All I have to say is the guest appearances sound so awesome. It's an ingenious concept and I look forward to hearing it.
I've never been able to get into the "barking" vocals. It annoys the shit out of me. The music itself is great though.
I crave the new album badly ! I can't wait. Can't wait to play the vinyl for the first time.
cant wait for the new shit. and so many interesting guests...
the vocals are one of the best parts. NO ONE sounds like Bannon.
Definitely, ben. This will be an interesting album. It is normal to see the occasional guest on a hardcore/metal album, but to bring in entire bands, and enough guests to fill up the album? It could revolutionary, or it could be awkward. But I'm leaning toward the former just because of fucking Genghis Tron.
Converge will always have a place in my top few favorite, most influential bands of all time.
And I agree with Ben, Bannon is awesome because of his vocal approach. Have you ever tried to match the vocals with the lyrics on Jane Doe? You can't. I love it.
Damn, just listened to their new song Dark Horse. Sounds totally different from their other stuff...especially vocally. Kickass song, I must say.
EDIT: Anyone got "Dark Horse" as mp3? Wow, this song is so good.
He uses those vocals a lot in You Fail Me and sometimes in No Heroes. You should re-listen to those albums, they seriously are wonderful.
I think I might do that then.
Dark Horse is almost as good as Fault And Fracture and Eagles Become Vultures. almost.
maybe you can rip it yourself from youtube somehow?

anyways, yes, it sounds great. 8)
Very few can make such killer riffs like kurt. He never seizes to amaze me.
Dark Horse is perfect. Can't wait to hear the album in its entirety.

This song is seriously blowing my mind.
The instrumental side is beyond perfection, but I hope Bannon gets some more high pitched screams in the mix on the rest of the albums. And I'm kinda afraid that the whole collaboration idea could break the album. But, we'll just have to wait and see. It worked wonders on Grim Heart/Black Rose with Jonah, though
Thanks for the link.
yeeeeah theis! way to take initiative! thanks buddy
pure volume has a super high quality version. I've had it on repeat for two days straight.

are you sure this is legit? because this album is so fucking good IT JUST CANT BE REAL!
ok, seriously, i love this album and i think it may become my top converge album very soon.
seems like they have thrown alot of riffage into the mix - more than usual - and it makes up for a crazy addictive sound.
from the beginning to the end there is not a single bad or boring part. track 12 sounds like neurosis and track 13 sounds like genghis tron. what more can you ask for?
to make it short: my album of the year
someone needs to up this in mediafire. deposit files is garbage.

and HOLY SHIT! after 3 tracks, I'm in love with this.
Can't wait to listen to the new converge.
Just wow. Great cd. the 2 slower tracks at the end of the album might even be my favorite songs.
Absolutely insane album. I'm almost feeling out of breath just by listening to it.
Like being thrown into the eye of the storm.
omg it really is mindblowing.
Axe to Fall is, I won't say a letdown, but it's definately a weak effort, imho. I would love to have heard a new Converge album without any dodgy collaborations and horrible guitar solos. They could've done so much better on their own. Maybe explored a new sound.
With that said, I've only heard the album 5 times, so I hope it'll grow on me.
I think the solos are the best thing about this album.

Solos are a waste of album space. It doesn't add anything to the songs, it's just unnessesary playtime. Just horrible. Death to solos.

Wow, I never actually encountered anyone who hated solos. Weird.
What about classic bands like Zeppelin, Floyd, The Who? Do you hate their solos as well?

