I dont know if i am aloud to comment on this or not if not then please remove this topic but i was stoned last night, me and my friends were smoking all night and we decided to listen to SNW as we were flicking through MP3s and seriously i have never been soo relaxed in all my life, this has to be the most relaxing album ever... every song i was zoning out at, is that normal?
oh and when Cherry Waves came on... ::)
It's definitely their saddest. DE shone a new a light on it for me.
As a record...it´s really bad.
see i actually like it because its really relaxing and chilling... not heavy at all really... not my favourite album but definately one for chilling with i think. im stuck between DE and ATF as favourites
I dont think of any of their albums as being relaxing, because they all have a mix of different kinds of songs that give off different vibes, but Beware is one of their most relaxing songs for me.
Its does seem pretty chill when i think about. Theres a lot of slower and just quieter stuff on the record. I love this album, its not my favorite but no matter how many times i hear people explain why the dont like it...i will never understand it.
I enjoyed it. Sure, it maybe different from their other albums, but it's still a good album. It has some really mellow songs.
i think snw is is on par with all of their albums, i really like it. except ffor pink cell phone, i think every song is cool (even mein). maybe the record sounds a little pieced together but its still great. i can honestly say that IMO its better than diamond eyes. even though DE is really cool, i remember feeling snw a lot more when it came out. DE has a little commercial vibe to it.
DE>SNW for me but i still love it. pink cellphone i'm not too fond of though. but there are some great songs on that record. cherry waves, combat, rapture, kimdracula. but it just doesn't feel as cohesive or complete as DE.

agreed. self titled is just crushing. i don't find SNW particularly sad. only really xerces and riviere seem sad to me.

S/T is more, it's deeper than sadness. It's utter sorrow.
its the album im listen when im getting bored with adrenaline, around the fur, white pony, self titled, bsides, or diamond eyes

Riviere is just one of the most beautifully depressing-sounding songs ever. But yeah I agree with what ppl are saying, I think the Self0Titled album sounds generally more depressing. Actually, to improve on my earlier comment, I think that album is more relaxing than SNW. Minus Beware.
Xerces=The saddest
Combat=The Loudest
Kimdracula=The Best
Period
it definitely has melancholy written all over it, and compared to the other albums it's probably the one with the most "chill" songs.
there are great musics in SNW.
beware, xerces, riviere. even cherry waves (except the lyrics...)
but, as an "album" is really bad. there´s no line...the songs are isolated from each other.
At least, with DE...they got this feeling back.

I weas more referring to the statement that Diamond Eyes made me appreciate SNW more.
And whilst "saddest" may not be the best term to describe SNW, in my opinion it is the album that was made when the deftones were at their least cohesive.

I think that fits the album.
I wish they'd start playing xerces live again. I love how they change the intro up.
I wouldnt say chilling.. more like 'less inspired'. Too say the least..

I get a dual feeling listening to this record:
When I feel like chilling out and when I feel like getting aggressive.
Definitely a good record when your with a girl
Almost every song on S/T gives me chills

This.
first time I heard Rapture, I was happy. first time I heard HITE, I dissapointed, a bit. first time i saw HITE MV, i lost my taste.
I don't get if you mean "chilling" like music you can chill to or music that gives you chills. Hole in the Earth gives me chills. As do Combat, Beware, Cherry Waves, Xerces, Kimdracula and Riviere. That's all very emotionally intense stuff to me.
S/T i see in a very different light. It may be depressing sounding but I find it's actually incredibly uplifting and optimistic. It's amazing.
i freaking love SNW. it just owns. period.if someone doesnt agree then hey, thats cool.
Well some songs are "chilling" yeah... however theres like only 4: Xerces, Beware, Cherry Waves and Riviere.
Good also when you're going to sleep.
The rest of the album, not.
sorry wrong post
If I had to say the best track off this album, it would be "Cherry Waves". Absolutely can't not go without this track. Its a fucking Deftones classic. There's no other deftones song that sounds like it.
The only part of Riviere that is sad is the lyrics really. It's Beautiful. And they are only sad when I read them, not when I hear it.
Not that I care but I am just happy people seeem to be coming around to SNW. Very unappreciated it seemed before. I loved it at second listen the day it dropped. First listen, I was confused and felt like it was just a filler of an album. I str8 up love this record. Different discoveries every time I hear it. Plus my wife appreciates it too minus Rats :)
I dont think it's the most chilling, but it has some really beautiful and mesmerizing songs (Riviere, Beware, Cherry Waves, Xerces), so maybe in that sense, but the rest of the album take away frm that a lot. Not that they're bad songs, but that they're heavier and more aggressive, so as an album it doesnt really have one general feel to it.
What makes Riviere stick out so much for you? I love it too but I've seen you bring it up a few times and seems quite an unusual pick. Cool though. I nearly creamed when I saw Chino teasing it live.
I think the biggest problem the Deftones have had in making and sequencing records is accomplishing an overall cohesiveness from the first track to the last. Record flow is extremely important when attempting to capture an overarching mood across multiple songs. As far as Saturday Night Wrist goes, I believe the album does carry a more reserved, curious character. However, I believe the second half of the disc really lacks direction and focus. Personally, I think Saturday Night Wrist could have been sequenced better in order to fully capture the character of the album.
As for Saturday Night Wrist being the most chilling album, I would disagree with that as well. I think White Pony is the best sequenced or flowing album of the band's discography, with every song carrying an added shade of darkness as things progress. From "Knife Prty" to "RX Queen" to "Digitial Bath" to "Pink Maggit", White Pony possess an atmosphere that could be considered chilling and rather bleak.

White Pony though has "Digital Bath" and "Elite" right next to each other. Thats the only part of the album that I think is awkwardly sequenced. Your all soothed from "Digital Bath" then you go into "Elite" and its so loud and heavy, and really a great song, but not the right song to put after a soft song.
And also really the reason SNW doesn't flow very good is because they nitpicked all the songs they had, and chose a small amount of them, so thats why it sounds so disjointed. Its more like all of SNW, the finished songs and even the unused demos, form a journey, and the finished SNW, without the demos is like scenes from that journey, so it seems incomplete.
