There used to be a Finnish band by the name of Major Label that took its main influence from Deftones, especially on their early EPs. Unfortunately, the band has pretty much disbanded as the singer founded a new, more pop-orientated project that has become very popular.
Always (k)new: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfChF0JpK2k
Bite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2xGd0YmIQo (The female vocals at the end, quite similar to Knife Prty, are done by Eilera, a lovely French artist whose album Fusion is magnificent in case someone is interested.)

Damn, this one is pretty great. The outro riff (~3:42) to Always (K)new sounds like a straight ripoff from Passenger though, but I still loved the song.
i'm confused??

well thats you and this is me. im not saying your wrong, but it what the other people would say. its almost always this case. the bands that are your inspiration are probably gonna be more successful then that band they were influenced by. its not always like this, but in ways such as like, selling albums, it is

I love Chevelle and I love that song. I think calling it a "rip off" is a bit of a stretch.

Have we all forgotten how many songs Deftones have "ripped off" of Hum, particularly on You'd Prefer an Astronaut? Hell, the White Pony album cover is even a "rip off" of that cover.

I agree, the Chevelle song is catchier, more accessible, and more radio friendly. That's not to say Chevelle is "better," no way. But Chevelle basically took elements from Tool and Deftones and made them radio friendly and accessible to a wider audience, sort of like a Lite version if we can use a beer analogy. Maybe not as flavorful and well rounded, but still has its own merits.

Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
Coldplay - Don't Panic
Silence Is A Virus - Excite Excite
Radiohead - Permanent Daylight

I can kind of sort of see Excite Excite.... but where are you getting the influence in the rest of these? I don't see it.

exactly. I do like deftones better then Chevelle, but STPB isn't a bad song at all. actually WWN and TTOT are all pretty good albums.

These guys have directly noted Deftones as an influence. They aren't too bad either.
The breakdowns (like at 2:31) almost remind me of the ending of Diamond Eyes, it's almost identical. Or even the ending of Rosemary.

The vocals on these songs (except for Don't Panic) are similar to Chino's.

I forgot about this one:
Highspire - Until The Lights Go Down https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhc8FbDIIBU
I hate White Pony.

"I try to handle my BI like a GI, unnerved at your door" sounds a lot like Chino.

Vocals are very Chino-esque to me.

Nice. I can really sing the Headup lyrics along to it.
I hate White Pony.

In regard to Hum, I think I read Stef or Chino say in an interview they lifted their guitar tone from Hum.

Beat me to it. This entire album has a heavy Deftones influence. I listen to this album frequently. The new album has less Deftones influence but instead borrows from other genres heavily. A not a mix of genres into one sound....but more like a rap metal part, a reggae part, an emo part, a 311 style part, etc.......nothing original on either album but fun listens nonetheless.
When people whisper it makes her nervous.

At least the boys admitted to nicking some ideas from Hum. You'd Prefer An Astronaut provided the basis for the White Pony artwork as well. That's something I love about Deftones, they've turned me on (!) to so many other bands that I got into. I love that they don't stick to the one scene like most mainstream bands do.

Far - The Ghost That Kept on Haunting

Toward the middle of this song, it just turns into this hulking beast that rages on til the end. The relentless heaviness and creepy vibe, totally remind me of Deftones on songs like Finger of Death, Korea, WGTB etc. The spacey sounds toward the end are very Frank too.

deftones47

The guitar in "The Small Print" by Muse sounds Deftones-ish. Just the guitar though.

GooniesNeverSayDie

"In The Event That Everything Should Go Terribly Wrong" by Every Time I Die
It's basically a tribute.
