surprisingly, this is one of the few HBO shows I don't watch. Never even gave it a shot, so maybe I should. Big question though, is more like Twilight, or more violent like other vampire movies? Hell, or is it campy like Buffy?

Post by: lithium on May 19, 2009, 05:57 PM
it's funny, sexy, and straight up raw

it's directed by alan ball, where you a fan of six feet under?
Title: Re: True Blood
Post by: devilinside on May 19, 2009, 05:59 PM
It's pretty violent, and lots of sex. It's a more "true to vampire" show,as opposed to Twilight. (they cant go out in daylight, they have fangs) You should at least try it. My friend wasn't much into Twilight, but she's watched the first two episodes of this and likes it a lot.

Got my DVD's yesterday...good stuffs. I've read all the books associated with this show...and this next season should be a REALLY good one. (even though they don't follow the books exactly...hell...Tara isn't even in the first two books and she's WHITE and timid...LOL!)

*spoiler alert*

This was on Ask Ausiello today:

Question: Since you've seen the first four True Blood episodes of season 2, is there anything you can share? --SannaAusiello: They're bloody fangtastic! (Never. Gets. Old.) Seriously, season 2 -- premiering June 14 -- gets off to a thrilling, gory, scary, sexy, disgusting, funny, suspenseful start. Alan Ball would drive a wooden stake through my heart if I spoiled any of the big twists (i.e. my lips are sealed about the fate of a certain flamboyant vampire blood dealer), but here are a few juicy morsels to whet your appetite:

• There are three orgies, all of them powered by Maryann's (Michelle Forbes) aphrodisiac fairy dust.
• Alexander Skarsgard's Nordic vamp has an extremely homoerotic encounter with a character who shall remain nameless. In related news, there are about two dozen gratuitous shirtless shots in the first four episodes, all of them belonging to either Mechad Brooks (Tara's new BF, Eggs) or Ryan Kwanten (Jason).
• Sookie has a very revealing conversation with a new character in episode 4.
• If you're wondering what secret Merlotte's newest waitress (played by Ashley Jones) is harboring, a clue can be found on her skin.

I admit I got a bit teary. I really wish they would have kept Godric longer. Hell...they've kept Lafayette longer than they were supposed to. (based on the books he was supposed to be found dead in Andy's car not Ms Janette) But yeah...when Eric cried aaaaaaaaaaah! :(

No,they're called the Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka Sookie Stackhouse Novels). And let my tell you they are FABULOUS! The first book,Dead until Dark is almost word for word the same as the first season. I would suggest skipping it it you've already seen the whole season. Then next one,Living Dead in Dallas is kind of like this season, but they're adding soooo much more crap and twisting it around. But it's still good. There are 9 books total soo far,the last one came out in May I think? But yeah....you should read them. ;)

i finished season number one recently. And i must say it's VERY GODDAMN stylish tv show. Generally i do not like vampire them (exception for  moonlight, another good vampire show), but True Blood is something special.

What really amazes me is that story pays attention to A LOT OF characters, not like 4-5 are main and others are on the background. No, you see entire town there. Good plot (though final was rather "meh" but that's ok), good actors. Need to start season 2

Dude..the egg isn't even in the book!! It has me totally thrown off too. I know the series is based on the books, but dayum...they've gone way off the story line! haha  I guess the egg goes along with Maryanne's chicken hands?? We'll find out Sunday.
Title: Re: True Blood
Post by: devlin on Sep 10, 2009, 11:20 AM
damn. i know you said before that the show strayed from the books, but was hoing that was part of it. that was just so fucking random.

its seems like this season ran kinda slow at first and now they have to cram a bunch into the last couple episodes. only one episode left and a lot still has to be explained and resolved.
Title: Re: True Blood
Post by: devilinside on Sep 10, 2009, 12:27 PM
Yeah, there have been only a handful of episodes this season that I really liked, so Sunday better make up for the onesthat lagged.

It's either the third or fourth book when she kidnaps him. Yeah...the third. They will introduce a dude named Alcide,he's a werewolf, and from the description he's HAWT! But who knows who they would cast as him.

Title: Re: True Blood

Eeh....kinda yes and no. If they kept it based on the books,I think the series would be sooooo much better.
Title: Re: True Blood
Post by: devlin on Sep 18, 2009, 02:39 PM
is the whole sookie being more than just a mind reader thing in the books? if so, what is she? what is the power thing she did with her hand and how come she could block maryann's powers?
Title: Re: True Blood
Post by: devilinside on Sep 18, 2009, 03:01 PM
Well....in the last book, book 9,we find out her grandfather is a fairy, and she has fairy blood in her. That's why soo many people,in the books, find her desirable.  So I'm thinking the thing with Marianne was that. But again that doesn't come out till waay later.
Title: Re: True Blood

i guess they just threw that in there to give an ambiguous reason for why she wasn't effected by marianne

Hubby and I started w/ Season 1 last week. We just finished watching Season 3 Episode 5 last night. It's going to be tempting for me to not watch the rest of 'em today while he's at work, lol. NEITHER of us wanted to like this show OR get hooked, but I was killing time one afternoon last week and started watching and he ended up watching too when he got home and now we both are wondering what the hell we're going to watch when it's over, lol. We don't usu. watch much TV. I think Eric is HOT and hubby likes Lafayette, lol. I haven't read the books, but glad to hear they killed off Ms. Janette instead of him!

i haven't read any comments in this thread because i'm still up to episode nine.

i love franklin. he's so lovely. bear with me here...he's a bit of a fruitloop and i have a feeling i know what's going to happen to him but he brought a different type of sexy to the show.

BUT THE WHOLE SHOW IS FULL OF SEXY BITCHES, I SWEAR. IT'S KILLING ME FROM WANT.

I've catching this quietly watching this show here and there now since my cousin got the first couple seasons on dvd. Surprisingly, I'm not going to jerk off this show like I normally do to other TV series we talk about on this board. But I did jerk off to this show (whoa Jessica), amirite?

It was alright, I guess, nothing really special honestly. The writing is a little blah, and acting even shittier. The accents were god-awful. Even the effects are just a slight step up from Buffy 15 years ago. I'm sorry Kelly, I truly am. For the first time since watching a porno last week I found myself rooting for nudity within a minute of every episode this season. And it's not like Deadwood or Rome or Boardwalk where their nudity wasn't the focus of the show (it was the great writing, thrilling acting on top of the awesome violence and titties). It just flows naturally, as an afterthought. Basically what I'm saying is the only reason this turd stayed afloat in the toilet bowl that is my mind was the nudity, nothing else.

So, I tried at least with this series. It was ok for a summer show, only because nothing else is really on other than Curb and Breaking Bad. But I think next summer I'd rather spend an extra hour frolfing.

sorry for the long post

LOL!! No need to be sorry. I've always found the accents to be extremely annoying, being a southern person,I hate hearing people fake a southern accent. This season was a little better than last season, and I just like to see Eric naked. Mmm.... haha!!
