just got back from seeing head automatica and had a chance to talk to daryl for a second. when i spoke with him i said how i hadn't seen him perform for a few years back when gj played with dredg and hot water music at snocore. when i asked if glassjaw was done for, his response was: "we're not fucking dead at all man." not sure what that means, but there's still hope.
as for the show, they were great. played for about an hour. lots of new songs that were even more energetic than ones off of decadence. 3 of the titles i can remember were Shirley, Continental Divide, and Graduation Day.
a static lullaby was the headliner and once they started, about 75% of the crowd left. hard to really match the energy.

yeah, i wouldn't call it a bugging really. there weren't many people there and he was just kind of hanging out. he also said that the new head automatica cd is well into the works. i think he was just happy i wasnt a girl who wanted him to sign more shit. i didnt want to be a dick and ask a ton of questions, just wanted to tell him i appreciated his work. he's a pretty gracious person and whatnot.
If I was Daryl I wouldn't be annoyed at all, more like glad/flattered that there are still plenty of Glassjaw fans out there, waiting for new material.

That's cool, I hope Glassjaw comes back. Head Automatica is pretty cool, but it gets kinda tiresome after repeated listenings.

if you are referring to theSTART, Sonny isn't in the band it's actually Snot drummer Jamie Miller who plays guitar/keyboards. wrong Snot member lol but if you haven't checked them out i highly suggest you do they are one of my favorite bands and some of my best friends too.

I think Finch have grown up a lot, I like what I've heard..which is about half the new album.
I like theUsed, but not nearly as much as I used to, so GJ, Finch, and theSTART would be awesome...though Head Automatica and theSTART are touring next month and that will be one fun night.

I really dont like their new album at all, but I love the old stuff enough to go see them live anyway.

this tour is going to suck though it is going to be a really half-assed version of glassjaw. daryl hasn't even practiced with the band yet and he dosen't plan on. on a sirius radio interview he made mention while doing this tour he intends on traveling in a seperate bus with head automatica and writing new head automatica stuff every second that he isn't on the stage and also made mention of disintrest in the tour. glassjaw is dead and this tour was just an excuse for beck to get out of his office job for a month and see if he can still do this shit and to also shut up all the people complaining for glassjaw shows and new music. daryl's heart isn't in this band at all anymore and only grudginly agreed to do this tour because he knows he owes beck. beck and manny should just join chase pagan and let glassjaw call it a day offically. no use in prolonging the inevitable

My mom has Crohn's Disease and much like Daryl she has to take all these pills everyday (like the EYEWTKAS cover). I don't know if it is because Daryl is younger but my mom does not seem to have it as bad as Daryl.
All I know is that I just saved myself a good 60 dollars from the HA show and Glassjaw show. (tickets plus merch)
he was actually fine for a long period of time until he started drinking and doing drugs which are two things that are not recommended when you have chrohn's disease. back then he would occasionly have an attack of chrohn's in the state but usually only something minor and he would only really have a problem when he would go into other countries which is understandable. Ever since he started drinking and doing drugs though his attacks are more and more frequent and more and more severe. It is getting harder and harder for me to feel sorry for the guy anymore. that along with his recently acquired big headed attitude

Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo has gotten the go-ahead from his doctor to play one show with The Used on August 31st at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, NY. Speaking on the show, Palumbo had the following to say:
"It sucks that my health did not permit me to do the whole tour but I am excited to be able to play a Glassjaw show in my hometown. I am working hard on getting better and look forward to doing more touring with Head Automatica and Glassjaw in the future."
How convenient he is better for the home show. I guess he is making up for last year.

That was the show that went onsale and almost sold out mostly because of Glassjaw also the show i bought a bunch of tickets for. The show on August 31th was added about 2 days before glassjaw dropped off the bill and anyone who is a glassjaw fan probably didn't buy tickets to it. So basically everyone who bought tickets to the show on the 30th is now stuck with a ticket to a show they don't want to see and can't get a refund for while people who most likely weren't even big glassjaw fans now get to see them as an added bonus on the 31st. quite a wicked game this glassjaw plays

My stupid ass is still waiting for a real explanation about the current status of GlassJaw; if Daryl can TOUR with HA, then my still stupid ass would ASSUME that he would be healthy enought to tour w/GlassJaw; I know it is some FUCKed-up Logic...but it sound reasonable to me...
the glassjaw lineup has made some adjustments, they dont have much of an official roster to start touring
Manny's in Saves The Day now and Durijah's back touring with Classic Case so they won't be touring anytime soon but they are looking into doing some sort of tour in spring/summer but again who knows. But anyone who is looking for new material don't hold your breath that iTunes EP thing with the one crappy new song is the closest thing you will hear to new glassjaw for a very long time. unless they decide to record a studio version of natural born farmer or something but even that won't really be new. but expect a shitload of new gj merchandise this year though lol.
yeah it's funny how much beck uses glassjaw as a trademark, even if they don't exist anymore.

