Long time lurker here. Just now signed up. Been a fan since 1996. Seen the Deftones at OzzFest 1999 in St Louis, Mo and then again at The Pageant in St Louis, Mo in 2013.
Anyway, after listening to Prayers/Triangles countless times, I've noticed that the lyrics to the end of the song says "I pull my heart out... beware!" Do you think this has some kind of meaning or shall I say "Connection" or "Warning" to Hearts/Wires? It just got me thinking after reading those lyrics and seeing that both tracks 1 and 5 have two words separated with a slash. Just a thought......
Maybe. I was thinking that Prayers/Triangles would be 2 music in one... Something like they've done with Romantic Dreams, where we have multiple layers of sounds and styles. But since it's only lyrics related, maybe Hearts/Wires will be something like a Part 2 Of Prayers/Triangles...

I did too at first as well before I heard the teaser. It reminded me of Black Sabbath. Like "Behind the Wall of Sleep/N.I.B" or "Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener", Under the Sun/Every Day comes and Goes. You get my drift. lol

That's what I've been thinking. It's going to be very interesting to find out! Something new for the Deftones as well if that is the case.

Prayers/Triangles being one of the weaker songs on the album per someone who's heard it has me pumped.
I already like it a lot better than the singles from KNY, Leathers and Tempest. So it being a relatively weak song is great news!
I also agree that 976-Evil is the weakest song on DE, along with This Place is Death. So again, very good news that Prayers/Triangles, a song I like a lot, is on the weaker end of the scale.

Same here. I already assumed Prayers/Triangles would be one of the least exciting songs, just because I felt like they released it to cater to the masses and get most people excited for the album, while saving the experimental stuff for people to discover when they get the album. I love the song, but for me, it just means the rest of the album will be awesome.
I love 976-Evil, and This Place is Death, beautiful songs, very atmospheric.
It's not that I "don't like" 976-Evil, I just find it weaker than the rest of the songs on DE. It's the same feeling I have with Good Morning Beautiful, it's a decent song it just doesn't stack up to the rest on ST.
But this is what I love the most about Deftones, they have such a wide variety of musical styles and influences that we can all hear the same albums and have wildly differfent ideas about what songs are best! It happens with every band, to a degree, but I've never seen another band with such a varied fanbase.

I agree with those saying 976-Evil is space-rock Deftones. That whole song just rips. It sounds completely unlike anything else in their discography, and Chino's vocals are godhead on that song, the way he sounds like he's singing into infinity on that chorus..

I don't think he was. He was way off on the track lengths, couldn't say for sure which song had the Cantrell solo, and then pulled up roots and bailed when people started questioning his validity.

I'm usually pretty good with remembering track lengths for songs. I don't sit there and time the stuff on a watch or anything, but songs like Rubicon and Phantom Bride are nearly half the length originally reported. (L)MIRL nearly three times as long. Any time someone who claims to have heard something no one else has offers up blanket statements like "seems legit, yea", I'm immediately skeptic.
To be honest, I was just trolling with that remark. The guy got lame quick with his vague replies and constant fast-editing bullshit. He was clearly stringing us along, to an extent.
And to be fair, I called 'Phantom Bride' out as being the Cantrell-solo track days before that guy even alluded to it. It isn't too hard to figure out, all things considering. (L)MIRL or Geometric Headdress just don't sound like something a Cantrell solo would be on.
