Who else loves this fucking band? I'm at work chilling to Planet of Ice, can't wait until they release some new stuff.
I love them!
Planet of Ice and Menos el Oso were a bit different from their earlier stuff, so I'm not that a fan of those albums.. In my opinion, They Make Beer Commercials Like This EP is the best thing they've ever written. And the first half (or a bit more) of Highly Refined Pirates.
Nonetheless - great band! Ah, songs like Lotus, Hey! is that a Ninja up There?, We are Not a Football Team.. epic, god damn epic!
great band, fo' sho!
my favorite album is "menos el oso". such an awesome summer/chill album.
GREAT THREAD!! i adore this band. Menos... and Planet of Ice are great
and i lost my virginity to Absinthe Party At The Fly Honey Warehouse, lolz
i love minus the bear. what did you guys think of the daytrotter sessions? i think they sound great acoustic.
i haven't heard those, i bet they'd be amazing acoustic. minus the bear is definitely a top 5 band for me. i think i love every single song i've ever heard by them. planet of ice, menos el oso, they make beer commercials like this, and highly refined pirates all tie in their amazingness to me. i've seen them live more than any other band, like 5 times, and i'm about to see them again in october. really fun to dance to when you're all fucked up.

haha props dude, that's a great song for it, hopefully it lasted longer than just that one song though!
I would so like to see them live.. :/

LOL ;D
anyone already got Minus the Bear's 'Acoustics EP'?
I sooooooooo want it
"ninja" is a great song. many good memories attached to this band.
my favorite piece of work by them is the "They Make Beer Commercials Like This" EP. after that I've seen them live in 2004, and they played 4 of 6 songs from the EP and 'Highly Refined Pirares' stuff. just wonderful. the two concerts last year didn't even come close to that, though I also appreciate the newer albums.
theyre definitely great live
highly refined is my favorite, but i agree about they make beer comm being awesome as well
planet of ice took forever to grow on me but now i think it might be their most talented
sweet i finally get to see these guys live.
november 16, henry fonda theatre, LA.
sweeet!
october 15th for me, day after my bday wooooooot. i'm gonna be drunk. and i get to go to florida afterwards.
I went to the record store yesterday with my sis just browsing and decided to pick this up having heard nothing from them. Really good band! I ended up buying Planet of Ice which I ended up liking a lot.
Awesome band. I had only heard Planet of Ice until last week. I'm going to see them tomorrow and I wanted to get more familiar with their other material. I really like Menos el Oso. and Highly Refined Pirates. Now I just have to check out their EP's. I was going to go to the show having only heard Planet of Ice but then I figured it would be more enjoyable if I were moderately familiar with more of their material. Should be awesome.
A few favorites:
Burying Luck
Pachuca Sunrise
Knights
Hooray
The Pig War
This Ain't A Surfin' Movie
Lotus
they fuckin ripped it last night, played a few new tunes, and 3 ones acoustic. pachuca sunrise is totally awesome acoustic. i was ridiculously high for it, and it was good. new stuff sounded very promising
oh and they played the pig war and i'm totally not down with rob's alien, which i hadn't seen live previously, and rocked my socks.

so would like to see them play this live :(
just got the acoustics ep from the d&r thread, and i'm already in love
hey,
I have a nice find
this is pre-Minus the Bear band, Sharks Keep Moving..
I see this as the good (pretty much no electronica) part of Minus the Bear
I found their self-titled album
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7MB7F4RB
which is just awesome.
I advise you to get it ASAP. it's mostly instrumental - as in MtB-ish instrumental.
supercool guitar work etc :)
I posted this in the bands to check out thread a few weeks ago, and yea it is pretty good.

iv found 3 folders of shark keeps moving. i downloaded them 2006 and im pretty sure, they are from here.
should i re-upload?
theyre named:
self-titled
deert strings and drifters
pause and clause
I'll put this in the download and request thread also, but:
could anybody upload Highly Refined Pirates and/or This is What I know About Being Gigantic?
Would greatly appreciate it, I'm really loving this band.
Man that new song sounds really good. I'm enjoying it.
totally. anyone know who the female singer is?
i'm like a minute into that new song and i'm feelin it SUPER hard
Yea the new song is great! Im really lookin forward to the new album.
it really is an awesome song
Amy Blaschke? I haven't heard the new song but she's given her voice to a couple MTB songs...
or Heather Duby
how about a rip, anyone?
Doesnt she also sing a song in Menos El Oso? I don't know i'll check the liner notes later, but this new song is seriously awesome.
Yeah Duby appeared on Menos El Oso, I think it is her
Goddamn, I keep coming back to their new song. It's so catchy, I seriously can't wait until the new album. Definitely my most played track this month.
I just listened to it once and did not care much, cause I don't want to spoil the fun of whole album.
I mean, this usually happens - I get a new single, overlisten to it to a phase when I cannot listen to it anymore.. and then the album comes out. Nope. I liked the song, but I'm holding my happiness for the album :)
You can definitely say I am over-listening to this single. :(
hey does anybody have houston we have uh oh? i've never heard that song
here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BX5UFHBB) you go boon.
anyone heard broken china yet? i have no fucking idea where to find that song.
guess i should've thought to try youtube, haha. this sounds awesome.
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TTOF6tp68E#)
this is broken china as well as into the mirror http://hotfile.com/dl/19121505/8783575/m_t_b_-_i_t_m_2009_alltimegreatesthits.blogspot.com.rar.html (http://hotfile.com/dl/19121505/8783575/m_t_b_-_i_t_m_2009_alltimegreatesthits.blogspot.com.rar.html)
it's alright, but Into the Mirror is just tits. I'm in love with that song
I love both songs, such a great band.....so no release date yet.. right?
I was always afraid they'd sell out somewhy, but now I see they're heading towards an interesting direction - they became somewhat simplier yet still good.
well, of course nothing beats Beer Commercials for me

i'm with you on the titsness of into the mirror, i'm just pumped to have more than one song to over listen to before the new cd comes out haha.
The new album cover:

