Stevie Nicks,Debbie Harry,Heart,Etta James,Annie Lennox,Tina Turner...there are many great women voices. BUT,with that said, I am partial to male singers.

The only female singers I can think of that I enjoy are PJ Harvey and Janis Joplin.

yeah, but only the sister sings. the brother doesn't sing at all.

best singer ever: Mike Patton
then we have Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, Darroh Sudderth...

so no, I don't agree with female singers being the best. I don't think you can really compare though. there are situations when I'd rather hear a female singer because it suits the music and the mood better. but other than it's just a matter of taste.

im not trying to be an ass, but mike patton?!?

i mean he does some pretty nifty things with making noises spew from his mouth... but best singer ever??

i dont think we can even say who the "best" singer is. there are bushmen that could make a fool out of most. technically speaking, some singers are far better than most of what end up in the bands we listen to.
there's just so many ways to interperet sound too. so i guess it ultimately is opinion... reality is an opinion, and a designer's trend finger

Wow...we never agree but I totally fucking agree with you about this...MIKE PATTON? Buwahahaha  I'll give ya Chris Cornell...the guy has some pipes. Eddie Vedder I disagree with,Scott is teh secks and Layne, well I loved that dude. Dave Gahan,to me,is the best male singer. Prince is pretty bad ass to because his voice can reach soo many levels.

PJ Harvey sucks eggs dude. And Janis was more of a yeller than a singer.

::)

Mike Patton: The most versatile, original and skilled vocalist living today. FACT. Name someone else who's able to do what he can do with his voice. And no, I'm not talking about that lame live vid of him making weird noises. If you listen to the various bands and projects he's been involved in, you'll notice how much he's capeable of doing. Crooning, falsetto, growling, rapping, chanting, beatboxing, scatting...you name it.

PJ Harvey: One of the most original and interesting female singers. Her catalogue of music is as versatile as it gets.

Janis Joplin: Again, no one sounded like her. She didn't yell, she just had her own style. Check out her live vids and you'll see what I mean.

I gave you and example....PRINCE! Learn about him before you go thinking MIKE PATTON is a musical god.  ;D

And I owned every PJ Harvey album, then later deleted them cause I found her voice quite annoying.

as much as i donty like prince or his music so much for that matter, i do wholeheartedly agree that he is an amazingly talented singer, and a major proponent to modernb music and how it has been shaped today

get the fuck outta here, you serious? i mean, i know it all comes down to personal taste, but best singer ever? no fucking way man
oh and
QuoteThey started working together as The
Knife in the summer of 1999. Karin writes the lyrics and they do the music together. Both of them sing, but Karin does the most of the lead vocals, often using a voice transformer to be able to change the sound/gender of her voice in the songs.

I'm actually one of those people who believe in personal tastes and doesn't laugh at others tastes and try to point out that they're wrong, so I'm not even going to argue. I think Mike Patton is the best singer I've ever heard. maybe not the most skilled, but I have never ever heard another voice I like so much. and that's what I consider "best".

and lithium, ok sorry about that, I was wrong. it's just a common misconception that the brother sings all the deep male-ish voices, but it's usually Karin singing that too. to be honest, I can't think of one single song where he sings. but I'm sure I've just missed it.