So I went to the Head Automatica website and listened to the entire new cd. It's ok. A lot of the stuff is very forgettable. But some of it is really good.
The last song, called "K Horse" is probably the closest thing you are going to get to Glassjaw right now.

it's Larry Gorman not Larry Goodman and he dosen't play drums in Glassjaw anymore. Durijah Lang (Classic Case) now plays drums in the band when they do play shows/record. He use to be in glassjaw a long ass time ago too for a short period of time. And yes you are right Sammy did play on EYEWTKAS as a favor to Ross but he did actually join the band for a short period of time and did a few shows with them but then decided to do Rival Schools fulltime and that's where Larry Gorman came into the picture.

Durijah was (one) of the original drummers. ross robinson talked the band into getting rid of him as he thought he didn't do them justice.

Hey guys.

Shannon was never the original drummer for Snot. It was some kid named Brent and then they got Cornfed who then later joined Ultraspank and then of course the great drum god Jamie Miller. The only time Shannon was the drummer was during the fall 98' tour. Shannon was the one to bring the band Snot together though and also played in a band called MF Pitbulls which had most of Snot in it, and was also the drummer for Souls At Zero which he later quit to join Ugly Kid Joe and Jamie Miller replaced him. Also none of the members of Snot have been in Amen since 2003 and i think they have changed lineups two or three times since 2003 also lol. The new Amen album that casey is working on now though Shannon layed down all the drum tracks for it and for free too.
i guess i should get some Snot, Ultraspank, MF Pitbulls, Ugly Kid Joe, and Souls at Zero seeing as I've never heard any of them

You know how you always attatch a certain feeling to something? I don't know why, but before I really knew Glassjaw, and saw their name in Mags, I just always thought they were nu metal.

i feel bad for Larry he joins glassjaw and then is told he isn't good enough to play drums on their album so they get someone else to do it and then he tours nonstop with the band for years for very little money and then they go on hiatus for a few years and then when they reform for those 2 shows they get someone else to play in his place and don't even tell him and even through all that he still never had a bad thing to say about those guys. not to mention he stuck with daryl through thick and thin for every project he was doing even though he payed him next to nothing and treated him like shit and now daryl kicks him out of those projects too with little to no explanation. it sucks too because larry is a really nice guy and he has been putting up with this for years

It's funny i had just as hard of time getting into glassjaw as i did trying to get into the deftones. But sure enough after giving it a chance to grow on me they're right up there with the tones as my favorite band now. I would suggest listening to the song " El Mark" first if your trying to get into them, as its a good representation of what to expect style wise. EYEWTKAS and Worship and Tribute are equally amazing!

ETYWTKAS is still my favourite song but its always hard to pick Piano, Siberian Kiss, Majour (Ma Hore), Pretty Lush, When One Eight...
there is so much passion on this album.
Even though they only have two (proper) albums, glassjaw is still my favourite.
To pick a better album is hard, let alone picking best song.
Worship And Tribute is their best album no question about it but best songs is more debatable

i still disagree i find a lot of the lyrics on EYEWTKAS childish and straightfoward and heavily rooted in misogynistic overtones and not that far from the "adidas metal" they were rallying against at the time of the album's release. W&T only the other hand is a far more well rounded effort all around and i feel this is where Daryl really came into his own as a lyricist (even though he did steal a lot from frank zappa and george reynolds in the process lol). I found daryl playing around more with metaphors and creating imagery with words and sounds on W&T as well. I am not saying EYEWTKAS is a bad album because it isn't i just feel W&T is the better album overall. the only thing EYEWTKAS has on W&T is just pure aggression.
If anything I find the lyrics on Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence to be honest and raw, which is why I like it so much. In my book, it's ok to be a little childish when you have your heart broken. Worship and Tribute is more evolved, but the lyrics aren't as passionate as the lyrics on Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence.

This is how I feel too. Worship and Tribute is definitely the better album, but I connect with the raw emotion of EYEWTKAS more.

