im sure this is like the 3rd thread ive made on this band. but i feel that its my mission to help spread there name to fellow music lovers
thealbum. all is violent all is bright. speaks straight to my soul. it takes me to my happy and sad place
their newest album. far from refuge. is nothing like the first album. but yet its absolutely amazing in the same way
please check out this band if you havent
and if you had. post about how amazing they are. so i dont look like some cheeseball
do they have a myspace?
www.myspace.com/godisanastronaut
where is the song playing from? its looks like they dont have a "player" embed on their profile like almost all other bands to.
from this one song alone, one that starts playing automatically, they sound pretty good.
something to just relax too
there is a player. on the right hand side. scroll down a little bit
i believe u can play just about any of there songs on it...
i hope you enjoy it
ahh the last.fm thing.
i didn't know thats where the music was coming from.
anyways, i checked them out on youtube and downloading some stuff via btjunkie
i liked that i've heard a lot.
i recommend this band to everyone as well
i also recommend them, they're great.. love 'em
I'm gonna see GIAA live in about one month. that live video of Radau is already superb, but how is an entire concert gonna be? I'm pumped.

i was meant to go see them last april but was sick! a friend went and said they were great but the sound in the venue was terrible!
nice music.

Far From Refuge is quite a dissapointing album IMO. I've read so many good things about it but when I came to listen to it, it just didn't really do anything for me. I have a day off from work today so I'm gonna have a listen to All Is Violent proper...

Far From Refuge is my favorite album of theirs. The others just don't really affect me as much.
Are they ever gonna tour the states?
i know they are going back to europe now to round up the tour. so u either missed it. or they went nowhere near where you live. i dont think they did a lot of dates over here.
i can't wait until they release another album. and they already released one this year.
the end of "radau". the first song on "far from refuge" is fucking AMAZING
man do i love this album
Radau is just a great opening song period.

i remember paying 25euros for Far's Water and Solution. it's much money for a cd. still no regrets, though.

most people didn't seem to care much about them, which was good for me so I was able to stand in the first row and have a lot of space around me.
they played a good mix of All Is Violent.. and Far From Refuge material.
the heavy parts were a lot heavier live, and they also did some jamming.. which was surprising, but interesting to hear.
I don't really know what else to say, to be honest. words can't describe what I've been through in the 60minutes GIAA have been on stage. I was standing there, smoking some weed and having the time of my life. then the lights went on, and I knew that it was over. I didn't want them to leave the stage anytime.

best fucking post-rock band ever. they never disappoint.
the new album felt a bit boring to me :(
far from refuge stays my favorite GIAA album..... by now
nice work at reviving this thread. the new album rulz.
i just downloaded a couple of their albums (thanks again bright lights) and honestly its a little slow. its really good, but not really my style.
i'm more into math rock. errbody should check out Sleeping People- Growing. they are an amazing math rock/instrumental band. i've been listening to alot for about a year now. its rare when an album never gets old for me.

nice new album.
I was absolutely astonished with the Shadows' outro... the whole noise thing. amazing.

i must admit. ive been checking out a lot of there live stuff online. and the videos that they play in the background while they perform are truely amazing
i think my favorite is one i saw for fragile.
GIAA is playing. and behind them it is george bush speaking very slowly. and printed on the bottom of the screen is what he is saying. when bush says. "we will put our faith in a loving god" they start flashing to all these scenes of airstrikes and people being murdered in the iraq war.. its astonishing how awesome they are
this new album is probably my second favorite giaa album (right behind far from refuge). amazing stuff.
i cant believe u guys like far from refuge more than all is violent all is bright. and the end of the beginning
far from refuge is good. but its not as good as the others if u ask me

