that i know of, there are 3 unofficial dvds. all 3 of them HAVE NOTHING TO DO with deftones and/or their label and are COMPLETELY UNAUTHORIZED

Death By Decibels (2003)

Quote from: Amazon.com Product DescriptionOn 'Deftones: Death by Decibels' we go behind the music to discover what it took for this unlikely group of friends from America's west coast to simultaneously create a new musical movement and conquer an entire generation of youths. Packed with in-depth interviews and featuring exclusive and previously unseen film footage, this documentary film takes you where the cameras never previously preyed to achieve an uncensored look at a truly legendary band. The DVD includes revealing information and previously unknown info on the band from those close to them including the original band manager, roadies and one time housemate and collaborators with the band.

Quote from: Amazon.com User ReviewI can't believe i paid for this crap but i wont be writing anything that hasn't already said about why not to buy this dvd. The background music was totally f***ed up and only pictures of the band were shown i was expecting something like on the extra stuff from their self-titled cd. Even the 'Music In High Places' dvd was better. Do yourself a favor and dont buy this dvd.

School of Brilliant Things (2006)

amazon.com didn't have a product description, but here is a review of it.

Quote from: Amazon.com User ReviewI don't know what the people who decided to produce this DVD were thinking, but School of brilliant things, in no way, has the slightest relevance to the real band or their views & opinions on their early years. This DVD consists of interviews with a bunch of people who think they're best friends with the band just cos they jammed with them or shared a flat. Like what the hell. Do yourself a favour & steer clear of s*** like this. Wait for an official DVD to come out.

The Complete Story (2007)

again, no user reviews and no product description, but i've read other places its a piece of shit too.

if i'm not mistaken, "school of brilliant things" and "death by decibels" contain the same exact content...just in different packaging.  if you're a hardcore fan, i would recommend checking one of them out.  they have some cool behind the scenes stories from personal friends of the band and past managers/label folks.  chris macias is all over the dvd too.  he writes for the sacbee and always gives the tones some nice coverage.

as others have stated, neither of them are by the band/maverick and contain no actual deftones video/audio - just interviews and maybe some pictures.  the only official dvd releases are music in high places (live in hawaii) and the bsides dvd.

Death By Decibels has no vidoes of the band or music of the band whats so ever. just pictures, vidoes and interviews of someone that was roomates with chinos brothers cousins friend that talked to chino 15 seconds of his life 20 years ago.

i still enjoyed watching 'Death By Decibels' - but this next School of brilliant things DVD just pissing me off

here is my amazon.co.uk review:

QuoteBy vadimo (London)
This release is no different from previous DVD Documentary released and titled 'Death By Decibels'. Its exactly the same DVD footage.

Now i feel like whoever produced this DVD is taking us fans for idiots. This is just excuse to make some money, except that no fan will pay £12.99 for such rubbish.

Ha.. yeah I knew what I was getting into when I bought it but at the time I wanted everything deftones related.. but I saw my friend go through the same kinda feeling when he bought that CD that had nothing but some shitty band covering deftones songs..

Before you buy these things you should read the reviews of people who already bought them. I was about to buy death by decibels a while back from amazon, but then I read the reviews and everyone said it was a waste of money. So I didn't buy it.   True story..

i have given up on an official dvd from them, & i no longer care

i now consider "music in high places: deftones live in Hawaii" their official dvd. it's pretty damn good,(Chino's voice cracks on some songs) but it's still really good. the boy's republic, knife prty, & bqad turned out great, feiticiara is near perfect as well, atf headup & one weak are solid as well(just a few cracks), now... change, & digital bath electric stuff is rough(but Chino was sick). "but rock aint about doing everything perfect, it's about stickin it to the man". he got his ass out there sick & still tore it up. i think they should have just put the entire acoutics of change & digital bath, since the electric versions turned out so bad, or at least had the full acoustics in the bonus footage. but, ya gotta dig the scenery, location footage, interviews, bonus stuff etc, it's a solid dvd. 51 min for the feature, & about 80 mins of deftones stuff in the if you add the bonus stuff. realising an official dvd may never happen makes me appreciate this dvd that much more. so if live in hawaii is all we ever get, so be it, at least it's 1 dvd (cause that dog crap excuse for a dvd that came with b-sides & rarities was a joke. that doesnt count at all)
