You're almost right. And i fucking hate that aspect of the game. Diving should be rewarded with a yellow card no matter the situation.  I get so pissed every time i see some asshole lay down and whine. But other than that it's a brilliant sport.

Second half you didnt do shit except that lucky goal and thats it. You put Blanco (An old fat forward) and Hernandez that touched only one ball. Southafrica had Mexico playing on their own side all the second half and you were lucky enough not to lose with that 37 years old goalkeeper. I really dont understand why the coach of your team replaces the goalkeeper that took you to the World Cup with this lousy old man.

No way Mexico, was taking the ball more to S.Africa side. If S. Africa truly deserved to win it. They would have put more effort into it. They had like two easy shots and they ruined it. I'll be honest Mexico was being a bunch of lazy asses sometimes.

I cheered for South Africa when they scored, always nice to see a host team score. They aren't the type of team to push the play, just capitalize on mistakes. Well from what I saw.

Saw him play a couple of times with the national team and didnt impressed me at all. I really dont know what this coach sees on that midget, the same with Aguero and Tevez. 2 idiots that only play good in their teams otherwise they plain sucks. Argentina's game will be based around Higuain and Messi.

Yes

Argentina-Nigeria

The final score is kinda a lie because Argentina (Messi) had at least 5 chances denied by the goalkeeper. Tevez and Veron didnt do shit except lose balloons, I hope not to see none of them next game. What did I say about that midget Di Maria? He didnt do shit as expect it. Very nice play but as I said this match should have ended at least 4-0 in favor of Argentina.

Next England-USA a very great match indeed :D

Maybe the score would have been different if Australia scored that first attempt on the first 10 minutes. Germany played really good but like I think it is bullshit that it has 5 players nationalized germans. Tomorrow Japan-Cameroon and Italy-Paraguay, which would be the big game tomorrow.

Stoked the Aussies lost...and lost bad.

I was quite happy to support them on an equal basis as New Zealand till they showed their true colours in the friendly.Dirty cheats equates to fail in the world cup and their fans are sore losers to boot.Even the coach admits to it.

I love Aussies but that team is full of bitter and dirty players.See you next time, hopefully with a mature team.

Go the All Whites, at least we will lose with honour and if we win I'll get naked with baby oil.

Holland, as usual in their opening games, sucked balls. Only after 70 minutes did they play decent.

The thing I can't get over is how constant the noise is, it's like you'd expect the European supporters to be more reserved in their use but it seems even they're at it. If i spent all that money to go there and some special needs guy was behind me blowing a horn in my face for the entire match i'd be pretty gutted.

Yeah really. I wonder what it's like in the stadiums, if it's fucking deafening to me in my living room, it must be a right pain for the people who are actually there.

It's just the way the game is these days man. It's always happened, but as players move from country to country, league to league, club to club, as they have for many years now, they pick up things along the way. For example, although players have always dived, it really began to get worse in the Premier League in England when the 'foreign invasion' happened. Players would come across from Europe and bring with them certain habits picked up in other leagues. It's now at the point though where it's part of the game. It'll never go away unless there are harsher penalties for it.

Without foreign players though, the Premier League would not be where it is today. The standard of football being played is awesome and the money involved attracts huge stars who, whilst once upon a time brought with them a style of bending the rules that wasn't often talked about, now bring a style of football that forces everyone else to change their game.

I'm chatting shit, but while in some ways football is turning into more and more of a joke, in other ways I think the standard of football being played these days has never been better. It's pure beauty sometimes.

Regarding the World Cup.. The only half decent performance I've seen so far was by Germany. Fuck them.. But they played some outstanding football the other night.

And I think a certain Lionel Messi has a lot more to show.... ;)

Brazil's game was good until but the second goal was with a little help of his arm and hand. Paraguay had no struggle on their victory.

