not sure if i like these guys or not, but there are 2 songs on their website you can listen to
i'm giving them a chance
amazing band.
Yes they are an amazing band! Saw them live at their first ever overseas show ;D And am attending their first headlining show overseas here in London in August ;D If anyone wants to join me by the way, I have a spare ticket, otherwise I'm going alone :(
Sorry to boast lol
what's so amazing about them? it's like Dredg (who I love) meets My Chemical Romance (who I despise). they're not bad, not at all. but I can't see what's so exciting about them.
just downloaded their album after reading this thread.
great, great stuff.
Circa Survive meets System Of A Down, that's how I describe em' to people anyway...
I downloaded the album and I'm starting to like it more after a few listens.
musical genius.
Just heard about this band literally yesterday. I enjoy them a lot, they sound a lot like Three, or 3, whatever the band prefers.
Well, now that I think about it, this bands sounds even more like Opus Dai or Rishloo. Which is not a bad thing at all.
just found out that they are going to open for 'dir ein grey' august 8th in copenhagen.
FUCK, this is fucking gay. i'd love to see this band live, but there's no way i'd ever pay to see a band like fucking dir ein grey.
bummer :(
How lame is the name Serjical?
'a wolf descends upon the spanish sahara' is such an AMAZING song.

it's my favorite, along with Vice/Versa.
i've literally had this album, fables of a mayfly, on repeat for the last couple of days.
not one single weak song.
awesome, awesome album.
I had such a period when I first downloaded it. I played it for all of my friends over and over until everyone fell in love, haha.
inter.funda.stifle is a much better album IMO. I don't understand why they changed the ending of Walls of Jericho on Fables Of A Mayfly. The ending on inter.funda.stifle is so much better! A Seafer's Knot sounds a lot better on inter.funda.stifle too but Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes is an amazing song... Darroh has to have the best vocals in rock right now. And if you get a chance to, please watch this band play live!!!
could anyone upload their older albums?
Here is inter.funda.stifle but I can't remember if the quality is 128 or 192...

nice man, thanks alot.
it's 83mb, so i'm guessing it's 192kbps...
I've tried finding that album but with no luck. so thanks a lot!
there's a live version of Walls of Jericho on YouTube that sounds completely different from the version on the new album, except for like one line in the lyrics. is this the version on the old album?

it still sounds different. it's mostly the vocals and lyrics that seem different.
Quince, Abigail and Orphan Anthem '86 are some of the best songs they've made. the old versions of the other songs aren't really anything spectacular, though. except for The Seafarer's Knot - that one sounds great on Inter.Funda.Stifle.
a question regarding Vice/Versa though: is it really supposed to be the same version on both albums? seeing as how the rest of Fables From A Mayfly sound exactly like that in production I find it a bit odd.
FTM are doing their own headline show in London again in November. Fuck it, I'm gonna book some tickets, third time seeing them live !
they need to come to Sweden again. I didn't go last time seeing as how I didn't want to see them opening for Dir En Grey.
btw, I downloaded the first album last night.... it's pretty bad.
i have yet to see them live, heard amazing things about them. also heard they made a mark at coachella. =]
'fables of a mayfly' is one of the few albums i've heard where every single chorus is fucking mindblowing great!
this album might have to earn a spot in my top 10 favs.

Ah, alright, thanks for the Info man. I'm gonna go see them in Amsterdam on the November 25th and I'm wondering if they play some stuff from that album in their live shows nowadays....?

I would actually still love to hear this album, even though it would suck immensely. So if anyone would be nice enough to upload it, thanks!
So I saw Fair To Midland yesterday in Amsterdam, they opened for Serj Tankian in a pretty cool location at Melkveg.
Firstly, I gotta say that the singer has an amazing voice! Damn, even live he was able to hit all the notes and make it even better, well, at times he was spazzing out so much that I couldn really concentrate on the singing that much, fun to look at 8) Oh, and he was distorting his voice in a lot of songs by pushing his throat with his fist. The band played the new album all the way through, it was great.
The crowd was... well, not that much love for Fair To Midland, they seemed to be there to see Serj and Serj only. And about Serj, he was pretty alright, the new album sounded quite good live. But yeah, the crowd went wild for Serj, I kinda went quiet for Serj. It was nice to see him but Fair To Midland blew Serj and his whole band out of the water really.
But anywyas, it was fucking awesome to see this badn live!
Hey does anybody have the song,
"An Honest Conman"
There's a studio version of it. Can any of you help me?
sorry, haven't even heard of it.
I'm really hoping for a new album soon. they're probably still touring for the last one, but damnit I need new FTM. and they need to come back to Sweden, this time as the main act. I found them just when they were gonna play here but they were opening for Dir En Grey and I really didn't feel like buying a ticket for the opening act only.
Go to iTunes and preview the track its amazing. It is a b-side off "Fables From A Mayfly." I bought the album at FYE for 15 bucks over the summer and they expect me to pay on iTunes 10 bucks more for just one song? Thats highway robbery.

