I guess, there is no topic to QOTSA (only for Josh H.).So...
What do you think about the new album? And the whole band, actually?
I just listened to EV, and i was expecting something different, i really dont know why. I guess, the Era Vulgaris song made me imagine a different album.
IMO the record IS enough 'different' to be a unique experience, certainly more than the mess that was Lullabies.
I like it. It made me love QOTSA again.
i liked it, a little more mellow than i would have hoped for. sick sick sick is my fav.
hmm...it´s better than Lullabies, i guess. My fav are sick sick sick and 3´s and 7´s
It's good, I would have hoped for a lot more still from QOTSA, they still haven't top SFTD then...
Maybe they need Nick Olveri back, Lullabies may have been a mess but at least it had tunes like Burn The Witch, Little Sister, I Never Came, Medication. On this album I really like 3s & 7s but Sick Sick Sick is mediocre as a single, it really needs to grow on me. Is this leak I'm listening to the very shit unmastered copy or something?
Haven't heard it yet, but I finally purchased Songs For The Deaf a few weeks ago. The band will never be that good again.
Fixing to download EV though, can't wait to hear it.
did you see them play bloody black fuckin sabbath mates? ah yes mates! drinkin a fuckin crate of ale to that one you blood englishmen, ill drink you under the table.
But no i thought they did a horrible cover, only because, they just had to pick paranoid to cover. That aint right anymore.

yeah man, burn the witch is in my opinion the best songs they've ever done. it has such a dark creepy feel to it. i love it.
The best album, is for sure SFTD. But in Lullabies my fav is Someone´s in the wolf and everybody knows that you are insane.
In era vulgaris, i was expecting a "cleaner" album. I mean, Era vulgaris is a huge song...but the other ones are very noisy...much more than before,i guess. But i am sure this album will grow on me.
My leak is 320kb..that´s good
I still dont understan why Era Vulgaris, the song, didn´t male the album. Trent is huge on that song.
...
they have talent...and art...
and Josh H. has some great lyrics in all records

only a few a weeks ago. holding out for it? ive had that one for about 2 years or so and i agree that they will never be that good, coz Lullubies really put me off them, and if EV isnt as good as sftd, i dont think i should bother.
yeah, what happened to them?
the new album is really growing on me. the more i listen to it the more i like it.
What do you think about the new album?
it sounds really good. I am going to this festival next week, and the queens and the blood brothers are playing at the same time.
s-s-s-s-s-sticky situation
I'm gonna have to listen through this one a few times, so far i'm not diggin' it.
at the first listen i didn´t like it. now, it´s really good. It´s QOTSA for real! And i love Era vulgaris, Trent with Josh...such a great collaboration!
i've been so fucking hooked on these guys for the last couple of months.
i was never really a big fan, but damn, it has just clicked suddenly.

No, no, no! I think the same!
i love the sound of it. really thick and crunchy.
definitely a HUGE improvement from Lullabies To Paralyze.
QOTSA have, over the past 6 months or so, definitely become one of my favorite bands of all time. I think it's because I started listening to them alot more once I started playing drums, but S/T, R, and Songs for the Deaf are all amazing 5-star albums. Lullabies has got a few really good tracks as well as some of their worst, and the new cd is weird, in a positive way. I LOVE QUEENS.

i was listening to the first album today. srsly, it might be one of the best rock records ever. hook after hook, riff after riff. awesome

im listening to lullabies to paralyze right now. what a kick ass album. obviously not as good as songs for the deaf, but still a solid record. definitely better produced than era vulgaris. i loathe that compression has ruined music
i def. think lullabies is their weakest album.
i LOVE era vulgaris.
songs for the deaf
era vulgaris
rated r
s/t
lullabies
that'd my ranking.
for me its
s/t
songs for the deaf
era vulgaris
rated r
lullabies
and i cant forget the desert sessions, its like five more QOSTA records. I listened to lullabies and era today and i really noticed the difference in production. that compression thing is really annoying. i'm starting to pick up on it more and more. i mean the drums on era are the same volume as the guitars which are the same volume as the vocals
Songs for the deaf
Rated R
Era vulgaris
LL to paralyze
s/t
wow, you guys rated the s/t low. I thought that record kicked a lot of ass. riff after riff, hook after hook. ill admit its not as polished as their later albums but damn its good

