hey all, (crying tears of joy!!!!)
chi did it again! he grabbed for his bedrail and succeeded and is holding on still! this is such great news!!! i talked to the new docs today and we discussed one of the medications chi is on that controls his episodes (he hasn't had one for a long while since he has been home) and they told me they would be taking him off of that and had a better solution.. ironically enough this is the med that momma j had cut in 1/2 the other day when he first grabbed for the bedrail... and she cut it in 1/2 again today! here is a pic of him grabbing for the bedrail tonight.. and also momma j wanted to share some pics of chi too. the one with chi and momma j you can see chi trying to open his left eye... sweet progress. give thanks! and keep those blessings coming! love and happy holidays to you all our sweet one love family!
P.S. is it just me or does our brother look 10 years younger? he doesn't have a wrinkle on his face!

I really don't like Chi looking in that conditions :( fuck.
It's a progress tough. Mrry xmas to the Cheng family and happy new year for all of them... let's hope 2010 will be a great year for chi!.

Same here....it makes me feel sick to my stomach seeing him like that. :( It's one thing when you hear all the updates and whatnot, but when you see an actual pictures it makes it soo much more....real I guess you could say. :(
He's lost a lot of weight, understandably.
This bloke sure can fight!
Yeah... I feel both emotions too: joy and sadness!
But i think that if his family wants to share this picture with us, it's because it's the greatest news since the accident, right???
So, c'mon, let's share this joy all together and send it right to Chi's heart!
You know, at the beginning of a deftones show, when all the lights switch off and we start screaming like mad men, that's what i'd like to do when i look at this picture!
C'MON CHI! KEEP FIGHTING!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!
oh man.. i hope he's alright with people letting these private pictures out over the internet.but, he looks quite good for being in a horrible car crash... and im glad that he's making progress..but at the same time he sees pretty out of it and that makes me sad.
anyway.. hope he will be able to grab a bass insted of a bed in the future. well.... putting his arms around his family maybe is a priority
Missing you terribly.
this is a picture...a real image of the situation. it´s pretty hard.
let´s think in the good news. GO CHENG! we all love you!
I admit that it's hard to see him like that, especially since we know that it's been so long since the accident, but I'm really happy for him and his family if he's progressing out of his coma.
That picture tears my heart right open. I hope Chi continues fighting and progressing. He has proven he's a hell of a lot stronger of a guy than I am. You're looking good Chi, just keep it up man.
Much respect,
-Matt
Progess is good but I worry he may suffer from some sort of brain damage. :-\
Hoping for the best though. Fight on man!
GODshare
man that really tears me up his tattoo says home like he wants to go home but he lost his house... man be thankful for what you have cause i mean hes a rock star and hes lost it all except for his fans i hope he knows hes really loved
Get well Chi
I really dont like that pic....its kinda scary
BUT GO CHI GO!!!!
Its sad to see him in this state but miracles do happen. Lets keep positive thoughts coming and hope for the best!! Go Chi!!!
sad but joyful.
That's it, really great news, even when the picture shows the reality...
let's hope the man could get through this!
GO CHI!!! GOO!!!!
This was already available in the oneloveforchi thread
Yes, exactly I was hoping for some big news but....
Damn, that picture is depressing on so many levels. :(
Glad to hear he's progressing though.
i think it's kind of crap for these pictures to be posted on the internet. he's in a position of weakness and i don't believe these pictures serve any real purpose. if chi was completely cool with these pictures being taken and distributed online then hey, i would be okay with it because he's okay with it, but that photo makes me both depressed and mad.

I think his family decided to post these to show his strength, not his weakness. The man has been in a coma for over a year now and he continues to fight and progress, he's a hero in that regard. If you focus on the strength it took him to be able to grip that railing, and the strength it must take his family and friends to sit by his side and smile the way they are for over a year now, those pictures might not anger you as much. Either way, it was his families decision, and it is done, so you might as well try to look at it positively.
Much respect,
-Matt
wow...he does look alot younger!...go chi!
this is awesome. : ) I agree with some others of the privacy issue regarding the picture, but it should be seen positively. The family was obviously comfortable with posting it up so there should be no worries. Wake up Chi! ;)

did his family get his permission to post these photos? that's what i'm saying. they could have waited till he was a bit better because these photos don't show his strength at all. it's progress, but look at him. he's still weak because like you said, he's been in a coma for over a year. they could have issued a statement saying that he's now able to grip his bed railing and that would have been enough. chi proved his strength by surviving the accident and having the will to hold on. that in itself is what makes him a hero. i accept that it was his family's decision, but i don't have to agree with it nor like it.
The picture was on OneLoveForChi.com.. which I believe his mother or aunt posted the picture to.

