That would probably be because it is flesh. Just like ass holes are flesh.

I've got both my lobes stretched to an inch and I did notice that upto about 12mm my ears smelt pretty bad but they don't smell at all now.
What size are they? And what material is your jewellery? Organics like bone and horn, and also silicone and glass tend to stop them smelling :)
I plan to stretch in the near future. Where do I begin?
no offense, but I think stretched lobes look awful.
oh, and all of you who do it will regret it when your old and your ears are huge and hang down to your shoulders.
That's why I am not stretching past a 00.

Getting your ears pierced.
No shit, sherlock. I am already that far.
now whatever gauge you have, go out and by a pair of earrings the next size, and put them in. So if you have 14g, go buy 12g, then 10, then 8, then 6, then 4, then 2, then 0, then 00. Ta da! You will have big ass holes in your ears.

What size were they pierced at? Your best bet is to do what Variable said and just buy a 16ga or 14ga piece of jewellery and ease it in with some water-based lube. BCRs or septum retainers [the bullet looking ones] are best to use because the ends are rounded. Also stick to steel, titanium if you have a nickel allergy and glass for stretching and wait at least 4 weeks inbetween sizes :]

theres also this stuff called emu oil that u should put in the hole. Because sometimes when peoples holes heal, the ends up looking like a cats anus.

That's due to stretching too fast :)
When you stretch a piercing you create micro-tears in the fistula [the skin tube if you will... the actual piercing] which heal up. If you stretch too fast they turn into actual tears and you get scar tissue build up, hence the cat arse :P Oils like vitamin E, emu oil and bio oil can help break the scar tissue down.
I was an idiot when I started stretching 4 years ago and went from like 1.2mm to 6mm in the space of 2 weeks. Thankfully my lobes are really healthy though they do look pretty cat bummy when I leave my tunnels out for more than a few hours :P

yeah, that's easy to say. first of all, you gotta be really old and sick to start worrying about pissing your pants. and by that point, nothing really matter anymore at all, you're just waiting out the inevitable at a hospital bed or something.
what about when you're 40 and have a job where you occasionally have to dress up in a suit and attend meetings with other people in suits? that's not a likely scenario for most people who stretch their lobes, but it's just an example. you catch my drift.
tattoos is one thing, I have nothing against them. you can hide them unless they're in your face or something. and other piercings are usually no problem either because the holes are small and if you decide to take them out you might end up with a tiny scar at most. stretch your lobes like that and you're gonna walk around with big holes in your ears that you can't hide for the rest of your life.
Yea I know where you're coming from totally, was just joking :)
I'm going back to studying audio engineering early next year, and then possibly going on to do music video procduction... either way I hope to get work in a studio and/or work doing the video stuff so in my case my appearance isn't really important. I also trained as a body piercer for 14 months and there's a possibility I might have some work in that field to do in the near [-ish] future.
On the other hand though, I only turn 20 in about 4 months so I'm still young and there's always the chance I could completely change my mind about things, even though at this moment in time I like to think I have my life career-wise sorted out :)
Though, I'm not against anyone modifying their bodies but it does seem pretty weird when I go to shows for example and I see like 15 year old kids with inch+ lobes and shitty tattoos all over their forearms :/
Hey battle axe. Do you know any at home remedies for nipple piercings that have been blown out?

I agree...it's eek
I thought that they eventually closed up?
They will shrink but not close up completely.... I should say depending on person, and how long the ears were gauged for.
and size too I'm sure.
I will suture up your ear holes for $100.00
I have two stretchings in each ear, 16mm and 10mm. I have had them for around 7 years and they only smell if you don't clean them properly. I always remove mine and clean them when I wash my hair. Up to 20mm, you can take them out and they will shrink back to normal and you will probably have a 2mm hole which is easily disguise with a stud or hoop.

You been stretching them or something? If so I would downsize a gauge or 2 [depending how big they are] and massage them with like vitamin E or emu oil or something similar once a day and see if that helps :)
And as for them closing up it really depends on the person on how quick they were stretched and the elasticity of the person's lobes. I've left mine out for upto 4 days at a time [when it's cold outside, helps with blood circulation] and they don't really tighten up much at all. But they do look pretty small when I have no jewellery so I reckon they would shrink a lot if I ever decided I didn't want em.
I took them out about two years ago. I still have blowouts. I had them up to a 10g ( thats obviously what caused the problem. ) so I dont know. after two years, I think im passed the normal period where they might return to normal on their own.

Ahhh alrighty, I take it they were just pierced at 14ga then and you stretched up from there? Usually if blowouts heal then then they need to be scalpelled off I'm afraid :/ Do you have a photo?
How much would something like this cost? The piercing of the ears and all. I'm just curious.

