I've been contacted by the band management about the Deftones documentary "Entertain Me" leakage. They asked that the link be taken down as the film was never approved by concerned parties, nor was it entirely completed. The film, as it is now, was never meant to be released by any means in any public forum.
I was forced to delete the original topic, if you love the band, you should respect the band. If you have the file keep it for yourself, if you don't have it do NOT ask here. From now on any link for any torrent/download to the Entertain Me file will be deleted.
This is and has always been a democratic forum, so I wont lock this one, you can talk about this issue but do not attempt to lead someone to any site with the leak.

i don't understand what's so bad and evil about this doc that the label or even the band don't want to release it even 10 years later, it's not like it's a bad documentary that gives a bad or wrong idea of the band, on the contrary...
So the guys close to the band ignore our pleas for varied setlists but they freak out when something they arn't even planning on releasing leaks?

In Some Kind of Monster documentary about Metallica, they showed Kirk struggling to play basic riffs and complaining with the other band members about the lack of solos for the ST Anger album and that didn't hurt the image of the band or made lose fans... it's very common to show this kind of stuff in these documentaries, it makes the band members more... human, and less rockstars, invincible beings that the labels like to make them. In these documentary Entertain Me, you don't see the band members fighting each other, in fact there are more fun stuff than depressing ones.

I saw that performance on Connan ages ago though, and always wondered what was up with his throat. The documentary cleared that up for me really. I was able to sympathise with him, and as a result I the scenes on the beach was just him clearing his head and venting.
i just saw it. Good times...lots of good memories.
It´s very personal, i guess. We can see some backstage shits, that we only imagine. And yes, the family, kids, home...but i kinda agree with vinsanity comparing it to some kind of monster.
Nothing special, but it was a good trip to WP era. Things are not the same. And i guess that, in a way, they are better. We all grew with them.
Steph and Abe made my laugh a lot.

They probably dont want it release because they changed since that time. The personal and family footage must not be very pleasant for them since well some of them got divorced , remarried etc ... But to be fair nothing that we saw in this we didn't already know , because lets be honest only hardcore fans were eager to watch it. It was no secret that there was some drug abuse and all.
Watching this made me realize how much i miss Chi , how Abe and Stephan are hilarious and surprisingly i saw a very vulnerable Chino .
All in all i get it that they are a different band now and they probably dont want the past to always come back to them.
Its honestly worth watching though.

Chi's breakdown of how the band writes songs was great. So was Chino and Stephen lip-syncing to that song on the tourbus.
Why when something leaks does everyone have to post a link to it in a format I cant download so I end up missing it?

Kinda wish I wouldn't have watched this now. I think over the years I have built up this image of deftones in my head which is probably completely different from the reality of things and this documentary just... erghh I don't know how to say it really. Most of the interview parts are throwaway standard interview talk - being on the road is hard etc. But some of the parts with Chino (when he is sober) are really insightful and emotional. As far as I am aware he never really talks about his vocal injuries (more hardcore SL peeps may know more) and in this era it appears that they hit him mentally really hard.

well... i actually liked it alot.for me - packed with cool unseen stuff. honestly i don't even care about if it's a good band documentary or not,if i learned anything new or not, i liked it for different reasons.personally I could do without all the mediocre live stuff and interviews how they started out and just have that space filled with more backstage/tour buss stuff/ cameras rolling when they just are themselves. like the youtube detroit backstage clip where chino is passed out on the floor while steph is there poking between chino's buttocks,even more decadent stuff like that on here. i just wanna revel in that sort of deftones stuff. (them partying hard that is,not touching each other in weird places). but i can see how that sort of film wouldn't get released, or get made for that matter.
still, nice depressing mood throughout the film with moments that really cut deep, but also filled with a lot of humour that makes you smile and giggle like a school girl.if they would put out a dvd with new stuff, when they are in their fourties, it just wouldn't be the same. i'm very happy to have this, would definately buy it if it ever got released .but i can't see a release happening, especially now that it got leaked

I really enjoyed this. Loved especially seeing the opening scenes from the shows on the BTS tour, what with the big red white pony stage curtain, reminded me of my first tones show in 2001. The versions of Korea, My Own Summer, and Feit that are cut from a few different shows on that tour are pretty awesome and all new to me. Quite a few LOL moments along the way. They are such a different band these days...

I really enjoyed it, it's a great insight into what life was like for the band back then, and it had some personal touches that I doubt we would have seen anywhere else. I can really understand why the band wouldn't want this to be released officially, not in a negative way, I just think they deserve a much better production to warrant an official release.
I did like all of the funny moments are little things here and there that we don't normally see. Plus the scenes on the beach when Chino is clearly off his head on something are a bit uncomfortable

The Andrew Bennett Interview from 2008 not Entertain Me obviously, question seemed like it was directed at the interview not the DVD. So don't get me wrong I knew when Chi had Dreads and Chino dyed his hair :P. Entertain Me goes from 99-01 with snippets from previous stuff cut in. I agree it woulda been cool if it had ST stuff involved but than again it'd just go to the time of the last deftones stuff of 01 cuz chino seemed to be with team sleep in late 01-early 02 so there's the cut. I'm not sure what time the Abe interviews in the car was could be some of the latest overall together with the Chi Stuff before they moved up to make Hawaii DVD.