It is a weird version of the songs. I do prefer the double kicks that are in Motel of the White Locust. This is the drummer before Ross Robinson got Sammy Seiger in (who is also their current drummer).
They do prove how amazing a producer Ross Robinson is!
I've always love the middle section of Star under my bed (I can see the fucking Manger/manager)...still a huge riff.

Sammy Seigler isn't their current drummer, Durijah Lang is their current drummer and i believe he was the drummer who played on those demos. Sammy only played on the record and for a couple shows after that before they hired Larry Gorman. Sammy now plays in Nightmare Of You.

I read an interview with Sammy who said that he felt stink that Ross made Daryl and becks fire Durijah and use Sammy because he Ross didn't think Durijah could play the songs properley.

I label them as being "progressive" even though they're not what people traditionally think of as "progressive" (long complicated songs, Tool, Mars Volta, etc.). Progressive to me implies pushing the limits of your music and trying your best not to repeat or imitate the style of the day. So not only is Tool a progressive band to me, so is Glassjaw, Deftones, Swift, Dredg, etc.
progressive band don't nessecarily have long complicated songs. they do, however, have a certain theme throughout their albums.
glassjaw doesn't, so i wouldn't really call them prog.

Having a theme is your only requirement for being "progressive"? I've never heard that before. I can see that as being one of the characteristics of the label but not the only pre-requisite for the classical definition of it. My definition of progressive comes from the root word of progress. If the band consistently tries to make more intelligent and unique music then I consider them progressive.
By your definition I'd say Glassjaw's EYEWTKAS was progressive since the album was predominately about personal relationships.

Thats what is is brilliant about them...their deepness. When I first heard EYWTKAS I was in my thrash stage and GlassJaw was too chaotic for me. but then we went on a roadtrip and that was all we had and I still never get tired of it.
Bands that i love striaght away...never end up being my favourite.
I like bands that are a challenge to like.
yeh i think I may have had this pre-conception of daryl/his vocals being too emo or whatever - I was being snobby/elitist and going through my "either listen to thrash or death metal or old school hardcore punk and nowt else" stage and when I first discovered EYWTKAS I think I shoved it on the backburner, but you later realise they're the real deal, heavy as shit in places, and now they're veterans really, nothing to do with this current crop of emo shitty pop nobodies, gJ are fucking excellent

after listening to it for a while, i gotta say its a bit dull now, its very 'cool' and very respectable in terms of metal, but it's missing something, don't think the melodic part is good enough to be that short inbetween the chugging metal. I like the guitar though yeah, really simple to play, but a lot of thought gone into the tone and delivery n the recording.

I never got Brand new tobe honest. They sound quite generic to me, and I just don't understand why they are constantly associated with bands like the JAw, Thrice and Thursday.
I see very big similarities between Thrice and Brand New actually. both come from pretty generic american skate/punk/emo but decided to evolve and create a more mature sound. their new sounds aren't that far apart either, actually.
I think a band that has released two albums in a three year span (2006 and 2009 in a month) deserves to headline over a band who has consistently shit all over their fans by destroying their image, knocking key founders out of the band, and refusing to record and release anything significant in 7 years.

I saw them back in November. A lot of Glassjaw fans said that it wasn't their best show, but I was pretty impressed. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.
I got to see them in 06 open for the Deftones in Oklahoma City. I honestly was more impressed with Glassjaw, but It wasn't the tones best performance. I've been into them ever since. Apparently the name of the new song is "All good junkies go to heaven"

Briefly, it was AWESOME (now that's a surprise), I met all of them before the show (drinking beers and hanging out at the 7/11 next door), and after too. Great funny, down to earth, nice dudes... :)
The show in itself was great, not crazy long, around 1 hour and 20 mins, but so intense that I didn't care at all !
Venue was incredibly small, it was in a small gymnasium, on a basketball pitch, it was exactly like the clip of Smells Like Teen Spirit, was so cool !
There weren't many people, probably around a hundred, but damn, what a good night it was.... :)

I think my favourite new tune is Jesus glue, but I'm really glad that natural born farmer appeared, i've been singing along to that song a lot lately. Glassjaw look to be compiling their recent string of 7″ releases for a digital EP by the name of "Our Color Green (The Singles)". According to Amazon, the effort, which has yet to be officially announced, will arrive on January 01st, 2011 and will feature the following track listing:
01 – "All Good Junkies Go To Heaven"
02 – "Jesus Glue"
03 – "Natural Born Farmer"
04 – "Stars"
05 – "You Think You're (John Fucking Lennon)"

Seriously, Stations Of The New Cross is becoming one of my favourite Glassjaw songs ever. It's so catchy and melodic, yet strangely aggressive in its vibe. I love it. A great EP and a great step for the Jaw.