Earlobe piercing isn't usually as expensive as other piercings... Expect it to be about £10 - £15 for one, and about £20 ish for both. I'm talking piercing with needles and quality jewellery here, not guns cos you can't fully sterilise a gun, the method of piercing is awful and the jewellery is always shit.
Variable, that looks pretty normal for a male nipple piercing cos you tend to pierce a couple mm deeper [into the areola] cos guys generally have smaller nips than girls. It doesn't actually look blown out from the photo - it's just cos of it being pierced deeper the tissue has kinda healed raised if that makes sense...? And my mentor was a twat and never really explained to me whether guy's nipples go back to normal after the piercings have been retired. But I pierced this guy I know who'd had his nipple done before and I couldn't even see the scars. So who knows? Best bet is to go to a reputable studio cos they'll be able to assess it properly :)

Why would you even bother? If you hadn't pointed it out, I would have never noticed. I mean... do what ya want. But seriously.. it's a nipple and it's not something that's seriously fucked up or disfigured.... Just sayin....

If you go by a body shop they should be able to tell
I will do this when I can afford new jewelry.
That is what is so expensive.
I didn't see anyone answer crazylegs question. So although I'm no expert , ill try.
From what I know the initial piercing is not bad. I mean, you can start with just a regular ear piercing for like 40 bucks. Or maybe go to a body shop and start at an 8g for like 60-80 with jewelry. But the expensive part is buying the new jewelry every time you need to move up in size. The material has a lot to do with it. There are things like allergies and carcinogens from plastic and stuff to take into consideration. So it all depends how big you are trying to go. I would say expect to dish out anywhere from $40.00 - $60.00 for new jewelry every time you go up in size.
I was hoping to be rather cheap up until I reach a size I like and then get some super nice glass plugs.
I dunno.
I think that like hot topic and places like it sell pretty cheap jewelry
Yeah, I'd rather pay a fuckload of money for nice jewelry than be cheap and give my money to that trashy fucking piece of shit store.
I stretched mine myself, I started off with an general ear piercing and cut a piece of cotton bud and then used make-up and paint brushes or anything with a tapered end. You can buy stretching tapers which are about £5 to do it yourself.

i did mine myself too, on a sunday, with a bottle of red wine to "dull" the pain.
i just had normal standard 'gun' piercings and i bought a couple of those stretching rings or tapers if u call it..
took about a an hour to do each ear and get the thing in far enough, which was about and inch into the ring, then i put the first tunnels in, then i stretched ithem again a few weeks ago to a 2g

Stretching doesn't and shouldn't hurt in the first place if it's done properly, so if people are needing anaesthetic they're doing it wrong :P

That's one thing a lot of people don't seem to have when it comes to stretching. A friend of my ex once lay down in a field and got someone to stamp on a 10mm taper through his ear when it was only about 2 or 3mm or so. My cousin also went and got his lobes pierced at a small gauge [1.6mm I think] at a studio opposide the one I used to work at [when I was there, too] and stretched them himself to 4mm that night. He text me like "I'm in so much pain and my ears are bleeding everywhere!" NO SHIT.

yeah thats pretty much the truth. but ive seen some harsh shit at piercing studio's . It seems the person who would do an ear stretch is only running a business coz ive watched people get their ears stretched to massive sizes within one appointment, and they leave with blood dripping off it. pretty insane.
the tribal method is obviously the best way, and the most natural.
some dudes get it pierced , and stretched to a big size on the first attempt...they dont 'get' the fact that, it takes time..months even to succesfully stretch their ear within a comfortable healing size.
Well, pierce and taper method is perfectly fine, for example piercing at 4mm and stretching to 5 or 6mm in the same session because there's no flstula [the actual piercing] to damage and it also helps stop any bleeding there might be. But obviously once the piercing has healed if you stretch too fast or skip gauges there IS a fistula to damage.
But yea, I've heard stories of piercers stretching people's ears far too fast and skipping gauges :( There's also a studio near me who when I rang to see if they could remove my microdermal cos it was rejecting [and I left on bad terms with my mentor so he couldn't do it] I was told to go down and they could just rip it out :o Uhh.. no thanks. Ended up buying a scalpel and a needle and doing it myself haha.
I hate ear tunnels

I plan to stretch in the near future. Where do I begin?
You start by piercing you ear normally.
Then you get a taper like this one ---> http://www.green-star.com.au/8mm-acrylic-taper-p-5.html But maybe a 2mm or 3mm rather than a 8mm to start with.
Then you slowly and carefully push it through!!
yeah the emphasis is to push it thtough SLOWLY...like you cant just ram it in..it takes about 30 min- 1hr per ear.
you have to manipulate it to get it in , and it does hurt a bit in case you are scared of pain..like thats what stretching is basically, its painful, but its within the threshold of agony.
It shouldn't be painful, you gotta use some lube when stretching to a larger gauge, it will go much more easily. I usually use a certain brand of soap to do it.
I started out slow and careful, then later on in the stretching process I got impatient with it and just started jamming them in.
If you thought it hurt when you were stretching, you're a fucking pussy.
Jamming them in didn't hurt.
I am now sitting comfortably at a 000.
On a related note, just got my septum pierced as a birthday present to myself. THAT hurt. Not the piercing itself, but waking up in the middle of the night because it got slightly bumped and then it throbs for awhile and you can't sleep because of it's throbbing.
