Title: Boards Of Canada
Post by: Fireal1222 on Dec 10, 2009, 10:15 PM
Who listens to them?

And if you do listen to them, do you have any information on them. I've read up on them for years, but they remain pretty mysterious.

There music takes me to a place deep within my soul.

My favorite work has to be Campfire Headphase

from some blog;

Boards of Canada is an electronic music duo from Edinburgh, Scotland, composed of brothers Michael Sandison (b. 10 June 1969) and Marcus Eoin Sandison (b. 21 September 1970). They have released a number of works, most notably Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi, with little advertising and few interviews - like many of their label-mates on the pioneering electronic music label Warp.Boards of Canada have had an enormous influence on the ambient, downtempo and IDM scenes. They have frequently made reference to the warm, scratchy, artificial sounds of 1970s television. Indeed, the Sandison brothers admit to being inspired by the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which they take their name.

what drives me away from Boards of Canada is it's.. well, lack of emotion I could say.
I find that only Davyan Cowboy has some sort of an emotional package with it.

I loved Music Has a Right to Children for the variety of sounds, basic skills of electronica (and I loved going tripping with this album).

so what album should I go with to find the more-emotional stuff kinda.. if you catch my drift

Try out In a Beautiful Place Out In the Country and Geogaddi. Those are probably your remaining options if you want some "emotion". How dare you look for that in music.  ;)

Really excited for this release. Not sure exactly what I'm going to order. Vinyl is a given, I also want a t-shirt, but as for the CD, I'm torn. I might get it as well, but I don't really feel like making a HUGE order, when I have other releases I want to get this month as well.

I remember I used to listen to Boards of Canada a lot back in 2008-2009. I am actually excited for Tomorrow's Harvest and can't wait till it comes out! I bet will be great!

And my current favorite album from them is Music Has the Right to Children.

boards of canada over the last 5 years have become my favorite band.

with this new album, the way they did the whole "secret code" thing to find the release date, was one of the coolest ideas ive ever heard of, or could have possibly imagined

i would have died on the spot if i found one of the secret vinyls they released with number codes. i also would have freaked out if i saw there number code advertisement play on adult swim a few weeks back

here is a rundown on what im talking about, for those of you who may not know.

Yeah that whole "event" (or what you want to call it) was pretty weird, and amusing to follow. I got some giggles from the people who did the most insane things, like someone driving out in the middle of the desert to look for clues. I don't remember if he found anything, but still gave me a smile. That's a lot of devotion.  ;D

Really excited for this album. A lot of people are hyping the new Daft Punk at the moment, that one is great (though not mindblowing), but I feel like the new Boards of Canada will blow it away.

I really liked the second half or so of Reach for the Dead.  It's subtle and slow, yet has an oddly powerful feel.  And there's a couple other ones that are pretty good and some parts that are decent, but overall this album is boring with a capital BORING.  Some parts totally remind me of a mid '80's movie soundtrack, particularly The Terminator and RoboCop or something.

There's some ambient music I like a lot but this doesn't do it for me.  Silent Hill music which is done by Akira Yamaoka OWNS this.

hi5,  bewareofrats.

I know it's BoC and it's supposed to be this way, but come on.
how could a band that made Dayvan Cowboy and made such intense anticipation for the album release such a meh compilation?
And just because of the hype all of you who love the album will say "oh snap you just don't get it", but I think this album is wayyyy overhyped and pretty mediocre.

Geogaddi > Music Has the Right > Harvest

and yes, the video was nice and quite blissful. and yes, I sense some more contemporary (funny how this term has to describe music of a couple past years as "contemporary") music influences but still a snoozefest

Post by: Geogaddii on Jun 13, 2013, 06:27 AM
Honestly it took me about 5 go arounds with it to truly appreciate it. I think its a very good mix of the old mixtapes and the albums we know as geogaddi and CH.
