Can anyone verify if Deftones will be at the Las Palmas Race Track in Mission, Texas? They haven't been in the Valley since their incident with a newspaper reporter. It says so on theprp.com and on sevendust.com. But i can't verify it on the deftones.com website. Can anyone help???
Will Deftones be playing in Mission, Texas on March 22 (with Sevendust, Drowning Pool)? It says so on the Sevendust website, but I did not see anything on the Deftones website. Can anyone please find out?
Quick search on google pulled this up from Drownking Pool website.
"Monday, March 22, 2010 at 08:05 PM. Presale: TBA. This show is also scheduled to feature Deftones and Sevendust. Tickets for this show go on sale soon! ... Ticket information to come."
Also this :
SEVENDUST at Las Palmas Race Track w/ Deftones, Drowning Pool, My Darkest Day, Carnival, Fair To Midland 7509 N. Taylor Road Mission, Texas 75804
Ohh my what a treat, I would love to see the sevendust play w my dogs (deftones)
says the same thing on theprp
That would be cool, I'm originAlly from the rgv. I was at the concert u mentioned back in 2001 with incubus and taproot.
fuck... mission??? not to dis on anyone down there but why the fuck mission, tx? at least corpus or something... well this will be an excuse for me to go on a road trip and visit a friend in corpus, too on the way...
The reason I'm asking for verification is because Deftones have not been to the Valley since 2000/2001, back when they got into a fight with a newspaper reporter. Chino promised not to be back here ever. But, now it says on theprp, sevendust website, and drowning pool website that they are scheduled to play in Mission, Texas. Tomorrow I will call the event place and ask. If they are coming, I'm totally there!!
People in the valley love when big bands come down there i went to a couple shows while i was in college down there the crowd got pretty insane...should be a good show
hell yeah, looks like im takin lil road trip.

Austins not to bad at all. Mission is right on the mexican border.
The problem Chino had with the newspaper reporter was over a photo shoot. It turns out Chino was wearing a hoodie that said "FUCT," which I believe is the name of the brand/company. So, the newspaper reporter commented rudely about Chino wearing that type of word. I think Chino ended up paying some money to settle that argument. I will try to find the article. It's somewhere on the web.
Here is the story! I found it! : http://membrane.com/renegade/win2001/deftones.html (http://membrane.com/renegade/win2001/deftones.html)
Nora Garza, the former features editor at the Monitor in McAllen, TX who was fired for running a photograph of the rock group Deftones, will be receiving a check to help pay her bills until she finds new employment. Members of Deftones and Erik Brunetti, owner of the Los Angeles-based clothing company FUCT, are sending Garza $5,000.
Garza, an employee at the Monitor for more than two years, was told she had "embarrassed" the newspaper when she ran one of the standard publicity photos of Deftones that is distributed by the band's record label, Madonna's Maverick Recording Co. In the photo, which ran on the cover of the October 27 edition of the Monitor's entertainment section as a preview to the band's McAllen Halloween concert, lead singer Chino Moreno is wearing a dark blue sweatshirt with the "fuct" company logo printed across the front.
"All of us in the band feel terrible about Mrs. Garza being fired," said Deftones' Moreno, "and wanted to do something to help her out, especially when we were told that the paper didn't give her much of a severance. To be honest, I'm offended that a newspaper has no problem running gruesome photos of dead bodies or horrifically malnourished people, but fires a woman for running a photo that contains a word that resembles an obscenity."
Garza said that she didn't interpret the letters as obscene. "I didn't even think of it. It just looked like a college sweatshirt or something. I don't use that kind of language, so it just didn't occur to me." Garza said she received only one complaint from a reader, and that when she was dismissed, she was told of one other complaint. According to an article in the San Antonio Express-News, the Monitor editors deemed this incident "one of the top 10 worst blunders" in the paper's history.
Texas is what is termed an "at will" state, which means that an employer can legally fire anyone at any time for any reason. "Talk about a reason not to vote for Bush," commented Moreno.
Erik Brunetti, owner and designer of FUCT, a highly-successful "Gen X" clothing company for the past twelve years, said that nothing like this has occurred before. Brunetti cites that a "fuct" shirt was worn by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach, and Kevin Spacey sported one in his Oscar-winning American Beauty role. Rock musicians such as Marilyn Manson, and members of Rage Against the Machine, Slayer, and NIN are also patrons of "fuct." "Keanu Reeves wore one of our t-shirts on the MTV Video Music Awards and was asked to button his jacket, but I think that's the closest thing to censorship we've experienced."
...interesting. Well best of luck to her. 7D and Deftones should be awesome though. Maybe they will perform Bender.

im a journalist, wath a stupid newspaper attitude, too bad. Cool that the band and the brand fuct concern about the future of the writer. I dont know if chino says that they never come back, i dont think they say something like that
