I had to make this thread because I just heard AFI's cover of Head Like A Hole. I was disgusted! A insultingly shit version anyway, but that Davey Havok guy sings so fucking soulessly. I've not really paid much attention to them but from what I've seen they are utter wank.

two very good albums. Just great. Art of Drowing is also not bad.
Their earlie stuff is too punk'ish for me, and i must say rather banal music.
And Decemberunderground is... too MTV'ish. Just pop album. But not disappointment anyway.

Agreed. I still listen to Sing the Sorrow pretty frequently, and I like their old stuff. AFI used to be good and definitely more tolerable than what they're like now... before Davey started fighting with glitter. But I'd still do him.

They may not be your taste, but I don't think they should be lumped in with these manufactured, unoriginal bands you hear on the radio now-a-days. DMB came out doing something different and have always stayed true to their style. They're also very talented musicians, not cry-babies with an addiction to eye-liner.

I didn't mean to give the impression that everything in my post was supposed to be emo. I know what DMB sounds like, and to me, its needle in my brain every time I hear it; like you're being anal raped and this is supposed to mellow you out during it.
I will also join in on the U2 hate. Yeah Bono's a good guy, but they're are not the best rock band on the planet. I mean, they make lame pop rock! maybe its just cuz they're from a different era...I hate the 80's if that factors into any of this...

I have found that he is extremely talented in the singing dept. But.......well............not so much in the music dept. I mean it takes a few min to get used to his voice. But once you do he actually has a really powerful voice and can hit some crazy notes. But their music.......just sucks.

that's definitely not one of Patton's brightest moments and even though I'm a really big Patton fan I don't like that stuff very much. but when someone makes so much music and explores so many different aspects of music as he does, of course not everything will end up great. I just decide not to listen to it and concentrate on all the genius stuff he's done instead. like the DEP ep, Faith No More, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and Mr Bungle.

Yeah. I've always found tool a little forced and mechanical. I thought I was the only one that wasn'y into them. I've seen them live 3 times and they are amzingly rib-shaking live...but they still don't do it for me.
but hate Tool is a bit over the top. You can at least appreaciate the musicianship, even if you think they're a little bit forced.
Zev, have you listened to Undertow? It's a good place to start. It took me ages to get into Tool, the 8-minute long songs etc, but once you start getting interested you get hooked let's say. But I definitely don't think they should be even discussed in the same realm as stuff already on this thread like Durst, Atreyu, et. al.
Tons of respect for Dave Grohl, but the Foo Fighters just don't do it for me. The first album that Dave recorded on his own was fairly decent, but everything else from there is bleh

Yea really. Max was the soul of that band - the man who sticked it all together. I mean they were all like a big family - Andreas, Paolo, Max and Igor - and without one of them Sepultura doesnt exist. Funny situation that you still think it's Sepultura, when Max and Igor have thier own band, and they were the core of Sep. It's like kicking Chino out of Deftones, then getting Scott Stapp (if i remember good it's that guy from Creed) for vocals and still calling the music they'd make 'Deftones'. Funny isn't it?

Dante XXI wasn't THAT boring, but for fucks sake It's not 'Sepultura'. The same thing was when Roger Waters left 'Pink Floyd' and Gilmour still wanted to make music under that name. Same thing with Ray Manzarek that didn't agree to Krieger and Densmore still play music under 'The Doors' name after Morrisons death. Read it again: Kick Steph and Chino out of Deftones - bring Stapp and Kroeger, and still try to call them 'Deftones'. When I hear Sepultura I see Max, Igor, Paolo and Andreas - not less, not more, nobody else. And I'm not surprised that Max afrer leaving the band was at state of war with Igor and the rest for still using the name Sep.
ps. And Max was the core not because he was the main vocalist, but because he created that band. It was his and Igor's child from the very beginning. From 84'. But you probably don't remeber it.
i do remember it and i also remember how sep was before andreas came in and started writing the riffs... and he's still doing that now
max is fine with soulfly and his other project. which sounds like a sepultura backlash without the same kick in it. and sep without a kick in it is nothing. rather have sep with something different going on (like... erm, i don't know... green maybe...?) than whatever max is doing now.