Haha I did this. They were supporting Johnny Panic at their first ever overseas gig here in London and I payed the money to watch them and then went home when they finished. It was well worth the 30 minutes

Thank you so much man.
hm, I noticed something interesting. I downloaded Fables From a Mayfly from here a long time ago and have been listening to it A LOT ever since. but when I downloaded it to my work computer last week I found another upload. and on this one there's another version of the song Vice/Versa. which I suspect is the actual final version supposed to be on the ablum, because on my old download I had the same version as on Inter.Funa.Stifle.
not that it really matters, but it feels weird having listened to that song so many times (in fact, it's my favorite song off of the album) and suddenly realizing it's not the "right" version. and considering I downloaded it from here I suspect that maybe someone else on here has got the same version as me.
in the end though, I like the old version of the song better. it sound more clean and less overproduced. it feels like they took a perfectly good song and tried to make it even better, which just couldn't be done.
I downloaded Fables from a Mayfly from different source and apparently half of its songs are from the earlier album.
Quote from: 4th Eye on Jun 15, 2008, 11:10 AM

yeah, most of the songs were already written and recorded on Inter.Funda.Stifle, but in different versions. the new versions are all better, except for Vice/Versa.
I also downloaded Inter.Funda.Stifle, just haven't had time to really listen to it yet but I need to get the real version of Fables from a Mayfly. Anyone willing to upload?
I thnk inter.funda.stifle is way better. Fables sounds imo, too processed and over produced...
some of the songs on inter.funda.stifle are among their best (vice/versa, orphan athem '86, abigail, quince) but there are a lot of songs that sound too demo-ish. from time to time his vocals even sound awful, like on Dance of The Manatee.
I can agree on that Fables From A Mayfly is on the verge of sounding too overproduced though. but the production fits their sound. I just hope they don't take it too far on their next album.
Bump!
Yeah I have been listening a lot to Fables lately and I am so stoked for their upcoming album. They have updated their official website and they have a twitter account now. Also I youtubed some stuff and came up with some new songs that sound downright heavy like on the first album. Rikki Tikki Tavi is my favorite so far.

omg, the new album is close? sweeet!
I checked out 3 or 4 new songs last night. and while the quality sucks and you only hear half of what's being played/sung, you can definitely tell it's gonna be fucking awesome. I likehow he screams more. and the music itself sounds true to their sound.
New song! http://www.myspace.com/fairtomidland
Great.
cool. it's been available for a while though. a couple of others on youtube as well.
can't fucking wait for the new album, I think it's gonna destroy Fables.
btw, I ordered one of the 1000 re-issues of Inter.Funda.Stifle :D

I say start with the latest record (Fable From A Mayfly), it's the best produced and easiest to get into. then move on the inter.funda.stifle which contains earlier versions of some of the songs from Fable plus a few other really amazing songs. personally I don't like their first album that much (The Carbon Copy Silver Lining), as it's pretty different from the later stuff and his voice isn't as amazing as it is nowadays. but if you really like the other stuff, you should take a listen and judge for yourself.

Edit: The album version of Rikki Tikki Tavi sounds a thousand times more awesome than on the demo. Love the extended screaming part and that his scream is much deeper here.
Rikki is still my favorite, after hearing all the new songs many times. that songs is just too awesome for words. and I like it even more when listening to the entire album. the transition from Short-Haired Tornado, through The Upset At Bailey Ridge and into Rikki is unbelievable.
other favorites are Uh-Oh, Loophole, Musical Chairs and Amarillo.

Got my physical release of the album today.

