Ok so first one.

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs

Year: 2004
Best track: Mouth Wooed Her

It's always hard to say which Animal Collective albums is your favourite. This album is basically two acoustic guitars with weird effects on them, percussions and lots of singing, moaning, screaming and puring from Panda Bear and Avey Tare. You won't like this album after your first listen, you really won't. But give it a couple of listens and you'll soon be whispering "kitties, kitties".

Owls - Owls

Year: 2001
Best track: Everyone is my friend

Ok. I'm no idiot. I realize not everyone is into what Tim Kinsella and his mates are doing. They use to have this band called Cap'n Jazz which was fairly accessible I guess. After that it just got more confusing. This album came out in 2001, they did one tour and after that, as with most of Tims band, they disbanded and started another one. This album has the perfect mix between twinkly melodies, out-of-tune-singing and weird time signatures. If you're gonna check one Kinsella-project, it's this. Not Joan of Arc, not Cap'n Jazz, THIS MOTHERFUCKER!

Piglet - Lava Land EP

Year: 2005
Best track: Anthropology Anthology

I know this board ain't much for math. Well, don't worry then, I wouldn't call Piglet math really. Just an interesting melodic instrumental 3-piece (that sounds like a 5-piece) with nice little hooks here and there. Only released an EP and then disbanded. A shame, but check it anyway. I added 3 unreleased tracks as well, they're not that awesome, but I spent weeks trying to find it so yeah...

Magic Man - Real Life Color

Year: 2010
Best track: Darling

It ain't rocket science. They make fun lo-fi sounding music with wonderful melodies. They recently released their debut album for free on the internet. Give this album to that indie-chick you always wanted a blowjob from, I promise she'll give it to ya. If you want it in lossless or whuteva, go to http://magicman.bandcamp.com/. Otherwise:

Male Bonding - Nothing Hurts

Year: 2010
Best track: Weird Feelings

There's a hype going on. It's called the Pitchfork-hype. You have two choices really, be a close-minded dipshit that gets offended by a website or just not give a fuck and enjoy good music. Quick beats, A D G-chord progression. All you need really.

Dude, that's prolly gonna be awesome. As long as they don't start making new songs as Cap'n Jazz though, that shit always fails. Is Tim Kinsella well known in Chicago?

ben

Tim Kinsella is from Chicago....

bright lights, big city

he's some hugely popular guy here, but you hear about him or his brother once in a while. it's still rare to hear anything from them on the radio, though.

I've only checked out Animal Collective and Owls so far. And i probably won't listen to any of them again. Well, maybe i'll give animal collective another go. It had it's moments, just not my bag really.

raynor

haha oh well, you gave it a go atleast!

Crazylegs

yeah, i'm a few songs into the piglet ep now. My favorite so far.

lostpilot

Piglet is really lovely.
Reminds me of Te' mixed with Sharks Keep Moving (pre-Minus the Bear)

Male Bonding, Piglet  and Magic Man are my favorites of the stuff listed here. Each is good in their own way.

To be honest, I've never been a great fan of Animal Collective, but this is obviously some great fun. A few weeks ago I came into my room and iTunes was still running, and I think Strawberry Jam was on. I was amazed, yet speechless because this music is so weird. In that moment I asked myself why I have their discography when I am not even a huge fan....

Owls album was pretty good musically, though I do have some problems with his vocals.

Thanks for the stuff raynor!

Checking out Piglet first, the description was too intriguing to pass. Then its time for Magic Man. Edit. Checking out Owls as well. Edit 2. Gonna check out Male Bonding as well.

Comments will appear below:

Piglet: Sounds like Volta Do Mar, though not as good. Sounds just fine anyways, wont be listening to the album again for a while though.

Magic Man: Cant get into this... Going to my "check after a couple of years" -file.

Animal Collective: Ive had Sung Tongs for a long time. Gave it a bit of another go now but still cant get into it.

Owls; was pretty cool! In all of its strange simplicity. And I did like it after the first listen, liked it alraedy from first seconds lol.

Male Bonding: Weird feelings was the best track of the album indeed, but as the album didnt really do anything for me, that doesnt say much.

With that said, Owls was really worth checking out. Also, gonna dig a bit into Tim Kinsella and check out at least Cap'n Jazz, I dont think I have done that so far.

Thanks for the suggestions! Gonna check out week 2 either later today or next week.

Sung Tongs are really good.