I'm currently listening to Coloring Book and I think it's my eighth time today? I'm in love with this new sound--very Glassjaw, but not Glassjaw all at the same time. It's heavy and experimental. To be honest, I kind of like the fact that this EP doesn't have as much screaming as Our Color Green. This EP relies more on the music than the vocals, which is refreshing. "Gold" is my favorite song off the EP, but I have a feeling that will change in the coming days. Can't wait for a full length album. All these EPs are such a tease.
I'm loving this EP, its Glassjaw at their best IMO. Love that jazzy vibe on Black Nurse. Beck and Manny are the shit.
I saw Glassjaw last night and got my Coloring Book EP. Pretty fucking sweet concert.
They played all of Our Color Green, they did all of Coloring Book as the encore, played Siberian Kiss, Convectuoso, El Mark, and about half of W&T. Good set list that could have used a little more EYEWTKAS.
Through a few listens of Coloring Book I agree with what chickdelalynch said about it sounding like Glassjaw while not sounding like them at the same time.
Everyone in the band sounds like they are from Glassjaw and what they are playing sounds like a part from a Glassjaw song but the song itself does not sound like typical Glassjaw. This definitely sounds more like a cohesive whole than Our Color Green. I can't wait to hear more from these guys.

I've really enjoyed the coloring book ep. I saw them on March 22nd and had a good time. Maybe they weren't quite as intense as they used to be. Manny and Beck still killed it and Black Nurse sounded just as good live as any of their old shit.

According to a recent interview conducted by Kerrang!, Glassjaw aren't likely to release a new full-length album anytime soon. Instead the band are moving more towards their recent approach of EP's and digital releases with band frontman Daryl Palumbo offering the following:
"People are so hung up on us not having a full-length out that they're overlooking the fact that record labels are becoming increasingly irrelevant, that full-length records are becoming irrelevant and the whole album/tour cycle is pretty irrelevant."
He went on to add that that the group would rather "put music out as it occurs and not bore people with 15 songs"

"Gold" might be one of the most annoying songs ever.
Daryl's vocals grow on you with time, usually. If it never does, I won't blame you though. His sarcastic tone ain't for everybody.

Fuck. What a terrible performance. Nobody in the band can keep up with their own material (save the bassist). This is the sound of a band overwhelmed by their own songs. That's what you get for pro tooling the living fuck out of you songs.
I think the studio songs sound quite natural. I think it might be just a lack of rehearsing.

I remember also a fragment where they said durijah recorded the bridge to VSPoltergeist hours before being sent to replicate. What I understood is that beck writes everything, and then manny & durijah learns the material and gives it a bit of their touch ("Precise surgery"), but I guessed that It wasn't Beck who recorded everything. Do you have the source somewhere handy? i'd like to reread it.

As for the Coloring Book EP...I can understand a lotta ppl not really into it or, at the very least, thinking it's a radical change frm Worship & Tribute and EYEWTKAS, because they've always had this really raw and aggressive style, but hey, this is another band that isnt afraid to go in different directions. I love the EP, especially Daytona White, but I'd love to hear some new music frm them that gets back to their roots, so to speak.

He probably had surgery before 06 to help his condition.
My best friend has Chron's, has had 2 surgeries due to it (where they remove the inflamed portion of the intestine). The other day he mentioned he is missing about 3 feet of his small intenstine (or large I forget which).
During flare ups (which can last months or years following a period of relief), which this one to date is the worst, he is bed ridden, cannot move, and cannot sleep due to the insane amounts of pain he experiences. He lost his job due to it. He could have another surgery, but he doesn't want to be put on a bag (poop bag) by the time he's 40.
Imagine food or liquid going through a few feet of ulcerations and trying to squeeze through a swollen connective tissue junction that binds your intestines together.
No thank you.
That's only touching on the eating portion of the disease.
I'd sing like shit too if I experienced that.

All good dude! You didn't know. I believe it does spring up overnight with no warning and it is life long, there is no cure what so ever. I couldn't imagine doing any singing using my diaphragm during a flare up... it'd suck.
If Daryl's plight is anything like my friends (everyone is different)... I'm really surprised he tours at all. I just have a tremendous amount of respect for the dude, it really shows his dedication to music.

