The Electronic Dance Music Thread

It's discussed every now and again on here and I know there are some fans, Europeans mainly. My man Gaz is a trance fan I know.  I understand it's a lot more underground in the US, but if given a chance I know some people can learn to love it rather than pass it off as some bullshit people dance to in clubs whilst outrageously high. There's actually some really great House and Techno coming from the US and has been for a long time.

When I get time I'm gonna pack this shit out with information and various mixes/individual tracks as It's a type of music I've been in love with for quite some time since I was in school and the whole late 90's Ibiza sound was essentially going global. This is no doubt gonna be a sleeper topic but I'll update it every now and again when I remember incase someone happens to drop in and feels like taking an interest.

EDIT: Over time I'll update this first post with any songs/albums etc organised by genre or artist. Anything posted in the thread I'll link to here also.

Trance

Albums:

A State Of Trance Yearmix 2005 - Armin Van Buuren - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WOW3E1LK

A state Of Trance Yearmix 2006 - Armin Van Buuren - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OX1AOPEY

^^ The idea behind these two albums is evey year the listeners of Armins radio show ASOT  will vote for their favourite tracks of the year. The best tracks are then mixed into a compilation by Armin. He only uses the main cut of each track though so they're pretty relentless and fast paced. I love the fuck out of both albums. The mixing is fucking perfect.

Beyond Euphoria - Mixed By DT8 Project - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0UN5DLEC

Delirium - Mixed By Dave Pearce - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7HWC2RIL

Paul Van Dyk - In Between - http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/-1099688132/Paul_van_Dyk-In_Between-CD-2007-LOSSLESS-iND.zip

I only listen to wierd electronic shit like Aphex Twin, Autechre and Squarepusher.

I do like Trance and Techno, despite being pretty much a n00b when it comes to quote any artist. I'm familiar with Carl Cox, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Underworld and...that's pretty much it. And Portuguese-native I sometimes club to Dj Vibe and Pete da Zouk. Open to any suggestions though.

I liked that, and also aphex twin, laid back stuff.

I'm digging it and I'll dance to it. Too bad in clubs nowadays, they play mainly hiphop and radio hits and I can't understand what is there to dance to. People just stand and sway. I always go request some Prodigy when I'm in clubs to show some mad movez yo!

Just yesterday I was listening to Tiesto's "In Search Of Sunrise(s)". Some good stuff there.

I like Squarepusher way more.

Find the song "My Red Hot Car"

It's fucking ridiculous.

Speaking of ridiculous, find the song "Gantz Graf" by Autechre.

lollercoaster

Absolutely, not a fan either, I usually just get wasted until some proper music is played. And speaking of Tiesto, he did an entire set live in my hometown, in a place near the river. Entrance was free so the place was packed, it was pretty cool :)

That is seriously one of the creepiest videos I've ever seen (the mutant kid). The dancing part was retardedly funny. Congrats on that.

Bump

Updated the first post

I'll be ripping a few more CD's today so I'll keep updating.

Deftonesaddict

this is great tonedef

thanks a ton

ToneDef

No problem man, I'm real glad you like it.

I'm ripping A CD called Resonate 2 as I type. It's a double album of Hard Trance. More hardcore than what I've posted already but a fantastic album.

Necrocetaceanbeastiality

I haven't listened to any of the stuff you've posted because I'm ore into the wierd shit like I posted. You listen to any of them?

ToneDef

I admire the more leftfield shit for it's technicality. The Aphex Twin is very respected among producers for the sounds the guy creates and his detailed knowledge on synths and how they work. He's a very very talented guy. Some of that shit doesn't fit into the category of EDM though as it's not technically 'dance' music, i.e 4/4 kick, steady rhythm, ups and downs etc. It's more Electronica stroke Ambient stroke Fucking Crazy.

Necrocetaceanbeastiality

Eh...close enough.

You ever tried dancing to Autechre's Gantz Graf? It's fun.