Got it right on the first time. I've been in Circleville for about 6 years now and sweet.
In spite of it not being meant to be released (in this form), I must admit; I found it and watched it.
It's great to see. Watching live and behind the scenes footage of my all-time favorite band usually is. That said, I think I can - or I can imagine why - they wouldn't want this to be released, as well as thinking to be able to - through interviews and seeing them live - put this in perspective. If that makes sense.

Well, i found and watched the video, i can't understand why they didn't want to release it.... it is not an award winning documentary that's for sure but i don't find it dark or decadent as some reviewers posted earlier, to me is just a classic band documentary, i mean the guys (except for Stef) talking about how they handle the fact that they have to be on tour for so long and how this affects their lives and bodies, some stories about how the band started and footage of the guys goofing around along with live performances and backstage images... pretty normal stuff for a touring band if you ask me.
If you want a sneak peak of this documentary check out the Digital Bath music video... pretty much all the footage used on that video comes from this documentary.

I have 7 words and Minerva from this show too. The story goes that the show was recorded by Andrew Bennett to be released as a DVD but nobody recorded the soundboard audio, only 7 words, which is the only one of the 3 videos that I have from the show that has live audio.
CHange also exists but is still hidden somewhere.
I watched it the other night. Honestly, I'd recommend it. It's certainly more appealing to the hardcore fan though. There are things in this documentary that would have made my dick hard years ago, at the peak of my obsession. I can totally understand why they wouldn't want it released. But as a fan, I loved it.

As a long time fan and ex-late90's-Deftones-VHS-bootleg collector- I really fucking loved this movie. So many little moments and windows into their world. It made me admire how much they ARENT in the spotlight.
That being said, I can see why it wasnt released. A deftones doc should have a more cinematic quality to it. not in the vid quality, but in the editing, in the footage, in the feel. "Wives" is a no no subject in tour docs(kids are okay tho). this one went kind of deep into it. I feel like more should have been filmed to possibly edit in.
I was really shocked that I didnt know about this. I'm really glad I found it. but after watching it, I think it's good that you have to search for it. It is better suited for the hardcore fans.
i don't think it's a final cut, the trailer (http://www.directedbyandrewbennett.com/2011webtrailers.html) on andrew bennet's site is in high quality, and has clips that aren't in the movie.
i think what leaked was a first cut, or something unfinished.

There is definitely not an extended version so don't start any rumors. Andrew has more footage obviously and what was leaked was not final cut, it was almost final cut.

About Waldrock. I know absolutley sure there was nothing filmed. It was just before digital camera's en I only know the show was broadcasted on the radio (an alternative radio show in the Netherlands). I missed out on that because I was at the show and when I returned I contacted the organisor who was kindly enough to sell me the recording. It was not the full show which appeared on a bootleg later on but still, it was cool....
I have such weird memories about Waldrock. I'm thinking about writing a detailed story about it....

I've worked as a creative lead in Broadcast Television and Film in North America and have a few notes on why Entertain Me: A Film About Deftones was never released.
If you'll indulge me.
Errors and Omissions : Productions need legal insurance or releases for copyrighted material that they use for their work. So whether it's an ad agency paying Massive Attack via Virgin/EMI to use the song "Angel" in a car commercial, or even if they wanted someone to simply acapella the song in the commercial they would need expressed consent.
Entertain Me - Copyrighted materials

3. Morrissey - Everyday is like Sunday
Note that Morrissey and Prince are both Megalomaniac's and there's no way in hell they'd entertain the notion of some Nu-Metal punk's rocking out to their music in a home movie release.
Besides this, the movie blatantly shows how hard that the record execs were being on the Deftones. In one scene, Chino is going off about how they gave him notes to not scream in the songs. At the Conan O'Brien show there's even an exec suggesting that Chino to "say" the words so he doesn't crack his voice when they play Back To School. Overall it makes the execs look like assholes - the same people who would have had the say if Entertain Me would be released.
Annnd finally, the petition that was made years ago where it was paraphrased that the label told Andrew Bennett the movie was "Dark and Depressing" just came off as a poor defamation of the label's integrity and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a negative effect on Bennett's working relationship with Maverick or Warner Bros. It all comes down to politics in this industry.
no wonder they didn't release it. this movie mostly bores me.

