Meaning of "Change"?

Forgive me if this has been discussed already, but lately I've pretty much decided that "Change" is my favorite Deftones song, been listening to it a ton lately but I find myself wondering exactly what inspired it lyrically, it seems like an emotionally heavy song and has a haunting melody, and I know that Chino said something along the lines of "It spawns me from me being a complete asshole and suffering the repercussion of it by having my life taken away." How exactly was his life taken away?