Yeah, I agree with you at this point - I listen to Soulfly but it tends to get fucking boring every new record, and the new cd will be no exception - similar constructed riffs, lyrics that are constructed uppon three words : war, hate, motherfucker etc. But I still like Max more than Green. The only song that I listen to with Green on vocals is Sepulnation.

I have to agree w/ you about Alice in Chains. I know that kilss some people. I just can't stand Layne Stanley's voice either and I don't know why. I've given Alice in Chains so many chances, tried to like them, tried to find something about them that appeals to me but it just doesn't happen.
I don't know how people can hate U2. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand any new U2. And by "new" I mean pretty much anything done in the last 15-20 years, lol. But their old stuff from the 80's is fantastic to me. Joshua Tree anyone?

Yea i tried really hard to like his stuff, and NOTHING HAPPENED. I've heard so many great things about him and his "genius", and i'm not fucking hearing it, and not for a lack of trying. I understand a lttle of it when listening to something like "epic", and considering when it came out. I have no problem with that song really, but how much of it is his doing? Mainly i really love that piano line with the distorted guitars behind it...was that his fucking idea? If people are going to demand reasons for not liking him from others, i say put your money where your mouth is and explain why. Seriously why and how is Mike Patton a genius. And "everyone says so" is not a valid reason.

Because he can basically tackle every genre of music and make something great out of it.
He is one of the most versatile vocalists alive and can do about anything with his voice; singing, crooning, falsetto, opera (listen to the end of Faith No More's Land of Sunshine), screaming, death growl, rap, beatboxing, etc. You name it.
And on top of that founded and runs Ipecac Records which, IMO, is one of the most interesting record labels (together with Hydrahead) today, spawning bands like; Bohren and Der Club of Gore, Isis, Melvins, Zu, The Locust, Desert Sessions, etc.
So yeah, he's without a doubt a musical genius.

Not really aimed at any band in particular, but more aimed at the local scene of where I live. Every band is seriously hardcore, and no, I don't mean cool hardcore punk like Bad Brains or Black Flag. It's all just breakdowns, a couple two-step rhythm's, and some dude screaming. Now, I don't completely hate this kind of music, but it's retarded when you go to a gig and every band does the same thing. We counted 7 breakdowns in one song for one of the bands, no creativity at all.
The mosh pits are retarded as well. Even if I wanted to go inside the venue and watch the band I couldn't because there's a big chance I'll get hit by some hardcore douche "throwing down" and doing fly kicks or whatever and FUCK THAT. I hope this isn't the big thing world wide...

I kinda agree. Aenima and Lateralus are great albums, but Maynard is definitely the reason why I can't listen to Tool in a longer period of time.

- Blessed By a Broken Heart: I tried giving this band a go when I was going through a bit of a Metalcore phase, looking back, they're terrible. I find it hard to take any band seriously who's heavily influenced by glam...
- Clawfinger: I'll admit it, I listen to quite a few 'rapcore' bands, but this band is average in all departments.
- Nickelback: I'm sure someone, if not everyone has said what needs to be said about this band.

I know the premise of math rock is to be as long winded and complex as possible but some bands use it to disguise the fact that they don't know how to come up with a good idea and stick to it. The albums feel quite shallow, it's kind of throw away disposable stuff.

Paramore are terrible, I don't think they'd be half as popular if the majority of their fan base didn't want to bang their vocalist (both male and female).

Fuck Offspring, they are the worst most talentless band that makes music that sounds like someone taking a shit. I can't stand Offspring. Also agree with the other people who said Nickelback. they are so gay.