ah get off ya high-horse!
It's fine. I know you don't have to agree or like it but what does it matter? It's all support for Chi. Dispite the reality in the photo, it's great to see the main thing that's happened in it - the bedrail grabbing (as in - a bit of progress).
They were taken from the Oneloveforchi site anyways.
I'm surprised by these reactions...
I think he looks great, definitely better than what I had visualized he would look like at this point.
Speculating on whether he would want these photos posted is pointless...these are coming directly from his family. The people that fight with him and bath him and take care of him. They obviously are encouraged by his progress, and they have every right to share their joy.
It's silly to whine about it being "old news" just cuz it's from the other site...this is a deftones forum and not everyone goes to oneloveforchi daily, so this is incredibly relevant. It's no different than Vesanic cut n pasting everything that is posted on twitter.
This is supposed to be incredibly positive...save your negativity for something more deserving of it.

vesanic likes attention and when people comment a lot on his threads.also..he hates pulkazone,so when pulkazone get a lot of reads v gets mad.thats what his reactionis all about.not so appropriate to yell about that shit in this particular thread

this is awesome. stop cryin already drama queens. what weakness, creepy or sad for? jesus... this shows strenght and life, the guy looks awesome. hence they post these photos. go rape a dogg please pussies.
Glad to know hes still getting better and better..
2010 will be the year.
hey all,
i know chi looks pretty out of it here cuz his eyes are closed.. but you have to understand that there are meds he has to take to help control these episodes he has.. and they can be pretty sedating. i have pics of him when he is sitting up eyes wide open as well and he looks great. it has been quite a journey and it isn't over yet... but one thing is for sure.. this is progress! i think he looks great. if his eyes were open in this picture would you have the same reaction blix?
Quote from: blixa on Dec 30, 2009, 12:43 PM

and blix.... one thing you can be certain of is that not one thing that is decided on chi's behalf is done without a huge amount of consideration, love and thought. chi's mom, jeanne, would never even consider posting pictures that she knows would upset chi later... and she knows him very well.
i think the pictures in no way represent weakness... i think they represent an incredible amount of strength and fight... and absolutely give his fans a realistic idea of where he is at in his recovery. i think it is needed that people understand this. there are people who have emailed me saying "that is great.. you are almost at your $100K goal. and ya it is GREAT, awesome! but also not realistic to think that is all he will need. chi's recovery will take much more. he isn't going to just bling his eyes open one day and say "hey wtf happened??" like they do in the movies. the docs i have coming in to see him (with the 84% success rate) to start this new protocol can easily go up to $10K - $15K a month at a minimum. and that doesn't even cover his other needs like speech, physical and occupational therapy, etc. so when i do reach my $100K goal.. i am not stopping there in my fundraising efforts. i will keep going as long as chi needs me.
so anyway.. this is reality.
thanks to all of you that continue to support and love chi thru his recovery journey... it is going to make one hell of a book for chi to write.
one love for chi,
gina
thank you gina.
send him love...from Portugal.
How bout everyone stops posting about how sad this picture is and how much it's depressing you and you feel it's a bad omen. If you don't have positive thoughts to send to Chi then don't post anything. And BTW let's all remember that no matter how sad seeing this picture may make US feel, CHI is the one who's IN A COMA, and HIM PERSONALLY, HIS FAMILY and close friends are way more affected by this whole situation than pretty much any of us could ever imagine. People on the internet whining about how much this upsets THEM really cheapens the whole situation. I know it's scary to see him like that, and that we all care a lot about him, but we can't dwell on the negative. We must be positive and strong for Chi.

ya positivity and strength is the best energy to be putting out for chi... that would serve him the best.. that is for sure.
i will be visiting him the 14th-18th... looking forward to hanging out with him and his awesome family.
and just to clarify.. it isn't a "coma" that he is classified as being in... he is "minimally conscious".

I'm disgusted that Gina had to read some of those posts...

Cuz 2010 will mark the return of our man, Chi.

no worries nathan. actually when chi's mom told me she wanted to go ahead and post the pics i warned her that there would be people that may say stuff that may be negative or not in agreement of posting the pics... her response was something along the lines of.. "why would they say something negative??" she was shocked that anyone would ever have a negative thing to say.
but ya.. i agree with you. 2010 will be a great year for chi. full of progress! i can't wait to see him in about a week. if anyone has any messages they want me to read to him when i am there just send them to me thru the one love site.

Gina, I just wanted to say your work brings tears to my eyes. Thank you from the bottom of my fucking little heart. I feel like you have brought far more awareness to helping Chi than even the band has, and for that you are forever in my thoughts.
I agree, i just dont like to be so repetetive, but you are doing a great job, I think a lot of people would of quit or slowed down, much respect to you G-dog ;) :P

aww.. thanks :) appreciate your kind words. i guess myself being a stubborn ass is paying off these days.. going to have to let my mom know about that.. haha.. considering she was always bitching about me being soo stubborn. ;D
nah but seriously.. there is no way i can let up or slow down... chi is still fighting every minute of every day.. and THAT is what motivates the hell out of me to keep thinking "what else can i do to help???" as chi's brother ming always tells me.. "we can sleep when we're dead!"
i just want chi back and recovered - and it's going to happen!! you know that right?
i will keep you guys posted on my trip to cali and the benefit.. are any of you guys going to be able to make it to the benefit??
