Johnny Rotten, fucking Sid V....
I just watched a doc on them, you know Sid could not play the bass..... His bass lines were pre-recorded and played live over dubbed during shows.... This is coming from Johnny Rotten... I knew it, all these years, fuck I hate them.... Jello Biafra is the real, and only, true enlightened person... (Dead Kennedys)
What do you think of the sex pistols.... Fuck them.... They were pop music, a business, cheap tricks and fake talk....
boys band.
never liked Sex Pistols much but Johnny Rotten's other band, Public Image Ltd., is great.
fuck you all!! jk
i was never big on the sex pistols
i luv Sex Pistols
not among my favorites but i listen to it from time to time and enjoy it a lot
I never got into their music. I do love punk and grew up on it. I just can believe all these years it was just an act... Fucking brtis... (I have a UK passport because my dad is from London, so I was joking.)
they suck(ed)
you really didnt knwo it was all an act? has anyone seen the great rock n roll swindle? its hilarious! sure 98% of its made up, but still. the fact they (or malcolm mclaren) made a bunch of money without ever recording a song for all these record labels is awesome. i always enjoyed the pistols, cause they were a joke and knew it but people still bought in. besides, bodies is a great song. so dancing on the dole
I never paid attention to sex pistols, that's why I never saw the act....
To Johnny Rotten punk is spitting in public places... He really annoys the shit out of me...
If you think the Sex Pistols had anything to do with musical prowess or skill your really forming an opinion based on lack of knowledge.
You could've just called me ignorant...
i kinda like them xcept syd.

Exactly, technically they were shit, it was more to do with the style/swagger/whatever and influence they had on other bands. It could be said about someone like Nirvana, though to be fair I think Nirvana were way more proficient than many on the first wave of punk bands.

But I don't think you are as I pretty much agree, they were a pretty shit band, heck even the members agree they were shit and played 99% of their shows totally wasted and sounded like crap but it was never about the music.
It was about the attitude.
True...
The attitude was them selling themselves...
Oh yeah, what prompted this thread is the song by Mogwai called Punk Rock. In the back ground you hear Iggy Pop trying to sound intelligent, however he is just a wasted dumb fuck. Don't take it the wrong way, he is somewhat bright, however if you listen to the interview or track you can tell he was just trying to sound smart... Just like the sex pistols... They only answered questions they believed they could sound enlightened... Otherwise the answer yas, fuck off you bloody wanker.
Excuse the grammer and spelling, I'm in a rush.

How did you know!? :)
i listened to them for like a month when i was 13. then i realized they sucked.
You all are on a deftones forum. No one expects you to like a legendary band like the sex pistols.

Uh, what, please rewrite, I cannot understand what the hell you're talking about.
You all listen to shitty music.
Hey welcome to the early eighties, topic starter. You found something out we already knew.
The REAL punk band was the Clash. Listen to their records and be amazed.
I'd have to chuck the Ramones in there.
Ramones, sure, if thats your style. I dont dig them that much but I can see what they achieved.

Sorry I didn't contact you before I started this thread...
The Clash were great... Pre-punk imo.

You had me laughing about that contact part. Served me right, I thought.
Then you call Clash pre-punk, even though they started when Sex Pistols got big and the Ramones were already world famous.
Ehhh....
They didn't call themselves punk...

They didn't, you are correct, but calling them pre-punk is just wrong. Sex Pistols and Ramones came before them.
Also, as far as this thread came to general punk discussion, i must also mention Television. Another outstanding band of gold punk era. Also, they are not stricly punk rock, they are closer to something prog. But still, historically they belong to punk rock scene. Their Marquee Moon is brilliant (get 2003 remaster version to feel it).
And The Clash. Yea, this band is amazing. As i said in other thread, they are more experimental rather than punk, imho. Especially their later stuff.
Btw, i'm watching their Rude Boy DVD now. Amazing.
OK, I don't know shit about the Clash (just know Should I Stay Or Should I Go... :-\ ).
Someone give me an advice about which album to start with please ?
Thanks vm in advance.
I'd recommend Combat Rock. Best later Clash.
Though London Calling is consedered to be their most successful album.
Also Give'em enough Rope, if you want some more punk

Hey, I dont care about a label either but you started with the whole pre-punk stuff, which was just wrong. Don't be a bitch about it when in the end you are wrong and you just blame it on someone else. That just makes you look dumb.
Anyway, I'd recommend starting with London Calling. There are some fantastic remastered versions out there that'll make hearing this record the best. It's also their most complete record. I love the successor, Sandanista!, to death, but it has so many songs that it's not for everyone.
sex pistols suck ass.

I thought I told you to shut the fuck up. :)
Yeah...
Dillinger Escape Plan are pre-mathcore but everyone stfu about it cause I don't wanna hear I got my facts screwed up either!
Mathcore? Fuck, I must be getting old...
:)
punk yall
okay, punk is a lifestyle, not just music... and the sex pistols changed uk. not that i care, but like nirvana, they didn't just come and go. they came, did something, then went.
musically, most punk bands aren't really super-talented. if they wrote their own songs, which they did, they have my respect.
and hey, it's not like chi can play bass better than any one of us... it's about writing the basslines...
