Pelican isn't post-rock.

More post-doom or post-metal.

"post-doom" isn't really a descriptor...sludgey post-metal fits better in my book.

EDIT: plus Pelican isn't really all that "doomy" any more.

Anyone heard of Kayo Dot? They've got a kinda post-rocky ambient thing going on. Plus a lot of other stuff. Really weird band.

Also, the other day my mom came into my room to tell me she was watching some crappy band (turned out to be The Decemberists, blech) on Austin City Limits and it said that Explosions in the Sky were gonna be on next. I was like "WTF OMFG BBQ!" and they were hell of badass. I'm still amazed that they were on TV. It may have been PBS, but still.

Kayo Dot is magnificent.

check out their previous outfit maudlin of the Well for even weirder and more out there stuff.

Yeah. I never got around to that. Maybe I will.

there is a shocking lack of ambient in this thread, despite the threads title.

i must remedy this when i get back from lunch.

in the meantime, here's my own project.

based on and inspired by thoughts, ideas and concepts found in the avant-garde novel House of Leaves.

not real artwork, just a placeholder until the packaging is fully assembled (it's going to be pretty elaborate).

the style is ambient with dark textures and sinister warmth. or something.

let me know how you like it.

can you upload it in better quality (not loseless, but 192 or higher). I just sometimes can't say if that was yuo who used distortion effect, or it's because of quality, and other  things

From what i've heard after first listen:
The First half is a little bit boring and sounds if aphex twin wrote OST to Silent Hill)) (it's not  negative, btw). Maybe i just don't like that "noisy" ambient. But maybe you should try to add some ups and downs, some transitions to the songs.

But from "I've never been to Texas" fun starts. That transition on ~1:10 is really cool, that radio-like voice suits the song perfectly. Really.
"arrow, suspended" has very good final, though it can be shorter, there're almost 3 minutes of almost nothing.  Or it's just Bad quality of mp3 doesn't give an opportunity to taste it properly.

Last song reminds me of Silent Hill a lot. Also good, though i didn't listen the whole 21-min songs, cuz my ears are tired of 128 kbps