Best fucking show I have ever been to.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
dude. what the fuck is with the release date of the album
no site knows when the new album is coming out. and its driving me nuts
does anybody know the release date of the actual cd?
January '09.
i've been listening to their most recent album, i normally don't dig post rock, but this i can enjoy.
what the hell is up with the new album. i dont know when its being released and im getting aggravated..
however. i did at least. order the end of the beginning. i was asking the guy at a local record store when the store would be releasing the new album. but he said the computer had no info about it... so i just ended up ordering the end of the beginning. i was gonna order all is violent all is bright as well. but it was going to be like 40 bucks since it was an import..
anyway.. if anybody knows when the physical release of the new GIAA album is gonna be. please let me know.
well according to cdnow.com the cd has already been released in december.. but about a week earlier i checked the site and it said that the release date was cancelled. my brain is going to explode. i just want the new album.
man I don't know how you're still holding off not just downloading it....
Have you ordered the CD from CCNow.com?
http://www.superadmusic.com/god/store.html
well. 2 days ago i finally listened to the album..
on first listen i wasnt blown away or anything. but i did enjoy it..on second listen is when it really clicked..
what an awesome band.. the album is just so perfect from beginning to end
im sure im going to come to appreciate it even more with time
awesome! i gotta listen to it again now.
i am going to see them live in april (finally). cant wait.
I'm gonna see them twice in Cologne and 's-Hertogenbosch. great about that, I've seen GIAA for the 1st time in 's-Hertogenbosch two years ago, and now they're coming back and also play that show with This Will Destroy You.

considering they are my favorite band. i cant wait
Wow, another album? Sweeeet.
my nads are pumped.
when is it out?
yeah definitely pumped by this news ;D
the band just officially released the first single from their new album " age of the fifth sun "
the name of the single is ' In The Fading Distance"
The Song is available on youtube for listen.. but you can download it for one dollar at www.godisanastronaut.com (http://www.godisanastronaut.com).. so i hope you guys will support them and spend the dollar..
i must admit. i am listening to the song right now for the first time, and you cant tell they are taking their music in another direction again.. kind of like how they did on the album far from refuge... anyway. so far it sounds very sad, but with an uplifting feel to it.. i like it
here is a link to watch an awesome live video of the song

End of the Beginning is my current favorite. but ask me again in a month and it could be different. love this band.

yea man im pretty much the same way. i dig all of their shit. I hope they tour the US for their new album
their albums are kind of like how radiohead or tool albums are for me.. i love them all the same but 4 different reasons
all is violent, all is bright. is the album that made me connect with the band, i share some of my deepest memories with that album
the end of the beginning is my favorite album musically, like if i were on a ride with friends and wanted to show off GIAA's music, this is the album i would play
far from refuge is their saddest album in my opinion, they just sound like they made the album when they were really far from home
the newest album is absolutely incredible. it reminds me of all is violent all is bright but on steroids, lol
god is an astronaut really are the best band going right now
I really like this band but I haven't taken the time to really get into them yet.

what do u guys thinks of the album. and im hoping most of you guys buy it, they can use the money
Did you buy any of their albums?
i've had nothing but problems when trying to buy their records in the past. i had to go to my local record store to have the albums ordered, and then they got back to me a week later and said that they couldnt get the albums in, which was stupid..
so basically the internet was my way of getting their music, and yes i have. the reason i didnt use the internet in the first place is because i dont have a credit card, and my mom doesnt like me using hers over the internet. so i was beat for a while..
i do need to order this album however now that you said something. thanks for the reminder
Why not just order them from Amazon?
I didn't wanna come across the wrong way, but if I get the recommendation to spend my money on something, I might just return the question. I bought a t-shirt and all their cd's at except the Self-titled and I'm going to see them live next week where I am going to buy Age Of The Fifth Sun, probably the vinyl.
i've been listening to age of the fifth sun for the last two days
so far, everytime GIAA release an album, i feel like they are going back to a previous album, and then adding to, or improving upon it.. for example. when i heard their self titled album, it felt like all is violent all is bright, but heavier and with even better production (if thats even possible)..
anyway. age of the fifth sun reminds me ALOT of far from refuge. it def. a darker album with alot of piano being used.. its also a fairly short album even though it features some of the bands longest tracks... just the way the album flows from beginning to end it reminds me alot of far from refuge, which is a good thing
the album isnt the type of music that should blow you away on first listen.. instead it seems to keep you intrigued just enough so that you can listen to the album in full without feeling like your bored.. it def has the same dark feel as far from refuge, and i like that..
this album seems like its the one that will only get better with time. and so far, i already love it. this album will definetely keep GIAA my favorite band for a few more years
Dates were announced for their North American headlining tour.... For me this information is rather useless, but maybe some of you will go nuts now.
Aug 4 – Cambridge, MA – Middle East Downstairs
Aug 5 – New York, NY – Bowery Ballroom
Aug 6 – Philadelphia, PA – Jonny Brenda's
Aug 8 – Toronto, ON – Lee's Palace
Aug 10 – Detroit, MI – TBA

