I was a member at deviantArt for two years or so. But they hype certain people like stars, mostly not because they do good photographs, so it began to suck for me.. There are still many people doing great stuff, though!
I admit, there are many, how should I call it, conspiracies on deviantArt, but it still brings me pleasure to discover people who actually like what they do and they're great at that and they don't need promotion such as "daily deviation" because their quality brings them enough visitors.. hope you understood what I meant, I'm not sure if my English is good

woahhh. that's...i'm not good with words marty.
i went to this photographers exhibition [it was at his house] and he had just come back from israel around the time that there was an upsurge of suicide bombers and such and his images remind me a lot of those images. with war being the subject, it just makes it so devastadingly tragic yet you can't look away. it makes you angry and appreciative of what photography is all about. you're glad you have these magnificently shot images yet you just don't want to know these things are happening in the world. in the back of your mind you know these things are happening but not having to see these things makes it easier to just live your life without this weight hanging on your shoulders.
with war, it just makes me feel helpless because i think there is nothing i can do but in reality there is but it probably wouldn't lead or amount to anything significant. i'm so glad that these things are being documented, being with still shots like photography or moving images on film. it's a record in our time. i just love photography. it proves you don't need words to express something remarkable to another human being.

he uses a Nikon F3 and he experiments with different types of films. he's cool. i've become majorly anti-digital for a reason. i'm trying to buy myself a Nikon F80 [yes, finally decided what camera i wanted. can't tell you how difficult it was trying to decide.] my parent's think photography is a stupid career. they think i should go into political journalism because i'm so involved with it and with words themselves. i will probably want to do journalism when i'm in my late twenties. i'm pretty sure i don't need an education for that either. it's like Picasso when he said 'you don't need someone to teach you how to paint' or something like that. it just comes to you and you have to do it uniquely, the way you would do it from your mind and heart. not something taught to you like its been taught to million of others.
i'm just bitter a little because the college i want to go to charges $19,880 per year for four years for their fine arts courses. i'm applying for it though. i'm just going to go loan crazy at the bank and whoever else gives me money.

I love B&W photography so much. And Goutnik has the great advantage, of living in a place that is ideal for B&W atmospheric pictures and scenes. I envy him that. His works are very beautiful, yet they're not polished and positioned enough to make it commercial. And i really like that. It has an edge, and he's not afriad to use weird angles. a nice browse, def.
And i love my digital camera (Canon Eos 350D), but i would love to be able to do non-digital stuff. But, i don't have the time, nor patience. So i'd rather use Photoshop to regulate colours and contrast. But, i highly respect people that don't need digital equipment.
i'm better with non-digital camera's myself so i favour them best. something about putting in a film myself and having these photographs to hold instead of look at on the computer. plus i'm not so good with photoshop and photo manipulation. i'm average but i would love to know more about it. i just sort of lose interest after trying to teach myself something.

she is half immersed in water and it just adds so much depth to the photo and the underlying subjects in it. Bjork is suddenly transformed into a bigger godess. i love how it totally possessess my mind like that - how a photo, one photo, can do that.

doesn't your canon already have a flash built in the camera? i thought it did. or do you just want to get a professional better one?
i'm very mehh with flash. i don't like too much light. i'm usually attracted to dark photographs and things of the dark nature. it's not that i don't like flash, because it's really important to have them sometimes, i'm just saying i can live without them you know.

I have the 350D as well and I used my Sigma 28mm 1:18 lens for that one.

then in photoshop i added a photofilter on parts of the picture to make it feel more warm and decreased the brightness. i might have also used the filter 'Unsharp Mask', i can't really remember to be honest.
Arh, 'cause, it isn't that sharp, so it looked like a cheaper camera had been used.

buy a nikon d50 instead. it's better. and cheaper. you can buy a kilo of carrots with the money left over. y'know, if you like carrots and all. you can grate them and mix them with some mashed potato's and then add breadcrumbs and then you make little balls and fry them. or you can buy a packet of lentils and add lentils instead of the carrots. you have to soften the lentils first of course or they'll be too hard. you can soften them by boiling them in water. use clean vegetable oil. then you can recycle it if that's your thing.