(IMO) But my favorite Mudvayne song is definitely "World so Cold" I could listen to this song over and over and never get sick of it. Any other Mudvayne fans out there? "The End of all Things to Come" is Mudvayne's best album. (IMO)

i used to love mudvayne when i was younger. when i was on a lot of drugs i thought their first album was amazing. nowadays i've calmed down and it seems a bit silly. still there are some interesting lyrics on the first two albums (ld 50 more than that beginning of the start of the middle and furthermore of the end or the finish or whatever it was). i guess i can't completely hate on them as a couple of their songs i still find listenable for nostalgic value but i just grew out of it.
also dude is a legit good singer. i remember watching the peoria dvd all the time when i was in junior high and it was pretty impressive. plus their drummer and bass player are pretty tight. still it just doesn't separate itself from what was going on at the time and it's become dated.

I actually have to agree with your thoughts since they are quite observant. I feel the same way about Leitmotif and Pariah (nicely written about MCR style drama in the songs - so true), but I have to say, that CWA is still quite solid. The production value is very enjoyable; yes, the album is not ground-breaking but is well executed - and I could say more than two songs that I do enjoy quite a lot, so in my eyes CWA still earns a pretty good mark in my scale. El Cielo is wonderful. The new album is.. well, they were trying to be experimental (in a sense that "playing something fans will never expect"), but I just cannot enjoy the "light-heartedness" of the album and lack of essence. This is how the album seems for me.

actually, I just gave catch with arms a shirt spin and I agree. there are actually more than 2 good songs on it, so I retract my statement. dredg made 2 good records, of which 1 is a masterpiece.
the new record to me is painful to listen to. I seriously cannot get through a single song. I hate the sense of drama, the cheap 80s sounds and the overall lack of depth. also, I really despise the way Gavin sings. His singing got weak on CWA, but on this record, he is downright obnoxious.

It may be a masterpiece to some people. maybe they find the bleakness of it exciting, but I think it is a sign of their dwindling creativity. s/t pushes no boundaries, no buttons. it's just bleak and monotonous all the time. and it misses the key ingredience of what makes deftones great: sexuality.

Cain, sexuality is definitely not the only strength of Deftones. For me personally, s/t is great because it lacks the up-front sexuality but transmits hidden emotions like envy or richness of soul; it's a very mature record. The album itself has a wonderful static atmosphere and definitely has unique and mastered sound. But - to each his own. I don't expect you to suddenly love the album as much as do merely because of my arguments. Live and let live

Fuck mainstream rock/pop period. Every band sounds the same to me...like shit. Occasionally a good band comes along, but that's a rarity.
I heard Nickleback for the first time in a very long while yesterday.
There music was always bad but I can't believe the low that it's sunk too - it almost made me throw up!
They seemed to be well liked to start with with 'thi is how you remind me' which got stale very quickly.
Then they seemed to find a formula & repeat it over and over and over, only making it cheesier every time.
These guys are worse than Bieber for me.
They're just so blatantly in it for the money - they are the ultimate whores of the music world!!!!!
Who the fuck buys their albums? guys named Earl? - I have a picture in my mind of rednecks sitting round a campfire next to their trailer with a Bud in one hand, Nickleback blasting from a boombox.

I view Slipknot and Mudvayne as this... at least from my perspective and experience with people.
They were the bridge that helped a lot of people discover and like death metal.

slipknot • Iowa was a classik ,very dark album to me its the best shitt they got
I dunno, I like those albums too.. But Vol 3 was kinda like WP for Deftones. It was a real transformation of sound.

OUCH... one of my favorite bands is on there... Radiohead is phenominal. i'd flip the bird to bands like Nickelback (obviously), AFI, Fall Out Boy, Black Veil Brides (GOD KILL IT WITH ALL THE FIRE), BOTDF, Meshuggah, Kiss, Seether, all those "metalcore bands" (TDWP, ETF, BMTH...), Slipknot. I'll add more when I can think of em. Bands that I don't care for but will take over mainstream crap are bands like Opeth, Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Manson (who comes off as a bit of a poser)... among others.
