Title: Weezer
Post by: Vesanic on Dec 08, 2009, 10:23 AM
I can't see the old one, so I think it's time to make another one.

Let's start by some bad news:

aw. i love weezer and all, but the conceiving of ratitude was definitely the cause of this bus crash.

Fuck Weezer these days. They haven't made a decent album since Maladroit. More importantly, fuck Rivers Cuomo.

Collaborating with Lil Wayne, doing Rock Band commercials with Taylor Swift and writing songs for Katy Perry and Adam Lambert. Seriously. What the fuck.

you should really be ashamed of yourself, rivers was just in a bus crash that could have ended his life, and you talk down on him just because you arent happy with their last few albums.

your my friend, are an asshole.

with that said.

i agree with theis.. weezer really does suck balls anymore, and rivers sucks too ( just hope hes okay from the crash and all )
they were a good band up until maladroit, and even make believe wasnt bad. but anything after make believe is pure garbage

I should be ashamed because he was in a car crash? He didn't die and wasn't even badly injured.

I had to post this just because it was too hilarious/embarrassing not too.  So they're coming out with a new album in September, which most of you may know and just choose to ignore (a good idea).  The album is titled "Hurley", and, I shit you not, this is the cover:

Now I love Lost, but come on.

yeah I just read about that cover as well. I'm speechless. in a bad way. I'm a Lostie, I'm a Weezer fan, probably one of the few around these parts, and I even liked Raditude (but really anything would've been better than the Red Album). This whole idea is just plain dumb, especially since the ACTUAL music and lyrics won't have anything to do with the character or show. whatever. i wrote too much about this pointless subject.

Yeah, most definitely great songs. I don't think there is a song i don't like on the album. (Besides the Coldplay cover which I quickly discarded the second I heard it haha)

Current favorites are "Run away" and "Time Flies" love that raw feeling on run away, and the fuzziness on "time flies" makes the song that much better. reminds me of the blue album and pinkerton days.  :)

'raw' is probably the word i've been looking for to describe this. definitely not better than their first few albums, but you're correct that it indeed has that raw-ish sound pinkerton and blue had.

They haven't made a decent album since Pinkerton, IMO.

And bravo for Rivers writing songs for Katy Perry and Adam Lambert. That's cash money in his pocket either by royalties or a fat check. Not to mention that's respect, someone respects him well enough to hire him to write a song for 2 of the top 40 artists. Not too shabby in my book.

Now the Lil' Wayne collaboration... that's pure marketing. Though it soils the image we all hold dear of Weezer. At least for me. They're no longer the scrawny nerds playing the poppy alternative that I grew to love... they're a brand of product now.

That video devilinside posted....

My pants are wet.  ;D

The funny thing is if you were a vocalist that got commissioned to work with Katy Perry and was offered 500,000 dollars to do it plus a portion of every song sold... Well, really, do I need to finish this sentence?  Get over it.

pinkerton (including the "songs from the black hole" stuff)

that era was just a massive burst of creativity. i really respected rivers for taking such a chance writing honest, crushing music after the success of the mostly positive vibes that filled the blue album.

I've been listening to some of the old B-sides. Some of them are really really good. " The Sister Song" and "Everybody Wants a Chance to be All Alone" are great songs. Their Pixies cover of Velouria is amazing. If you're a weezer fan and haven't checked that out, I suggest you do, not typical Weezer.

Right, so i wasn't much of a fan of Pinkerton. Loathe it at one point even. But having gone through a breakup in the last few months. Pinkerton has been a godsend of help. I have a new found love and appreciation for it.

I like the song with the really long title. Summer Elaine and drunk Dori I think its called. Suuuuper vintage sounding. The rest is solid for the most part.

I agree.  White has been getting equal playtime with Gore the past few days.

My personal ranking:
Pinkerton
Blue
White
EWBAITE
Maladroit
Green
Everything else.

really solid album. wind in our sail and jacked up are my favorites.

loved everything will be alright in the end (the british are coming especially) and hurley as well.

everyone seems to shit on hurley and i dont get it at all. ruling me, trainwrecks, smart girls, wheres my sex, memories, time flies, unspoken. basically the entire album sans maybe brave new world is solid as hell.

I was underwhelmed

I can totally understand why people see this as a return to form, because some of the guitar riffs and melodies sound like ones off Pinkerton. But that's it. It just aesthetically recalls Pinkerton, but it doesn't have the emotional intensity at all.

I still think their best post Pinkerton album is RED. And if RED had some of the b-sides on the album (such as Pig) it'd be right up there.
Title: Re: Weezer
Post by: Vesanic on May 01, 2016, 06:04 AM
I don't get how people expect the same emotional impact as in something like Pinkerton. It just can't be faked or recreated. They're making different music is all. They're not in the same emotional rollercoaster. Oh and Matt Sharp.