I really really hope they go back to their older less electronic sound (think Lemurs and stuff like that).
I love the sound of their first EPs
Omni is out May 4. is it me or is like every single band coming out an album in the first half of 2010?
Good because some of my favorite bands are releasing stuff very soon. It all starts with DEP and I cannot wait.
They're streaming a new single called My Time here: http://www.spinner.ca/2010/03/03/minus-the-bear-my-time-song-premiere/ (http://www.spinner.ca/2010/03/03/minus-the-bear-my-time-song-premiere/)
It's a sexy, cute little number, I think.
2010 is sure as hell shaping up to be a great year! ;D
they seem to getting more and more electronic. not that that's bad, i've liked everything i've heard from this new album.
I'm not entirely sure I like what I hear so far :/
Yikes, I don't like that new song at all. Way too electronic.
Kind of a Passion Pit/ Friendly Fires vibe. Not that bad, but his voice doesn't really seem to fit with it.
I think the new song is great. Didn't like at much at first but now its becoming a really good song of theirs.
Yeah their new song is fucking great, so catchy.
i loved it the first time i heard it. i dont think its too electronic or too poppy or catchy or anything. its awesome

Sweeeeet.
Not digging this new offering all that much.
Have only listened to half so far but, I dunno, it sounds a bit... matchbox 20ish.
Am really hoping it's a grower.
im really not getting this...
agreed. my favorite song by far is Into the Mirror, which we heard about 6 months ago. the first track is a good opener, but i found myself getting bored with the album after that.
This cd is the fuckin tits so far, i've only listened through a couple times, but i'm diggin everything I've heard. The thief is an amazing song.
I'm also all about the longer songs

I'm also feeling the longer songs. Got to listen to it for the second time today and its pretty damn good. Maybe poppy at times, but the thief and secret country are great tracks.
I'm finally giving this a listen. I'm four songs in and it's fucking awesome so far.
Secret Country is a badaaaass song.
Edit: finished listening through it.
Grade A album! Really awesome stuff. Much better than Planet of Ice. Pretty much loved/liked all the songs.
9/10.
i'll pick this is back up soon. maybe i can learn to love it.
i know this is an old song but Houston we have uh oh is one of best songs ive ever heard....just perfect
yeah that is a great song, and there is no denying that their older material is phenominal. my problem with most of this new album is the new direction they are going. I was able to handle and enjoy Planet of Ice, but Omni is going to take at least half a dozen listens for me to get into it.
dont force it.
the music just doesnt have the same energy. it sounds lathargic and uninspired.
just boring imo

id like to think its still too early for a RIP
What? Seriously? Wow, I can't believe you guys really think it's THAT bad. I feel like the synth has always been a pretty prevalent, maybe not as much as Omni, but it's not like it's some brand new direction. I really like it so far, I kinda wish they would've incorporated China White somewhere, I love that song. If I have any complaints, it's that the overall feel of the album didn't really turn out the way I thought it would after hearing that song and Into the Mirror.

definitely feel you. i liked broken china a lot when it came out and thought into the mirror was ok but more or less a throwaway song for mtb. i liked my time when it came out. loved the catchyness and pop sensibilities and everything but i was really hoping that was just like the pop song of the album. i think i was really expecting something more like planet of ice. ive listened to it about 2 and a half times now and i just find myself becoming more and more disappointed.
Idk what u guys are talking about the album is sick. Im going to see them Friday in DC and im stoked. Never seen them before, head they put on a decent show.

I've always though their lyrics are cheesey to be honest.
All the songs are about drinkin and pulling chicks - don't mind general lyrics so much, but as a whole was very disappointed with the album.
Got one of my friends onto Planet of Ice - and she dug it. Showed her Omni, and she said "WTF, sounds like Matchbox 20"
Kinda ruined it for me right there.
I actually enjoyed the new songs live when I saw them a month ago...but yeah, the new album got old pretty quickly.

this band puts me in a good mood, loving this track
I'm really enjoying the new album more than Omni.
Meeeeeeeh.
Listened through it once but the experience just was not rewarding.
I am becoming old and stupid since I bitch about every single new decision any of old bands that I used to listen to makes.
Dear Minus The Bear, I am sorry but this is not working for me anymore.
But its not just you, its also me. We grew apart like an old couple. I didn't like Omni, but decided to stick with you for one last album, in hope that things would change. But nothing changed, I find this album just as boring.
Your concerts were fun and I will listen to your old stuff from time to time, so peace out
at least we all still have Highly Refined Pirates?
YES WE DO.
Also, 'They Make Beer Commercials Like This'.