I'd say it's their most listenable along with Rated R - it has No One Knows and Go With The Flow on which are 2 of their well known singles :]
I saw them in Manchester last December and they put on an awesome show, although I didn't enjoy being at the barrier cos I'm used to people in the crowd going into eachother rather than bouncing up and down and my hips got bashed about sooo much :P

Yup definitely Songs for the Deaf
It's a classic album - absolutely brilliant.
I would say it's their most listenable and most experimental.
It's an album you definitely have to own.Nick Olivieri's and Mark Lanegan's contributions make this album stand out for me.
Next I would listen to Rated R.
Their self titled album is also very good - you can hear it's their debut - it's a lot more raw.
I think Lullabies to Paralyse is very underrated - it's a great dark album.
Era Vulgaris is also good. It's quite different from their others. To me its a bit ahead of it's time and the song structures are very interesting.
Does anyone know when they're going to release a new album - it's been far too long!!!
I haven't really listened to Them Crooked Vultures - I thought the singles were a bit dull and it put me off a bit.
Does anyone have this album - is it worth giving it a proper try?
you're aware that you just replied to a two year old post?
I would recommend Them Crooked Vultures if you're a qotsa fan. And judging from your post, I guess you are. The album isn't anything revolutionary, but it's some pretty good rock n' roll.

Me too. It compensates the lack of different mixes of the original album and some more studio rework. It's a really cool pack.
BTW, did someone see the new booklet? Is it the same of the original or deluxe versions?
Note: As I see, Sharing Lungs has a lot of specific threads for cool bands. Nice work ^^

Agreed - it's been a long long time since Era Vulgaris.
Although I love the Queens, I find TCV a bit boring and lacking variety so it's not tiding me over at all.
I hope Mark Lanegan features on the new album - my favourite QOTSA album thus far is Songs for the Deaf. Lanegan's contributions on that album are the stuff of legend.
Queens of the Stone Age - Hangin' Tree (live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grw5AT5kq0c#)
Here's a very cool clip of Lanegan recording a cover of ZZ Top's ' Precious and Grace'.
This song should have made the album.

Mark Lanegan- Precious & Grace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zalt-yeCBDI#)
Agreed about TCV. They really aren't supplementing my need for new QOTSA.
Anyway, I was on the highway last night around midnight when this song randomly played on my ipod. It was bliss flying down the highway with the windows down, this blasting, and hardly anyone else out.

And yeah, I fucking love Lanegan's contributions to QotSA.
When is a new album coming?????
We've been promised one for ages, still there's not even any news whether they're in the studio or anything plus their website has remained unchanged forever.
It's been a long time since 2007's Era Vulgaris!!!!
I get the feeling Josh Homme has sidetracked QOTSA, devoting much more of his attention to Them Crooked Vultures, which is a real pity as I think QOTSA is the much better band.
Especially when Lanegan is part of the proceedings!
QOTSA was actually supposed to be more Lanegan's band when it formed, then they had the idea to alternate vocals like they did in Songs for the Deaf, however it's ended up being Josh's band with him taking the role of lead vocalist.
I do enjoy the songs he sings on, although he's not the greatest singer but I much preferred it when we had the variety that Songs for the Deaf provided!
New album coming in 2013. Joey Castillo has left the band and Dave Grohl is back. Absolutely insane news. Bittersweet though, as I really liked Joey.
Apparently Trent Reznor is contributing to this album as well. Not the first person i would expect to work with qotsa. Stoked for some new music though!

Yeah, Joey was an awesome drummer indeed.
I'm guessing Grohl is just filling in again like he did on Songs for the Deaf. He is, though, a badass drummer too.
Dream line up would be achieved if Nick O. came back. Don't think that will happen quite yet, although I've heard that him and Josh Homme are on (somewhat) good terms again.
I'm not surprised given that the Foo Fighters are on hiatus now. I'm always happy to see that man behind a kit. Still curious as to why Joey left but not digging up much on that at the moment.

Just watched it, how unexpected was that. I wouldn't have guessed Elton John as a collaborator on the album if you gave me 10 000 tries.
The fact that supposedly it won't be a ballad just has me crazy excited at what it could possibly sound like.

I too love Suture Up Your Future. It's such a great song! I even made an AMV for it.