Controversial referee Koman Coulibaly was left off FIFA's list for the next batch of World Cup matches following the error that likely cost the United States a victory against Slovenia.
Yahoo! Sports revealed on Friday that Coulibaly was "highly unlikely" to take any further part in the tournament after being given a poor evaluation by assessors following his decision to disallow Maurice Edu's 85th-minute goal. FIFA confirmed Sunday that Coulibaly will not play any part in Tuesday or Wednesday's matches, which will include the USA's critical Group C finale against Algeria.
Instead, as they step into the arena of Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday with their World Cup life at stake, the Americans will be officiated by a man who has just witnessed a combat far more brutal than any game in the tournament.
Belgian referee Frank De Bleeckere will prepare himself for the occasion by watching a DVD of the movie "Gladiator" before taking center stage in a game that decides the USA's destiny – with a victory guaranteed to put the Americans through to the round of 16.
FIFA deliberately assigned De Bleeckere, a highly experienced and respected referee, to this game in response to the storm of controversy that came after the United States' 2-2 draw with Slovenia. De Bleeckere has been in charge of big matches many times in the past, most notably a Champions League clash between Chelsea and Barcelona in 2006 which came a year after a pair of explosive matches between those European super clubs.
"I don't look at reputation or anything that has gone before," De Bleeckere said. "I will watch the previous games of USA and Algeria to help me understand their tactics and work on my positioning. But I will watch 'Gladiator' first."
Referees at the tournament have come under heavy criticism after a series of bad calls compounded by a stubborn refusal to explain their actions publicly.
On Monday, the FIFA referee committee tried to go on a charm offensive by inviting the media to an open day but totally defeated the object of the exercise by refusing to answer questions about specific decisions.
Neither Coulibaly nor Stephane Lannoy – the French referee who erred in sending off Brazil's Kaka against the Ivory Coast on Sunday – were present. Coulibaly's assistant, Inacio Candido of Angola, was in attendance.
When asked if the controversy following the Edu no-goal had affected Coulibaly, Candido replied: "A referee is like a player. When they lose an opportunity to score a goal, they put it behind them."

Im glad if that referee is send home because he fucked up big time.
Portugal was on fire today 7-0 ! Chile did a pretty good job but I tought the official of this match was a pain in the ass for all the players, 10 yellow cards and 1 red.
Spain should have won at least by 7 goals like Portugal, but instead they did a pretty decent job. They even missed a penalty shot which I think it was so stupid.
Tomorrow matches Mexico-Uruguay, France-South Africa, Nigeria-Korea, Greece-Argentina.

Cheers bro.

It's the best we have ever done in football which is a huge minority sport here.Watched every game, the draw against Italy was HUGE but I thought we let ourselves down a bit playing Paraguay and were close to making the 16.

Either way I plan to greet the team at the airport with a few friends and hope to shake a few hands. So proud of what the team did for themselves and football in New Zealand.

Fully supporting Slovakia for their maturity and respect towards us when we played them and the fact they are major underdogs, like we were.

i know i probably shouldn't have said that, it will piss people off, but seriously i've realized with this world cup that soccer players are the biggest floppers and whiners and divas on the planet. plus the "strategy" of playing keepaway by ghana for the last 25 minutes... fuck that, that's bush league.
Title: Re: The 2010 World Cup South Africa Thread

To be honest USA should have held on to their 2-1, if they let ghana back in it ofcourse they will try everything they can to keep themselves in the match, they were the underdogs and the last african nation in the worldcup!  Howard should have saved both, to get done at his near post for the first with his amount of experience isn't good enough. USA's attitude has always been very good though and to be honest they could have sailed through the match on another day.

Obviously between England and Germany there is lots of history. Should be a tough match, but England didn't beat Germany in a while, and today it's not going to be any different.

I wonder how people in Portugal and Spain think about their upcoming match, considering both nations are very proud of their football team and would hate to lose against their neighbor. Spain might have the stronger team, but I am sure the Portuguese are not planning to give away any presents.

The second half could have been entirely different. If the teams were tied at half time, both teams would probably have been more careful, and maybe the end result could have ended up entirely different aswell. With that said, i think Germany would've still won. They have so much quality in all parts of the team, and they play so well together. It's such a joy to watch the young guns like Özie and Müller ripping the English team to shreds. I'm guessing Germany go all the way this year, allthough i really hope Spain will win.

