If any of you are wondering who Mac Lethal is, he's an underground rapper. Uh, anyway, he namechecks Deftones in one of his songs:

He also has some choice words for Tool.
pretty decent actually
and lolz @ tool, it's true
Damn great song.
i think its cool that a rapper likes alt metal. this guy looks kindof like Benji madden with a shaved head. he's pretty cool though.
i liked the thing he said about tool, was really clever the way he worded it .. made me lol
cool! :D
wu tang forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, but he's not the only one. murs said several times, how much he's a fan of the deftones, always going to concerts and everything. on the cover of one felt-album he also wears a shirt of them
i agree with the tool things...all albums are the same shit...
wilco is great
that was really unexpected
that was awsome the whole tool thing

Murs is coo, I saw him do a lil tribute for Sublime during one of his shows and he sung What I got with the crowd.
Kool Keith also is into Deftones, of course B-Real, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Rza, I'm pretty sure El-P is into them.
Never liked Mac Lethal..he's a lil cawhgk suqr

murs is indeed a cool guy, once saw an interview where he said, that on almost every album he's making hidden references to the tones in ways that are not easy to understand. must look,/hear for that... and yeah, that would fit to El-P. people who make good music also listen to good stuff. and he works with many guys i would never think of before. such as alec empire, mars volta etc. all the guys at def jux are really open musically. cage is collaborating with some girls (!!) for his next album. although i dont really know what to expect of that, hehe.
and to mac lethal, he's not bad, i would say, but nothing really outstanding. there are better guys at rhymesayers such as grayskul, brother ali and of course ATMOSPHERE . they even have covered sober by tool and some nirvana song at their live shows some years ago...
that was great
i gotta disagree with the tool statement, i think each one of their albums is different. i think any deaf person could hear that...
It really depends on how discerning of a music listener one is which determines whether or not Tool's albums sound the same. I recognize that all the main ingredients are the same but I discern the difference between tonalities, tempos, attitudes and all the other components. Some people will listen to Undertow and Around The Fur and say that its the exact same music. Just because its comprised of the same four instruments and have similar attitudes in the more aggressive numbers but fans of the music will hear the difference because we're paying more attention to it.
The casual naysayer of modern rock music will write it off and say its all the same but that's because they're just not touched by the style.
Deftones albums are definitely much more the same old thing than Tool albums. a new Deftones album is a lot more predictable than a new Tool album. Deftones have written many songs using the exact same formula (the good old soft guitar intro, slow tempo, screaming in chorus, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-break-chorus structure for example). so just because you have bad taste or are too dumb to wrap your head around Tool's music, don't talk shit.

he namechecks Deftones in one of his songs:
So does Fred Durst.
Yeah, but who gives a fuck about him?
