Hey everyone, this is the second post of my song of the week series over at r/deftones and I loved the feedback from my minerva post so I figured I'd post here again to see if you guys can help me out with completing the post. Thanks in advance!

Title: My Own Summer

Album: Around The Fur

Music Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOzs1FehYOA

Fun Facts:

When asked what inspired a song that includes lyrics like "see I try to look up to the sky but my eyes burn come shove the sun aside," MORENO offered, "I'd be in the studio recording all night. I'd try to sleep during the day and I couldn't because of all the light. I ended up putting tin foil over all the windows."

As far as I can tell / find it's the earliest recorded performance of the song.

According to thedeftones.com, this was written in Seattle during the hot summer of 1997. Trapped inside of his room by the heat and sun, Chino Moreno boarded up his windows with aluminum foil and wished for "An apocalyptic-type thing" where all of the people on the streets would disappear and the sun would go away. He called this dreamworld "his own summer," which is where the song title comes from. (thanks, Sam - Champaign, IL)
/аs an addition to the song's origin/

The video features a great white shark. Chino Moreno told NME: "I paid the bill for the director to go to Australia to collect footage to put in the video. The actual sharks in the video were mechanical except the footage they Cgied in at the end."

This is the first video from Around the Fur, directed by Dean Karr. It shows the Deftones playing on some floating cages in the middle of a lake. Sharks are shown swimming underneath chomping on stuff, footage from Australia. Chino often talks about sharks, saying that there's a lot of sharks out there trying to take bite, so the sharks may be a metaphor for something. There is a shot of a pig with a crown floating in the water, which is a trademark of director, Kurtz, who likes to put pigs in his videos. And it's not a stunt pig either, it's a real, dead, pig.

I really love these threads and I'm looking forward to seing more of them.
It would be cool to make next week's thread for some song that isn't a single.

I figure I'll get the big ones out of the way since they have the most info. It's definitely not easy tracking all of this down.

I like this "song of the week" thing you're doing. I don't use Reddit but sometimes read some discussions on it. It's cool to learn new stuff about each song.

Was the "theres a lotta sharks out there tryna take a bite of something" monologue written by Cypress Hill for him to say or did he write it himself?

And I didn't know about the pig being a trademark of the director. I've always wondered about that pig. However the director's name is Dean Karr, not Kurtz. Is there any real evidence of pigs being a trademark in his other videos? All the other ones he's directed that I've seen haven't included a pig.

He wrote It I guess...

I have a feeling I remember him saying that they wrote the lines and he just had to speak them, but I can't remember where I saw that.

chi_no

On the other hand - does sound like something they would write