Oh by the way that Paraguay babe is called Larissa Riquelme ;)

One national team from South America in each quarterfinal, that's pretty impressive.

I'm still hoping for a Netherlands-Germany Final.

As expected you are a pathetic mexican LMAO Now Im pretty sure you are rooting for them to win LMAO What a pathetic piece of shit. You give bad credit to the ppl of your country.

Argentina played like total shit today. The first goal was what got this team down. Messi didnt do shit with the exception of losing balloons. I really dont understand why the coach took that long to make some changes.
Coming up next Paraguay-Spain which I think is going to be an awesome game.

you better shut up dude. As it is shown, and as i've been saying, Argentina didn't have a good team, they were lucky cuz they played against minor teams (even Mexico could beat those chés, but they were victims of their own errors), Mexico started dominating he Argentinians, but since the error from the referee, the lose concentration (and I'm not saying it's an excuse, they SHOULDN'T have lose the concentration, specially during the 2nd goal.)
So now they play against a pretty decent team (IMO the best team of the tournament along with Holland) and they show their real face.

GO GERMANY.

Until now, Argentina has been showing a solid game and was the second best team of the Cup, first one being Germany.

I agree with this. The problem in this match is that the players wanted to show off for themselves and not play as a team, individualism killed the hope. And I sustain think messi did a nice job at first, not playing the Ego role. Germany were clearly more effective and their tactics proved to be more powerful than ours in the right time. Shit happens, I guess.

Because Spain didn't let them play. It's not that Germany weren't good, what little they managed to produce was really dangerous, but they just didn't get the chance very often.

Obviously the group with the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Germany will be the toughest of them all.

Denmark maybe the least likely to make it through, but I wouldn't write them off since they got good players in all the big European leagues, so they have an outside chance if they bring a good team effort.

Netherlands and Germany the big favorites, but Portugal can beat any team on a good day ( but also suck pretty hard like the losses to Norway or Denmark in the Qualifying tournament )- So we'll see, I definitely can't wait for it to begin.

There is hardly a match of the German national team I haven't seen in the last few years... maybe a few test / qualifying games when I had to work or something.

All I'm saying is I think this group won't be decided before the final two group games.

Though that doesn't mean I don't expect Germany to get through.
Title: Re: The 2010 World Cup South Africa Thread
Post by: snw9 on Jan 27, 2012, 01:08 PM
It seems more like the first game: Germany-Portugal and the last game Netherlands-Portugal will be deciders PLUS Germany-Netherlands.
I think this group by far is the worst group of death. Even more than the last Euro when Netherlands were drawn with Italy, France and Romania.

According to that logic, no matter how Denmark is going to play, the results won't matter anyways. => a.k.a. you're wrong

They're not gonna give away free wins because they're such a cute little country. So I'm gonna stick to what I said.

And I don't get that second sentence either.
For me the worst thing about this group is that only two teams will reach the knockout stage, so what is wrong about it?

May I ask you something - Do you even watch football?

Because so far I'm not sure if you're making fun of it or if you actually mean what you write, at least regarding this topic.

Well, look at the currrent squads of all the teams. Germany and Netherlands are close to 5 star teams, without a doubt their top players will be competing in the Euros. Portugal is a good team too and Netherlands have lost to them twice already in 2 tournaments so lets see what happens this time, Netherlands have a very experienced and talented squad. I am writing off Denmark (no offense to anyone here) because they're not as good as the European giants drawn in their group.

I watch A LOT of football:  English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch....
In regards to my second sentence, I was comparing last year's group of the death to this year's group of death. Seeing now there are 3 highly competitive teams and one that isn't very competitive, its going to be interesting
Title: Re: The 2010 World Cup South Africa Thread
Post by: black coffee on Jan 29, 2012, 04:55 PM
Portugal also thought they'd end up first in their Qualifying group, and in fact it was Denmark.
So it appears they didn't shit their pants cause they had to play one of the "European giants".

But you know, its all good. I'm actually happy we got such a difficult group. We all expect our team to get through, and I prefer a tough group and better preperation for the later stages of the tournament.
