I'll watch anything by Paul Thomas Anderson.

And holy shit, Joaquin looks exactly like Daniel Day Lewis in this movie.

The year everyone thought Joaquin would win the Oscar for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, Philip Seymour Hoffman took it for his performance as Truman Capote in Capote. It's awesome seeing them together on screen. Both fantastic actors. I'm really excited for this film.

It's in wider release this weekend. Saw it last night. I feel like a simpleton, i have no idea what I watched.

It really doesn't have much to do with the cult (scientology), but moreso about the bromance of The Master and Freddie Quell. And the last scene literally (figuratively) featured Hoffman and Joaquin duking it out for the best actor oscar. I need to see it again.

Also, it's easily the funniest movie PTA has done. I was giggling like a schoolgirl out loud several times. And the most nudity I might've seen in a movie outside of a feature film of the pornographic variety.

i'd say 8/10. beautifully shot, amazing acting, but by no means is it the "new great American classic" like the commercials say. Still think it's near impossible for him to top There Will Be Blood.

I fell asleep during some of it :(. I'd like to blame the late showing and the number of drinks I had prior as the reason for me falling asleep and not the quality of the movie. That being said, it has a slow pace and kind of doesn't go anywhere. I think it might be a movie that requires multiple viewings to appreciate it. Or in my case, to full watch it.

I'm a big PTA fan, and I saw this last night.

It is quite abstract. We're given the motifs of knowledge (secrets/beliefs/food/art) and the difficulty in human ability to process everything - things either real, natural & the manmade, manufactured. Every scene either has a meal, a song, a performance, a test or a game - as well as the accompanying singing, anger, laughter etc etc. There are many scenes focusing on bodily fluids: tears, semen, spit, but strangely no blood. Visually, the film is covered in rigid lines and squares - the post WWII timeframe & its modernist aesthetic - and is accentuated against the crooked lines of nature (billowing ocean, mountainridges, great big trees).

It was also interesting that when Freddie failed to comprehend or accomplish something, he would just copy what someone else is doing.  He seems like a born follower. Also, he's alarmingly asymmetric in appearance - from top to bottom.

I don't really know what to make of all of it yet, other than I really liked it. Jonny Greenwood's score is terrific as well.