I've read about Nikon, and it actually seems better, but the problem is that he's very hard to get here in Croatia... not to mention lenses (which i plan to buy as I explore photography)... you can make great shots even with the compact one... Hey neurotic, do you feel the 400d was worth forking out the extra money over the 350d?
since I didn't own 350d, i don't know. but i can tell you that if you buy 350d(at least in croatia) you get 1gb memory card for free... but with 400d i had to buy it extra.
but 400d has 10.1mpx and automatic sensor cleaning system...i think it was woth it.. it's not much more expensive anyway...

Are you mad??? If you so much as touch the sensor you'll ruin it. It's the most sensitive instrument on the camera. :) You can only use clean air which you spray with this little plastic bubble thing, I forgot the english word. :)

Are you mad??? If you so much as touch the sensor you'll ruin it. It's the most sensitive instrument on the camera. :) You can only use clean air which you spray with this little plastic bubble thing, I forgot the english word. :)

I don't understand how you can hate digital. I hate the wait with an analog camera. I want to know wether I fucked up or not, two miliseconds after i've taken a picture. I like to know that I can fire off a million shots without having to insert a new fim.
I like analog, though. It has a romantic feel to it, when processing and making a picture youself in a dark room.

I personally like analog. But, I don't have the money(or the room) to set up my own personal dark room.. but i'd love to have it one day, when I become really good at photography. Now, digital is just more economic, and great way to practice...
i don't mind digital, don't get me wrong. marty is probably walking around the room twisting his panties or something. i just prefer film. like marty said, the whole romantic aspect of processing your own film. it connects you to the photo in a full circle sort of way.
i'm just old fashioned when it comes to photo's i suppose. old fashioned towards a lot of things actually.

no, i met a photographer in cambodia when i was there. i sent him some pictures when i got home and he offered me an internship. it's only for 4 weeks though, so i don't think it will give me a job, but it's a fun thing to do.

Yeah, I actually saw this camera on a TV show called The Gadget Show here in the UK and they were giving it a lot of praise saying it's fantastic value for money, and they compared it with other cameras of a similar style and it was there overall best. Most of the reviews I've read have people giving it 5/5, 10/10 etc; I'm not a total tech head with Photography but I want a good camera to start out with and I don't really want to pay over £200 for one at the moment, so this one looks like the one I'll get

Yeah man, I've always had a keen eye for photography, but only ever had a shitty standard digi cam. When I'm out I always see things that I want to photograph. My Dad used to be really into Photography when I was a lot younger and I think his passion for it has passed on to me. I'll be sure to post photos of in here when I use it, I'm going to London in two weeks so that might be the place to start off with.

I haven't used it since May of last year. There is still a roll of film in there. I totally forgot how to use this camera. I want to finish the roll....

Yes, It's my birthday today and i am 19 (god) I got a new DigiCam too, Just what i wanted and was planning on saving for, Especially for the next NIN show i go to in the summer, I'm dead chuffed with it!
It's a Nikon CoolPix L5 7.2 Megapixel, My Mum was planning on getting me a 10 Megapixel camera but she knows i wanted it just for starters and for gigs, So this was recommended (since her boyf is a pro photographer) So yeah, Here's some pics of the tree's in my garden :D The green one is a fuckin' goliath of a tree!

Some cool pictures in there. But, it's quite difficult to keep ones attentions focused on band pic after band pic.
You colour freak, hehe. No, colour pictures are awesome, when you just tone down the colours a bit. So it doesn't loo too raw and amateur-ish.

So I woke up from a nap right now, the sun was going through my house because it is nearing sunset, so I picked up that cmaera that I haven't touched. I love the way the sun looks on hardwood floors, so I got inspired by the sun. Went outside, took a couple pics. Felt great to see beautiful things [in a not so beautiful part of the city] right outside my house. Hopefully they will come alright becuse I changed the speed after my first pic. Whoops.

