Title: Albums of the Week by BLBC
Post by: bright lights, big city on May 06, 2011, 05:57 PM
I'm probably going to use this to post some heavier music, at least for now since I have some good shit coming down the poopshoot for this thread. First up, a friend of mine's band...

Bongripper - Satan Worshipping Doom (2010)

http://www.mediafire.com/?f8yjsw5zf863661

Genre: Doom/Sludge/Instrumental/Stoner
Sounds like: Yob, Buried At Sea, Old Man Gloom, Earth
When I looked for a song on youtube, I saw this comment that sums up this album: "I don't understand why there are so many shitty bands out there. I mean, seriously.... name your band Bongripper, name your album Satan Worshipping Doom, play heavy as fuck doom-riffs, and put titties and fire on your album cover. This isn't rocket science."

Smith Westerns - Dye It Blonde (2011)

Genre: Rock/Glam/Pop
Sorry this is another asshole Chicago band, but I've got high hopes for these guys. They're barely out of high school, but they managed to already create a record completely filled with catchy melodies and tons of glammy guitar hooks. The vocals might be kind of a love-hate thing for some. This has still been a consistent fixture in my music rotation since it came out in January. Their myspace page has their 2 popular songs. So I chose to highlight a different good-but-chill song here.

Cults - Cults (2011)

http://www.wupload.com/file/2669280/Cults.zip (http://www.wupload.com/file/2669280/Cults.zip)

Genre: Lo-Fi/Garage
Best songs: Bumper, Rave On, Go Outside, Abducted
This seriously just leaked, but it's instantly taken over my stereo. This is a GREAT summer album, I'd say in vain of Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend, The Drums, Best Coast. Not a single bad track on this album.

MAKE TIME by Cults (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKM0eKexKwk#)

That song isn't even on it. For some odd reason they left it off. download that single track here: http://www.downloads.nl/music/Cults+Make+Time (http://www.downloads.nl/music/Cults+Make+Time)

You scared me with the Smith Westerns. I didn't even give it a go, cause you classified it as glam.

haha makes sense then. Their music sort of reminded me of Bowie, that's where that connection came. If Bowie's glam, well then I fucking love glam then.

Hmm, that's one way of looking at it. I too love glam then.

It's been a long time, but I figured I'd recommend the new Baroness. Now that that is out of the way here's another contender for album of the ____. (Right now it's up for album of the summer)

JJAMZ - Suicide Pact
genre: Indie Pop

JJAMZ - Heartbeat (With Lyrics In Description) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_M36-zSMdo#)
That song is one of only 2 songs up on youtube. Whole album is amazing, but that's nowhere near the best material.

I retract my statement about bongripper.
