To me, this album means a lot of things.  Driving late at night.  Halloween.  2004.  It's just one of many excellent albums from one of the greatest bands in the world.

I have no idea what they're saying, but the thing is, the music is too excellent to care.  Very beautiful and swirling psychedelia.

Just another good Japanese post-rock album.  In my opinion, World's End Girlfriend is far above Mono.  Mono has no identity; World's End Girlfriend is post-rock trying to switch the game up.

the greatest over-looked band of all time.

Bright Lights !..Why the fuck are you so damn awesome? Cant you be a piece of shit sometimes?

lostpilot

I have to listen to this album again. Envy is just toooooo beautiful.
I love how immensely emotional their music is.
And I have no idea what are they singing about, but I don't give a shit - it's the emotions and the beauty that counts.

Thanks for a wonderful album!

You can find the english translations to the lyrics online.  And they are really good.  Really good.

man i just cant stand the screaming with envy. the music is beautiful. but the screaming hurts my ears...
its just doesnt flow. i do enjoy some screamers, but not this, to me it ruins the music. same with isis.
ive tried, i have...

i dont know why, but for me this is much more bearable

I took on this week instead of week 3 as I noticed that the music in this week might be more suitable new music for my report writing than what Lostpilot posted. I was partly right, partly wrong. I will take on Lostpilot's week next though :)

I listened to all albums approx halfway through, except for one, you'll see which one. The ones I enjoyed will get a second spin soon, others will get it when I have time to give them another chance.

My comments on each album, in the order of listening:

Dungen: Ive known from before and really love them, theyre awesome! I woud recommend everyone to pick up Tio Bitar as well.

Yo La Tengo: I thought the music was rather fun, even intriguing, but I thought the vocals  were too weak for me. Did not enjoy the singing style or the mix at all.

The Fall: Immediately saw how The Horrors were influenced by this band on Strange House. The music was alright, but became a bit annoying after a few songs, cant really say that I liked it.

World's End Girlfriend: Was great! I did not guess from the description how it actually was a very accessible album, beautiful atmosphere, melodies, just great. Lot of fun elements in the music overall, will definitely listen again!

Envy: Started off good, was very different than the Envy I remembered that I had checked some time back. About 3 or 4 songs into it I noticed why I dont really like post-rock usually, all the songs just sounded the same to me, the screams I actually surprisingly did not hate but they sounded the same in each song as well. Still will give this band another chance at some point.

William Basinski: What can I say... I took the chance and I didnt get anything from it. Haha, you put it well when you said that it was an hour of ambient noise! I didnt believe you first but now I do.

Conclusion: Dungen is great, World's End Girlfriend was really great too, Envy I will give another chance at some point. Thanks for the recommendations!

By the way.... people, tell me if me commenting on each band/album on the album weeks is somehow annoying or makes you grin in a bad way. I have received no comment on my comments from the thread starters from the previous weeks, probably its just the fact that I am commenting on these weeks like 4 weeks after they are posted, but if not, I just want to tell it like I see it, give my opinion. I would think that people appreciate if someone comments on their music, even though it might not be all positive.

Anyways, just wanted to point that out.

Forgot to share my thoughts on your selections. So...Favorites were Dungen and World's End Girlfriend. Not to forget about Envy ( of course )

All the Footprints You've Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead got me into them, but the guitar sound on Insomniac Doze is just beautiful. Terrific live band, great experience that was.