It's a Zeiss. The model is called Contina. :) I don't know if it's easy to use, but you got a lot of settings to choose from.
same with my f80. there's a wide array of controls. i love it though. i took a few photos with it at a festival i went to but it was still during a period where i was trying to figure out what did what. i sort of had a clue but it was all so...manual, you know. there's so much you have to do as a picture taker. it is so much more involving and that can be scary and exciting at the same time. you're just that much more eager about how the photo will come out and then seeing the results and seeing what you did wrong and where you were successful is so rewarding.
i also decided that i would save a bit of money and cash in on a really good professional digital camera instead of wasting my money away on compact digital camera. i'm leading towards canon because i want to own a canon digital camera. the eos 400 look really good but by the time i have enough money a new model would have come out :/ fucking technology, you just can't bloody keep up. or maybe a nikon. nikon always slurps me in. bastards!
I recommend a Canon. I love my 350D. And it's ability to fit any Canon lens out there.
In the Digital Vs Analog discussion, i'm still leaning towards digital. I just don't have the patience to wait for a film to be developed, and THEN I need to scan the pictures.
I like how I can take a shitload of pictures and throw my pictures on my mac in less than 5 seconds and start to organize, alter, manipulate, et cetera.
I just borrowed an 70-200:2,8 L from work. Gonna take pictures for STCC (Swedish rally) tomorrow. This is kinda my ordeal by fire, so wish me luck.

Only got a couple due to England's notorious weather taking a turn for the worse, but I'll be going round tomorrow so I'm gonna get some more, I'm still practicing at the moment, but his garden is the perfect place for photos.
Try to think more minimalistic and to get a clean background. :) That plant is great, but the crowded background is smothering it.

Yeah, it's because i've resized them. They still have some slight grainy-ness to them at full size, But that's what is expected when you don't have the cameras the press usually turn up with lol
Here's an original sized one, as you can see it's alot clearer than the one i've resized.

^ that one i changed the colour on purpose, it's actually quite vibrant but i preferred a more epic look so that colour makes it look more epic than the original.
Despite the grainy look, i'm really proud of them..better than shitty mobile phone pictures i use to have to take haha.

i view the d70 and d40 in the same way and you know, it's all about lenses most of the time. if you have a great lens then you're set to go. you can try a d200. i'm saving up for a d200. if i succumb to a d70 then so be it. i'll be happy with it because i've heard nothing but praises about it. i prefer film camera's over digital. i'll be shooting with film for a while still. maybe next year i'll buy a digital. i should have a bit of money saved away or i can always put it on loan.
there's this rock photographer in sydney called nic bezzina. i met him at the team sleep gig because he was photographing there. most gig photographers these days are loaded with lenses and a swish digital slr. nic on the other hand only uses one camera (a film camera) and one lens. a fully manual nikon FE2 and an 85mm lens.

Yeah i thought so, Cause my first pic of Chino in blue, Is zoomed in and it looks amazing, I was soo chuffed with that, Cause it's like i'm higher up and right near him on stage.
Same case with the others.
He's got some really good photos on his site, Even his gig photos are grainy, Same with Ross Halfin... so i'm no longer fretting over that, Paint Your Lips made me panic :D
Aslong as it's a decent shot you tend not to look at the quality.
I am really happy with my camera though, It'll do for starters, I'm going to start saving up soon though and that d70 looks great!
Took some more photos today of the rapeseed fields, the yellow-ness is amazing!

my new nikkor 28-85mm lens. it's not a 28-105mm [i can't afford them right now] but it's just as good. it's a little heavy but i'm happy with it. i'm taking it out for a little spin in a day or two.

I think about getting a new cam. The canon eos 400D is quite fetching, since it has a pretty good price/performance ratio for an slr. And canon has this cashback thing going currently (til end of june). If you have the original barcode and the receipt you get back some money. (80€ in case of the 400D) Didn't we have someone with that cam here on the board?

