What attracts you to it most, i like personally like the zoney choruses which make you feel as though your in some kind of world... as well i like the hard songs with the chuggy guitar sounds such as cmnd-ctrl, bored and my own summer
It's kind of hard to explain, but whenever I hear music and I like it, it's like a piece of a puzzle that fits perfectly.
And I like Chino's voice, oh yeah. I like who he can sound warm on one song and harsh on the other.
I like the shades of soft and heavy that intertwine and the dreamy landscapes they paint. and the voice that goes so perfectly with this constantly changing sound.
a) definitely Chino's voice. unique
b) Defones music is definitely dark/erotic/sexy at times, which is an unique quality
c) they have a lot of melancholic yet beautiful moments within their music
d) awesome songwriting and awesome production value
e) SELF-TITLED. I don't care for anything else they released. I mean, it's not like it's bad - just I could survive with only the superfantastic self-titled.
f) they are DARK
I rike the merodies.
really depends on the record
adrenaline: like the raw feel and energy. enjoy the riffage mixed with chinos weird ethno style singing
around the fur: the dynamics coupled with rather odd riffs and the very "wet" sounding vocals. love how everything sounds like chino is whispering or screaming into your ear
white pony: this one is flawless. love the futuristic, cold sound and the flow of the record. the production makes it very cohesive. i enjoy the odd little experimental parts especially (weird riff in feiticeira, odd drum pattern in digital bath, out of this world vocals in knife prty)
s/t: nothing good about this record. overproduced, lackluster and uninspired effort. pretty bland stuff.
saturday night wrist: i love bits of it, but thats the nature of the record. everything is pieced together and some pieces shine (riviere, cherry waves, combat) while others dont
diamond eyes: love the depth in terms of texture, the overall futuristic feel and the imagery in the lyrics. enjoy the riffage.
They have a sensuality to their sound, even in some of the harsher passages, that comes through without sounding lame and shitty like H.I.M. That is to say that H.I.M. attempt to have romance in their music but come off horribly whereas the Deftones have that without trying. It just comes through naturally. Steph's riffs are so abstract and unique and Abe adds a certain groove that is absent in a lot of heavy music. Chino's voice is very sensual and heavy but he can also scream like a banshee and that's just sick. His lyrics are also astounding especially in a scene populated by shitty lyrics and even shittier music. Frank's ambiance is perfectly executed without sounding like a terrible or overused 80's synth. They just come together to form something unique that is exclusively the Deftones domain.
Sidenote: H.I.M. is just HORRIBLE all around.
I think you guys pretty much summed it up for me. I think they're a unique band that has they're own sound. No one has that heavy but...bright beauty to it. I just dunno even know how to put into words.
As has been said, I love that they mix together their sounds and also the lyrics to make something that sounds very dark, violent, sensual at the same time. I mean, they're a very diverse band (another thing I love) but that is the sound of them that I prefer. But I have literally not found a single person who doesnt like at least one of their songs, just because they're so diverse and there are songs to suit every style and mood. Chino's voice too, as someone mentioned. Everything just blends together nicely.
I can't explain in words but I know.
Like everyone said, I like they can be very violent yet romantic, without sounding ridiculous. I love Chino's voice too, basically for the same reason. I also like their "attitude": they just don't give a shit about weird cover choices, awful socks and skateboarding when you're 30+. They're just great. :D
I like that deftones just stay true to themselves. Like after White Pony they could have made WP part 2, but they took a hard left and made a experimental but great album. Even though it wasn't commercially successful. And they still put out amazing music after 20 years. And they some how keep me interested even though i've been a fan for over 10 years. Most bands you grow out of Deftones music grows with you.

pretty much these
It gives me an erection.
Still not sure why.
They bring beauty in everything they do...Who else can pull off Elite an make it sound beautiful???And songs like Sextape...Jesus Christ...Anniversary Of an Uninteresting Event...Noone can pull that shit off other than the Deftones...Its almost like a drug...Makes you feel like no other...
At first I really fell in love with these guys due to their aggressive dynamic style. I was like, wow, these motherfuckers are screaming at me for something I didn't do. Oh I get it! Take that bitch!!!
But now I just love the roller-coaster they take me on. I simply just like everything.

No, that would be The Cure. :)
Yea The Cure have definitely perfected that, but I agree with Vesanic. The Tones really do make beautiful depressing music. Battle-Axe is a perfect example.
This is a great question...
When people ask me why I am such a Deftones freak I tell them:
Deftones in one moment will lull you into a blissful state of beauty and then 10 seconds later brutally assault you with a concrete cinder block across the face.
That about sums it up for me!
the surrealist feeling it gives to me, it's simply otherwordly.
^ Yes! The music does have a surreal feeling to it. That's why I've compared their sound to a lot David Lynch's surreal film passages. They just make you feel like you're somewhere phantasmagorical. Very dream-like.
The Deftones are one of the few bands that can completely clear my mind and take me somewhere else. They're so much more than a metal or hard rock band....

what do you like most about Deftones music?
not just the band the same as with other bands songs albums i like... depends on the song andor part of the song all about the mood and feeling not just the deftones music in general
I dont know how to say to be honest..
An ond friend of mine, back in highschool, intruduced them to me (he gave me a mix tape with 'Root' on it). When I heard the song in my couch, relaxing, I was like: "I need to find more!". That was back when Napster was the best option to find music online. I downloaded '7 words', 'One weak' and 'Fireal' that day and I couldn't stop listening to them. Luckily I found a cool cd store who used to import stuff from U.S and I ordered my copy of 'Adrenaline'.
It took like three weeks to arrive in my place. I've been listening to them since. I never found another band that makes me that interested, excited, just because they are unique. Chino's voice/lyrics, Abe's and Chi's rythm, Frank's atmospheres and Stef's violence. They all fit together and I dont know any other band that fit like they do. That's probably the best way to answer your question.
I do love Faith no more and Rage against the machine, but Deftones is my favorite band since I was 18, and they are in another level, IMO.

Yes. They chose what was harder and less safe - also in sales terms. They did it because their love for music was more important than money. They were classified under that nu metal shit, but they never tried to take advantage of it, even when it would have been profitable.
everything i feel has already been said, I love how the anger, the beauty and punch is combined, very unique sound, they always re-invent their sound in each album, they are the shit.
The thing that made me love deftones was the "substance" of their music, I loved Change instantly and I got so deep in it that it transported me to another world, all that dark atmosphere, the bass line, chino's voice it was fucking amazing! then it was Chino's lyrics they could mean all and nothing at the same time, it played with my mind and I love that in art, when art is enigmatic I feel so atracted to it.. its the substance I was talking about.. there is no other band like them, I could say A Perfect Circle or Tool, but they are not the same... Deftones are unique!!!
no matter how i feel i can listen to it and enjoy it. happy, sad, pissed off, it's always been there. thats one reason i guess.

Worth repeating IMO..............
Would I be the first to say I LIKE THE WHOLE FREAKING THING
It's always up there......UNwimpy :):):)
i like the deftones because no one else could create their kind of music. its a god gift to made abe chi steph chino and frank to meet and make music together.
