Out of curiosity how many of you guys are musicians?
Lol at the try to be. I do to...people tell me i have a good voice but i dont think its that great. I also play guitar. How long you been playing the piano?
Whatever works. Some people just have the innate ability to play.
I make shitty electro.
this topic should be a poll [ ? ]
I dabble in drumming. :-)
I'm a drummer. and I play a little guitar.
I make random ambient music but I play drums and I wanna be in a band so badddddd!!! Unfortunately none of my friends like the same music as me and I'm a little too shy to just advertise my skills and play in a band with people I don't know... I just wanna experience the life of touring just once before I pass away.
I am in a five-piece instrumental/post-rock band, slowattack, we've been playing for 3 years now.
Also, well, I am a solo post-rock/ambient/cosmic-rock artist, 'the Picturesque Episodes'.
I released six albums and one EP throughout 2009 and 2010. I do everything on my own.
I play pretty much any instrument except all brass and other wind instruments. Though I played tuba in my teenage years and I play ocarina from time to time.
i play trumpet and i pretend to play guitar.
i'm in a band right now called the iron bears but it's temporary until they find someone full-time.
i can also rap.
that's a lie.
I played pot's and pans the first few years of my life. I upgraded to a drum kit when i was about 9, and i'm still playing almost every day of the week.
I recently started fooling around on the piano, and I'm loving it.
I play the banjo.
I've always been pretty good at singing, I was in choir all of middle school and 2 years of high school. I've been playing guitar for 5 years now. I've pretty much been writing my own stuff since i picked one up. I'm starting to learn drums thanks to my two best friends who happen to have been playing drums their whole lives pretty much. In 2006, I had a death metal band called Eradication of the Masses...i was the cookie monster :[ Recently I've been doing some new recordings with my neighbor which are pretty weird sounding..you never know what the future holds. One of my best friends brother has invited me to be a part of this project...

shouldn't you have more interesting pictures to post then?
I play guitar, self taught. When trying to make my own songs, they sound like deftones riffs without me even knowing what song.
I've tried a couple times to sit down and write a song using some theory and they turn out alright. Need some drums though, helps me play different styles.
Sounds like we got a wide variety here at SL.

As am I.
Theory is easy its just applying it that some people have a problem with.
I play guitar but doesnt everyone? i also fuck around with the drums and bass if they are around. i also like to make beats and noise with my laptop. I would be in a band but my job just wont let that happen so i do it for fun. And if you have a guitar you are never bored
bling bling crack pipe hidden in his collarrrrrrrr
like many here, i play guitar, almost self-taugh (i went to some classes, but they were about something like "classical mexican music", you know, we call them "estudiantinas") and sometimes also try to write my own stuff, but i feel it lacks something, so only the things that have potential are the ones i record, to try to make with friends or a cousin...
i really want a band but there are a few friends with similar musical tastes, and despite i could manage to play with them, my actual job takes a lot of time... but i'll do it for sure, as Starz said, i want to tour at least once before passig away haha..
and lastly, i want sooooo bad to play drums, sometimes while hearing a song, i act like playing on a real battery, but i WANT to try it on a real thing...

I hear you man i feel the same way about the music i write. I like it alot at first but after i fuck around with it for a few days i move on.

Totally disagree. That's where I started. It's extremely easy to get going, and then you're making complete garbage, but all the while, learning how FLStudio actually works.
That's all I use at the moment. I'm gonna try and start learning Ableton soon.
Been playing bass for 5 years.

I use cubase if you guys are into it we could exchange some stuff...samples projects and whatever and see what comes out of it.just for the fun of it!
you guys are down with it?
i'll be up for that
I play guitar since 15 and sing since 12. I studied 2 years sound engineering/music producer and have a band which makes something between deftones/glassJAw/Thursday and a lot of other bands I love. I'm the producer of that band, we've been playing for a little more than 2 years and played 6 or 7 shows.

Detroit is the only song I have on this computer at the moment, but if anyone does remixes, I can break that song up into some stems for you to use if you're interested. It's MOSTLY finished. I'm gonna go back and make some minor changes though.
cool man
i'm so bored of making music on my own... i wanna work with other people "2 heads are better than 1" so people can bring other ideas and influences to the table. The Sound Of Animals Fighting wrote all their albums by sending hundreds of different audio files of guitar etc via e-mail until they had a complete song. they never met up to practice which i thought was pretty cool
we can make a collab if I have time in summer :)
august most probably
yeah that would be great!
Drummer here but have faded way off in the last 5 years.Finding a place to play is a bitch.
Currently playing guitar and rocking socks with Kyuss-tuning.*cough*

upload the separated tracks!
Quite a few drummers on SL. I am one more of this usually "rare" species, though I didn't play in about two years.
I used to be in bands, and I miss that feeling. Nowadays all I do is sports, but that doesn't compensate it really. I'd love to be in a band, rock some tiny club and go nuts. It's ok though, no complaints.
I guess it's all up to oneself to change something. Like if someone badly wants to have a band he / she will end up having a band.
Obviously for some people it is easier to get there, but in the end it's all about dedication. I don't know. In a few months I am moving, and I might start playing again.
i play guitar, i won't say i'm good, but i'm getting better and better. i'm way better than i was this time last year, mainly cause i've practiced alot the past year, and the previous 13 years i just dabbled once every 4-8 months or so for a few mins with very basic stuff, usually all on the top string. never tried to get good untill last year, so far so good, so what
First attempt at an original song in FL9. Needs a bit more structuring, but i'm getting the hang of it

I've been playing piano for 4 yrs, but that's it. I'd love to learn to play other things, especially the violin and drums, but...I probably lack the patience.
This is a remix I've been working on for a guy called Halogen. Meh, it needs more work which I'm hoping to complete over the weekend.

I'm not gonna be uploading the stems to Detroit until I really feel like it's done.
In related news, the band Brite Futures, until recently known as Natalie Portman's Shaved Head gave me the stems to their new track Dog Eared Summer, which I've been slowly working on remixing this past week or so.

Shit man, that's better than I sounded when I first started using FLS. Did you use any tutorials or anything? When I first started, I was getting instructions from a dude that thought it was a program for making STRICTLY loops. Not entire tracks. Naturally I learned pretty slowly. Plus I was using FL6 which pretty much blew dongs. FLS is much much more intuitive now.
But anyway, I suggest to you that you torrent some sample/loop packs because A) default FLS drum samples blow dick and B) anyone that's ever used FLS seriously can spot those samples the second one of them quietly plays in the background behind 30 heavily distorted synths. Speaking of synths, there's a massive amount of free VSTs out there and I highly suggest starting up a VST collection early. Most of the synths that come with FLS are either really shitty sounding or tough to learn how to use efficiently. I'd suggest finding a torrent pack of all the Native Instruments VSTs. They're all great. Especially if you're into softsynths that are modeled after that warm analog sound. Granted, no matter how good a softsynth is,. it'll never sound as good as a minimoog, but I love the ones that try.
Another thing, I don't think you were using effects tracks at all. I'd suggest checking out the help files immediately so you can learn how to do that.