i heard they're pretty good and her photos are great so it is good quality. buy one if you want to because if you want to buy one and you don't you'll regret it. it sells for around $2,000 here. i've seen one for cheaper though. they always get cheaper when a newer model comes out. good luck with your decision, i know how hard it is. there's so many out there but you just have to find one that your heart agrees with.
It depends on the lense, the cheapest one I found (18-55mm) is about 640€ and a double kit (18-55 and 55-200mm) is about 880€. But the prices differ a lot. There are also offers that are 200/300€ higher.
The 18-55mm is a great starter. I've used it for a year, and now I feel like i'm ready for a better lense. That's why i'm buying the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM.
make sure, if you get a big lense, that it has IS (Image Stabilization). Look it up on Wikipedia.
Okay thanks marty. What would be interesting for me is a macro lense. <3 But I think I'll start with the 'normal' one. I go and have a look tomorrow after work.
A great macro lense is one that is able to take the picture as 1-1, but those are quite expensive. I can get fairly close with the 18-55. Again, it is a great starter and overall it can be used for various situations.

these are shitty prints [they're small and not clear i.e. crappy scanner] but i like them a lot because they capture the place that i photographed. i wish that i had done more than one roll. i wish that i had not photographed these places from a moving car. i wish these photo's were a bit better but i do the suburbs like they are.

I was not shaking the camera - I just shot the reflection on a doubleglass window from the outside.

The Cat House. My parents made a house for their cats when they built their new one because they didn't want them in there anymore. The Cat House has air/heat,a tv,recliners and special made "bunk beds" for their 5/6 cats. The Cat House is also used for recreational purposes. HAHAHA! ;D ;D

That ant is on one of my favorite flowers....PEONIES! Like the train pic.
I took my daughter to this place called "Moon Creek Cemetary" to take most of these pictures today... The place has many "urban legends" about it.... the train being one of them. They say you don't want to get trapped in there by the train. I caught it on the way in... =o) Ema was freaking out because I was standing extremely close to it and it was moving. haha.. The peonies are growing like crazy out there at that cemetary. It was beautiful.
I picked one at my grandmothers today,they might not be the most beautiful flowers,but the smell...OMG! They remind me of my Nana.

its a rock in the sea, with low light (at the sunset), low ISO (100) on the camera, the photo is the result of like 10 seconds exposure, that's why it looks blurry in the sea, since its in motion.

It's another picture but with the same shutter speed. The settings were f=1,8 - ISO800 - 1/13sec. I pulled the camera down in the second shot to create the rain effect. The shutter speed was long enough (1/13) for that.

I don't think that I have a "hell of a camera". It's one of the cheapest DSLRs on the market. I just got an UltraWideAngle Lense and another cheap 50mm Lense for it.

i wouldn't consider it. i rarely crop my photos unless it's absolutely necessary. i always step back for a reason. it's the things around the subject you're photographing that can serve the real purpose within the photograph. i'm pretty sure it's a big deal that the lube next to the bed is present in the photo and should be present haha.

I actually like you don't crop your photos. Every photography class I have taken the professor tells me to crop the photo, and sometimes I don't feel it's necessary. There are certain times when it might be beneficial to do it, but cropping a photo doesn't necessarily make it any better or any prettier. Little details like the lube next to the bed makes the photograph more honest. Cropping things out is like shielding the public from the truth.

The third one has a grunge feeel, really lovely & nostalgic.
and the last one is mind relaxing. Those are some moody pictures. Have you ever done band photos, Nuno?

thanks for the comment mate, not really a direction was just shooting with the tripod and that tourist just liked the view and got caught in the act.

Awww yea! What sort of farms have turtles roaming around man? I love the 3rd one, the way you've edited it makes it look like a mutant fish, I'm guessing thats pretty hard to do!
hey Billy, thanks for the comment, its always nice to get feedback and see that people enjoy the humble stuff that i do.
its a public farm with lamas, donkeys, pigs, turtles, whatever they can get into it, kinda messy place if you ask me and the facilities are awful.
regarding the third picture, havent edited (only contrast and a bit of colour correction), its all done in camera with the Lensbaby lens, which i love, you get all these weird and akward effects.

hello thanks. i use a Canon 550D, my favourite lens is my Lensbaby Composer with its different optics (dougle glass, plastic or pinhole/zoneplate) and creative apertures (custom mades or not). a very creative lens, when sharpness isnt everything and you try to see things in a different perspective

I don't know why but those daisy photo's remind me of the be quiet and drive video. The effect is similar to those close ups of that random woman in the cut scenes.
