I don't know if surely maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot falls into this category, but they have some really good stuff.

So weird that you made this thread. i was just going to ask for somebody to upload that Sleepytime Gorilla Museum album. Can't wait to hear it! Thanks!

Check this out:

Murcof - The Versailles Sessions

Listen to it at high volume with lights shut. You will get creeped out. Really amazing music.

And no avant garde thread is right without these albums:

No avant-garde thread would be complete without SWANS

I recommend checking out these albums even though all of them are fantastic.

SWANS

'The great annihilator'
'Soundtracks for the blind'
'White light from the mouth of infinity'
'Love of life'

They were an amazing band.

M. Gira (singer/guitarist/genius SWANS) also has a project called Angels of Light - Check out 'New mother'.

Quotemaudlin of the Well is an American avant-garde progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts who formed in 1996 and disbanded in 2003, revived in 2008. Their music contained elements from many different genres including sludge metal, doom metal, indie rock, and new age. In late 2001, motW began working on a fourth studio album. During this time, the band lost longtime members, changed labels, and ultimately renamed themselves to Kayo Dot. This fourth motW album was released in 2003 as Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye. http://www.myspace.com/maudlinofthewell