Just watched it and yeah it was kinda blah.
I wanted to squash Chino's mini piano thing, cos it fucking annoyed the hell out of me.
What I liked was to see the private things you normally would never see and it kinda gave me goosebumps to see Chino singing "Teenager" in the studio/on stage.
Besides that a lot of alcohol.
But it was like 12 years ago, my whole life changed a few times during that time and seeing Chi was really great and sad at the same time...

Yep, man, 30th December and any new infos from Bennett (his SL account last login was on 26th December). It's too good to be true, to me. I mean, you can't "release" an official, signed by the band documentary, just by letting it to download by fans for a small fee, without making such things like covers, DVD packages, etc. Time will tell, but I wish I could be wrong...

We "interviewed" Andrew during Christmas Eve, he talked about "Entertain Me" a lot (lots of informations was useful, even one of major radio stations from our country made an entry on the interview and the movie), but it's not happening...
When deftfan will be online, he will be trying to contact Andrew, to say what is going on.
Deftones is spelled D*ftones on the Entertain Me site and 'dftones' in the site's url link.
These guys must really not want anyone affiliated with the band or their label being hip to this, but I have a sneaking suspicion they already are, sadly..

It's not wildly different. I did enjoy the extra/new footage though. IMO worth the ten bucks. It still does seem "not finished" in a way. The part where Chino is playing the keyboard and talks about his wife calling was in there twice, and at the end it says "end credits go here" instead of credits. Don't know if that was intentional or not.

I bought it and watched it. It's legit. I was hoping for more White Pony recording sessions scenes, but they've been taken out entirely. A lot of faces of bystanders, etc are blurred out but not too well. Also, Columbus is still spelled wrong. lol.

Is Velvet Hammer and 'band camp' the same? I doubt it. I bet the band love/like it and don't mind that Andrew released this. I kinda figured this could/would happen but I'm not sure about all that legal stuff. He is not using the name Deftones but just D*ftones so.... We all love it and If it wasn't for Andy, we would never ever see something cool like this. I mean, how many times have there been ideas/rumors etc about upcoming a Deftones home video (back in like 1999) or a live DVD (2010) and some other stuff we have never seen. It's all about money I bet....

I'm sure the band is cool with this film being released after fucking 15 years!!! the "hardcore fans" always want to see everything from our favorite band, the good and the bad things. We are the ones who judge if something is good or bad 'cause in the end we are the only people in this world who gives a shit about this film.

Not gonna pretend I know where the beef for fighting back and forth is coming from but I can see Deftones taking pride in the type of material they'd like released, quality of product, the spotlight of where they were in their careers at the time, etc. I see the loopholes andrew went through to try and make it a unofficical/official kinda thing. Having a "snaphot" of yourself during a certain timeframe isn't probably all that comfortable sometimes. Retrospection and all that. Regardless, I'll collect everything they release. It's always a few notches above a lot of other bands I enjoy.
Still feel bad for having gotten the money back. I don't want my money back. I want Andrew to be able to pay his bills. And then some. And some more. This film is awesome.

Basically, my opinion on "Entertain Me" was written on my fansite yesterday. I don't think I should add something else.

His plot of sharing money from buying movie (50% to Chi's family, 50% to repay debt) was good, but it didn't work out in an effective way, all the legal issues and so on aren't on Andrew's site, not looking at Velvet Hammer's(?) reply. One of the ways of sharing and monetizing his work (close to be legal) could be organizing some "exhibitions" with the movie being depicted or caritative gigs with bands playing 'Tones songs, maybe with private appearance and/or "patronage" by Deftones members.
We could also pay this $10 direct to Bennett, but you know, he must be informed on such matter, must pass PayPal or stuff accounts to send the money (like in Chi's fundraiser), but Andy is offline at present, I guess.

That alone should tell you enough. This whole thing has been about Andrew's oversized ego - a thinly veiled attempt to get attention in the name "doing the right thing" for Chi. It's disgusting how he attempts to hide behind that. By the way did anyone ever find out the source of that "unauthorized leak" a couple years back? Bottom line, the way he handled this has been a mess and a black eye to both the band and fans. If you want to watch the doc, view it on youtube. If you want to donate, contact someone whose motives are pure, like Gina.

I think I safely speak for more than just myself in expressing how appreciative I am as a fan of this band that you tried to make this available on a wide scale, and succeeded in that enough of us did manage to download a copy and will ensure others have the chance to see it as well, with the recommendation that they send you the proper funds in support.
Thank you for this, Andrew. You did a great job with this and it's an important piece of the band's catalogue that was missing until now. One love ;D

ok thats your opinion and despite the fact I do not agree with you, I gotta respect that... you do what you want.
That said, I dont think A.B would rip ppl off. I dont know the guy but he seems a good person trying to do something for others, like Chi's family. AND, its 10 dollars. Hes not asking you the money of your tuition, your house or your soul. You dont wanna pay, thats fine. Lets just give the chance to guys around here who actually care or simply like the band and projects that involve them to support the cause.