My guess is the London show I was at. They filmed it and shit, even Daryl said "Say hi to the camera, guys, it's for a DVD.".
GJ will play two Worship and Tribute anniversary shows in Long Island on July 8th. The full record from front to back will be performed at both shows. Let's hope they'll play a couple of EYEWTKAS songs as well.
They'll also play a couple of shows in Europe on August, and they'll play in South America for the first time on November.

I'm sad to see Manny and Durijah go. They were in the band for almost 10 years straight now. I'm pretty fucking skeptical about these new rhythm section scrubs too. I still can't bring myself to check out those recent live recordings up on youtube.
I'll just say this, I am as bummed out as you are but these guys are a nice fill. The bassist's got some wild headbanging going on and even though the drummer's not very good at playing Lang's "Our Color Green" stuff, he's got groove and kick. Daryl was energetic like he hasn't been in almost six years during their Atlanta performance.

Got tickets to see Coheed and Cambria and Glassjaw in February. Seen Coheed and Cambria twice already, but this'll be my first time seeing Glassjaw, so I'm extremely excited. Anyone else seeing them?

I guess they're done releasing songs like Daytona White and Stations of the New Cross, haha. I like it but I don't like how the vocals sound, how they're mixed or whatever. But I imagine it's not the finished the version. Definitely got me excited for new music though, it's been too long.
GJ played a tiny show in a London bar for 150 people as a warm up show of their tour with Coheed and Cambria.
I was one of the lucky 150. They played a first batch of old songs and closed the show with their entire upcoming new record. World premiere. I am deaf and I can't feel my legs.
All I'll say is that if you missed heavy GJ, you're going to be relieved.

I'm finding it hard not to resent you for this, haha. How did you go to that, was it advertised? Ah, I'm so depressed, it looks like I'm not going to be well enough to see them tomorrow, which sucks because I've never seen them before, so if I miss tomorrow, who knows when they'll next be playing here?

They are sounding huge. I suggest you catch them on their US run even if you're not a Coheed fan. They also have a couple headline dates on the Coheed tour days off. I'm amazed by how solid they're playing

I caught them a few weeks ago on the Coheed tour in Phoenix. They absolutely destroyed it! Daryl sounded amazing that night. His vocals were strong and his little ad-libs were on point. Not to forget Beck and the rest of the band. They had such a huge tight sound, their presence was known and appreciated. New White Extremity, Tip Your Bartender, and Pink Roses gave me goosebumps and I haven't had goosebumps since I heard Failure's new album almost a year ago.

They played 6 new songs last year and they're playing 4 newer songs on this round.
Daryl had an interview scheduled this month but cancelled it saying "No press before December". And Beck's been playing studio material to fans at meet n greets.
I think they're going to release their first LP since Worship and Tribute. Reaaaaal soon.

It's not a leak, more like someone recorded the stream and passed the recording around. It's great but it's like a handycam shot of a new great movie played at the theatre. Not worth it.
Drums were recorded with Billy Rymer (Dillinger Escape Plan), Justin Beck probably performed both bass and guitars. I miss Manny and Durijah's groove but Chad Hasty and Travis Sykes really slay it. This band was always really Daryl and Beck, just wish they'd hire a second guitarist for live shows again.

New song is out, "Shira". A couple people said they sounded like Deftones but I disagree. It's not the first time though, I heard someone compare John Fucking Lennon to Headup.

I definitely think Shira sounds like Deftones, I thought it on my first listen. Obviously not in the sense that it doesn't sound like Glassjaw, it's just got a sound that makes me think of Deftones. But I've never felt that way about their other songs. I've never managed to see Glassjaw yet, hopefully they'll come to the UK/EU soon and I can cross that off my list.
Am I seeing it right: the pre-order are either options for packages or a digital download...no option to buy a CD or just the vinyl?

I think if you heard Shira by itself you could make that comparison, with the heavy dissonant guitar sound, groove and crooning but really glassJaw has been honing in on this sound since Coloring Book. I like it, but live it doesn't always translate so well. Last time I saw them Beck's guitar just sounded awful - I knew the songs and could barely make them out. I agree, they really need to have a second guitar player to properly play their older stuff but I don't see that happening.
I am genuinely stoked to hear this album (already pre-ordered it), I really like the track so far, it will be a nice early Christmas gift :)