Very, very, underwhelming.
i thought so too unfortunately. Maybe i had too high hopes for this. So far "My god is the sun" is the only one i'm super into. The rest are good too i guess, just like you said very underwhelming.
for real? I'm very into I Appear Missing
Yeah, i guess it's pretty good, the last 20 seconds make me jizz.
yeah I'm happy with what I've heard. I Appear Missing is amazing.
My God Is The Sun didn't hit me, but I Appear Missing hit me hard! also the video is great.

cool. kalopsia is a lot longer than what we've heard
Ok, after having listened all the way through twice now, this offering is nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be.
BUT, I feel like its going to die in the arse pretty quickly for me, much like Vulgaris did.
Oliveri gave Queens their edge, and he's been sorely missed since being given the arse.
Fucking Kalopsia man!
I Appear Missing is one of greatest songs this band has written. Fucking amazing.

I was so happy to hear Kalopsia and I Appear Missing had longer versions on the album. The Elton John song, Fairweather Friends, is awesome as well, even if I couldn't really tell it was John upon first listen. I'm already loving this entire album a lot more than Era Vulgaris.
Man...Like Clockwork is strangely hypnotic. Quite addicted to it. It also seems like their most coherent work to date. Digging the shit out of it!
Album is lame. Can't really remember anything from it and don't really have any interest in listening to it again. But that's no surprise since this band is nothing special.
clean out your ears man. this album is great.
if they are "nothing special" why bother with it in the first place?
I kind of liked Songs for the Deaf and Lullabies to Paralyze so was curious. Didn't expect much though and didn't get much.
As far as modern rock/hard rock goes, QOtSA is at the top of the food chain.

Agreed completely, for pure rock it's all about QOTSA.
I'm a big fan of Foo Fighters, particularly for TCATS, S/T, TINLTL, but I have to agree they are running a bit generic and bland these days compared to some of the stuff they've released. However, they will always be better than QOTSA.
We'll have to agree to disagree i guess. But i sure do disagree, not even close in my opinion. I think i made this same comment in the foo fighters thread, but for me foo fighters is like a perfect gateway band into rock music in the way that their music can appeal to little bieber kids and still sound pretty rocking, and while the queens probably work the same way for many (they certainly did for me) they have a more challenging sound and aren't afraid to break the mold. Actually i kinda hope Foo Fighters would experiment more, they're too comfortable.
I agree with some of what you're saying about FF being too comfortable at times and lacking experimentation but I just have to say something. As far as being rocking goes, QOTSA could only dream of being as rocking as TCATS. That album owns anything they've done, in terms of quality and rocking. That album is the definition of alternative rock to me. QOTSA may experiment more but their experimentation doesn't do much for me. And, Bieber kids? You must be kidding.
the bieber kids comment wasn't supposed to be an insult man, that's just how broad they're fan base is. You won't be able to find a person who doesn't like everlong, and if they say they don't they're lying. Again we''ll have to say that our understandings of something rocking differ quite a bit, it's a subjective thing i guess. But rocking to me is more than crash cymbals and distorted guitars (allthough it surely helps), and playing it safe definitely isn't rocking. I think no person should be able to honestly say that foo fighters rock more than the queens after hearing this bassline: Queens Of The Stone Age - Mexicola (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma2cpeJPICs#)
You're right, it's a subjective thing. Foo Fighters at their peak are just more intense to me. As far as alternative rock goes, TCATS rocks hard imo.

I must say, Like Clockwork is for me the weakest album made by them... EVER.
It has some good songs, but Era Vulgaris was way better than this, without mentioning the other albums that are some serious good stuff.
Too bad they came to Mexico 2 times in the last years and couldn't get to see them live :(
Pfft.
Like Clockwork is perfect.
Just put Songs For The Deaf on my Ipod. Made me remember how much I fucking love that album . Also takes me back to how I really got into the band .... When I played Jak X : Combat Racing and they used the songs " Millionaire " and " A Song For The Deaf " for the intro cutscene xD

Actually, yeah, I usually listen to hip hop when I'm tokin' up... It really depends on the type of high, though , I guess.
Heeey, c'mon, that album's got some great tracks. You can't convince me that " Smooth Sailing " is a bad song, lol. The music video for it is great , too.
The best/top high = hip hop
I don't like it, though.

A new QOTSA album is something to be celebrated. But man the new song straight up blows. Josh's voice is fine, just ALL the music does not sound like QOTSA at all. Not catchy, just boring af.

I'm not crazy about it, but to my ears it sounds very much like qotsa. That guitar tone alone would give it away. I guess i see what you mean though. It's different for sure.