Hows the artwork in the liner notes? Still waiting on my cd.... PATIENTLY I might add.
Not much artwork.
Only a fold-out picture of the band.
Listened to the album 4 times today.
Favorites so far: Whiskey, Uh-Oh, Amarillo, Rikki, Golden Parachutes, The Greener Grass.
Not a single weak song, though.
Pretty flawless album.
here's Pour The Coal To 'Er, the b-side you get on iTunes and with the digipak:
Fair to Midland - Pour the Coal to 'er - Album version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQMT8XJn_gI#)
one of the best songs on the album imo.
WTF. Do you know if there's a code for that in the CD or something? I don't have it on me, but if there isn't something in the CD that gives you that song, I'll be pretty pissy... and then I'll steal it.
I actually have no idea. from my understanding it's on the iTunes version as the last song, and likewise on the digipak version you can order from Season of Mist. I ordered that one but have yet to receive it in the mail, so I really can't tell you more than that. I've looked around for a good rip but haven't found one yet.
btw, this release has been pretty chaotic it seems. a lot of people haven't received their Season of Mist pre-orders yet, and the label decided the last second not to press any vinyls for us who pre-ordered a bundle including a vinyl copy. cheap bastards. to add salt to the wound, the posters that were to come with the bundles weren't done in time and will be shipped later.
can't blame the band though. yet another label who likes to screw over bands and their fans.
Yeah, there isn't a code or anything in the CD case. That's pretty weak. I've been looking around too, but to no avail. I've got my buddy checking his private torrent site, he should get back to me soon.
I got the digipak from amazon.co.uk. Limited to first pressing, apparently.
The bonus track is on this release.
hook it up preez? :)
edit: der found it

was about to listen to the album from start to finish. but got no further than uh-oh.i'm stuck there having it on repeat. song's amazing with a tail. fuck
edit: but then i got through it. the replay button was my bitch there for a while.my favourite songs are uh oh, pur the coal to 'er and short haired tornado. great record over all.
amarillo sounds a lot like the band 16 horsepower in the verse.compare the vibe and vocals in amarillo to the song "ruthie lingle" or "black soul choir" for example.
when i listen to rikki tikki, it sounds like a system of a down song at times. especially from 1:20 - 2:20. that kills it a little for me. even heard a strokes riff in tornado i think, but maybe i've had too much coffee
I just found out my friends band is opening for Fair To Midland in New Orleans, thats fucking awesome. I'm not really a big fan of his band, very radio-rock, but I might have to go.
POLTERN KINDER - Drown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_9I5ZnzXBY#)
doesn't pour the coal to 'er sound a lot like dredg in the verse? (when dredg was good) i think so.
also,to use a girl choir reminds me of the beginning of the song pariah, although dredg's choir was by kids.
really great song regardless
yeah, Pour The Coal always reminds me of Dredg. but in general, I kinda consider FTM to be what Dredg could've become. they have a lot of similarities, especially in the old days.
actually, I usually say that, for me, FTM has filled the hole Dredg left.
Fair To Midland - "Amarillo Sleeps On My Pillow" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SzeMRTqPeU#ws)
Fair To Midland - "A Loophole In Limbo" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zARZyp0GdIk#ws)
Fair To Midland - "Musical Chairs" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A49vK0YH8ds#ws)
Holy fucking shit.
This truly proves that Darroh is one of the best vocalists alive.
those are amazing. I especially like Amarillo, it works really well like this. makes it sound even more grunge than it already did.
and Darroh's on fucking top, man. I think I'm beginning to have gay feelings for him.
Yeah, Amarillo really stands out. His voice is unreal in that performance.
So yeah, not had internet in a while as have been moving into a new flat with my brother. But the new album has been on repeat non-stop for the past week now, really can't get enough of it
a loophole in limbo and bright bulbs were two tracks that really grew on me. the hits on this album are packed like sardines
Just read the 2K's out of 5K's review Kerrang gave it. They said they sound like Evanesence eurghh. Gaysss
i don't listen to evanesence so i wouldn't know... but even if the vibe should sound similar -2/5? really? that means that the song material is bad too. and we know that's not the case. oh well, just some guy's opinion
Kerrang? Lol who gives a shit what they think.
so first the bassist Jon left, to focus on his other band. now the drummer Brett left as well, apparantly under not-so-good circumstances. he talked about a sinking ship and legal matters, but no one really knows what the deal is.
they have a new bassist and drummer however, at least for the remainder of the US tour, and it sounds like they'll keep going as a band. one of the shows will be recorded for the upcoming live DVD.
I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end of the band, as I feel they're just getting started and haven't even reached their full potential yet. the official message did sound pretty positive though.