Aug 16 – Seattle, WA – Nectar Lounge
Aug 17 – Portland, OR – Dante's
Aug 20 – San Francisco, CA – Bottom of the Hill
Aug 21 – West Hollywood, CA – Troubadour
i saw them in philadelphia 2 weeks back, at a place called johnny brenda's.
the show was incredible. it was a small venue, so it was cool to pretty cool to have the band playing right in front of you. they played for about an hour and the setlist was good. i really enjoyed myself, and i got to speak with torsten for a few minutes after the show. i pretty much just thanked him for the band's music, since their music pretty much changed my life, and completely changed my taste in music.
the songs that they play from all is violent, all is bright, sounded amazing, i havent listened to that album in quite some time, so to hear it live, was a rush of different emotions. really awesome show.. you can watch the entire show on youtube. i was also thrilled that they played forever lost. torsten said before they played it, thats its one of his personal favorite songs, as its one of mine as well.

Dudes. :-(
GIAA is coming to Lithuania, and their management asked us (my old band, 'slowattack'), to play before them. And we can't because we don't really have the shape that we used to. After saying "sorry, no", they asked if we can play before MONO. I said. "Sorry, no". FML
Just get back in the shape you used to have?
a month and a half is not enough..
Still it must be a nice compliment when someone offers you to do support duty for those bands...
What up with dem plans to move to Stockholm anyways? (off-topic, i know )

well. to be fair, everything stands on my bfs education. and right now it seems that he might stay for 6 more years in this country to study radiology.. so... who the fuck knows, really. :-)
Indeed, wished I was always sticking to my plans ^^
But anywhere is good. I always wanted to get out of my city, I was so sick of it. Always the same streets, the same people. And when I moved to another town for a new job, all I wanted was to move back.
and while I am here, good idea to listen to some GIAA again.
I'm going to GIAA show in November, Can't wait, I hope there will be some cool bands to open for them too.

and while I am here, good idea to listen to some GIAA again.
lets waste this thread a little more,
so did you move back to the original town? I fear that this will happen after I move somewhere else :-)
We're ruining it big time ^^
About moving away, gladly not everyone is the same. For a creative guy like you Stockholm should be a good place to be. But who knows really? There's only one way to find out, after all.
So I lived in Hamburg, Germany for a year.
My best mate's brother lives in Hamburg, so thanks to him I met some cool folks, went out on weekends etc., so its not like every day after work I would be sitting alone in my apartment eating packet soup and thinking about home. This was a great and surely a livable city, but not home to me.
My then-girlfriend also annoyed me to death with her opportunistic bullshit all the time, so I couldn't talk about it with her. I missed my family and the town I was so sick of all those years, my hometown.
I fulfilled my one year contract, then lived at my Mum's place for a few months and got my own place afterwards.
I don't regret anything as this year was a good experience.
Took me long to accept that I was depressed, as well. So ever since I try to be more honest with myself. In the past when I was depressed, I would have gone for a run or to the gym, because I felt like if I am strong, problems will go away, and now I know its inevitable to deal with them. and if something has to be changed, and even if its a radical step, it has to happen for my own sake.
weirdest post in my years on Sharing Lungs. Cheers to all, I'm gonna have a nice cold Quilmes now and watch football!
no worries dude, life is life, life is change :-)
so true.... anyways, you should go to their show! GIAA live is some nice experience, and even better combined with a little weed.. ;)
I am planning to :-)