I enjoy Colors a lot. Thank god they didn't drown that album in solos as they did with Alaska. Solos doesn't add emotion, feeling, energy, not a goddamn thing, it's just a poor excuse for a guitar player to have fun.
And Converge is a selfproclaimed punk rock band, why on earth would they include solos, that's got nothing to do with punk ! They'll never top Jane Doe if they don't push themselves.

they DID push themselves, you just dont like the direction its going ;)
in some interview kurt stated that they recently were influenced alot by progressive metal, and that they wanted to implement this on the new record.
i can understand that the "energy" of their earlier punkish records doesnt come across this way, i think thats what you`re missing.
axe to fall is like their "easy listening" album :D
Spot on, Alvar. I miss the fury and the chaos. Progressive metal my ass. :-)
First 4 tracks are killer. The rest is forgettable. Should have stuck with that energy.
If anything, the album is a throwback to the Converge of the 1990s. Pretty cool record, but I definitely prefer the last three albums because each one is so brutal. You guys will probably laugh at me, but my second favorite track is Cruel Bloom. fuckin Neurosis, yeaaaaaa
I also prefer the new Doomriders to this, but that album is exceptional and it's not because Axe to Fall is inadequate.

Phoenix in Flight > Cruel Bloom. Even the slower songs were better in the "old days". Way more feeling to it, you can really sense his broken heart and anger / sadness.

Because being punk means you can do whatever the fuck you want, and that includes doing solos.
I haven't found anything to complain about on Axe to Fall. I'm liking it all. Maybe my opinion will change after more listens, maybe not.
Great new CD I've been listening to it since it came out
I LOVE their last album. Sure, it sounds easier to listen to compared to their previous work, but I don't see that as a bad thing at all, and I still really enjoy what I'm hearing....
Just began recording for their upcoming eighth studio album 'All We Love We Leave Behind'

Converge - "Aimless Arrow" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrcY9I-BbjM#ws)
That tour with Touché Amoré, A Storm Of Light and The Secret is gonna be crazy good.
Honestly I can't remember a concert I've been to which had a better line-up. Fuck me
Whoa didn't know about that tour lineup. I love The Secret. But yeah bitchin' tour, bitchin' new song. Can't wait for this to drop.

I'd prefer the US line-up with Kvelertak, Torche and Nails.
I don't really know any of the bands on the EU line-up...but yeah, I'll probably go to the show.
I think I'm gonna go. Kvelerak and Torche along with Converge is a killer combo. But I'm kinda jealous of you guys. The Secret never come to the US. I would love to see them live.
I remember in the past I always admired you Americans for the great tours and line-ups you were getting.
Whenever I checked theprp and saw yet another sweet North America tour I was like "bring this to us and I'm happy". And they obviously never did.
However, that US tour is great, too, but there is no way I would change it for what we're getting here. Not this time ;)

This record is nice, a real masterpiece. And I didn't even like or understood converge until Axe to fall.
"Coral Blue" is bliss. And even the bonus tracks on this album are stellar.

Well I can't, but new music. THAT is some fantastic news. Been awhile since I indulged in listening to some Converge.

So much talent, they can be so brutal and then so fucking atmospheric.
Go watch it on youtube
"The Dusk In Us" is immense.
This album kind of crept up on me, I was vaguely aware they were recording awhile back, but just forgot about it.
But having listened to The Dusk In Us, I should be ashamed. Converge is just one of those rare bands that just cannot put out a bad, or even mediocre album.

Me too. Totally forgot about it. Sounds great! These guys have a rare ability to give me riff-induced goosebumps.
Ben Koller, though..
He never ceases to amaze me.
Hmm. Nothing impressive musically, cant understand the fuss over them. converge has pretty average lyrics
, I just think a lot of their lyrics are written like an angsty 13 year old kid's journal,
"And I surrender to it all
Between you and me, I surrender to you
Forgive me for the sadness
And the bringing of you down
I just needed a lover and I needed a friend
And there you were
Running from forever like all the rest
Three simple words bled me dry
Three simple word bled us dry, bled us dry
I love you"
Kind of reminds me of an a high school kids poetry collection ...

Yep. Them, Deftones, Every Time I Die, Tool (although it's been ages)... you just know, worst case scenario, it's still going to be good.
I fucking love this record. It might even be top five of the year.
'Trigger' is one of my favorites at the moment. That bass line.
Enjoyed this one more than their last release, not that there was anything wrong with it either.
