i used to watch this when i was in primary school and once i got into trouble and my dad said that he wasn't going to let me watch the x-files so i sat in my room and cried. i had a david duchovny tv hits calender. oh, the 90's!
i've been rewatching them whilst trying to finish up my last year in uni. i'm up to season 5. i'm semi-obsessed. i had forgotten what an amazing show it is. i also never noticed how sexy skinner was. this is why a revisit is always a good idea.
any fans?
Fuck yeah I'm a fan. Had some great childhood memories watching this with my cousin at our grandfather's apartment, and getting scared shitless. The episodes that actually advance the overall alien storyline are obviously great, but personal favorites include the Flukeman
(http://blog.blinkbox.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/fluke.jpg)
and the cocoon one in the woods of the Pacific Northwest
(http://dauntlessmedia.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/x-files-119-darkness-falls-00063.png)
I rediscovered it just like you when I lived with a couple friends in an apartment at college. The Sci-Fi Channel would air random marathons of it in the middle of the night. Ahh the good old days, staying up all night watching X-files, smoking, eating pistachio pudding. haha.
Hell, even the last couple seasons with Robert Patrick were still really entertaining.
hahaha great times, hey? i mainly sit up until really late watching. you know what i love? mulder's comebacks. so funny. and how he will say really inappropriate things at the wrong time.
AND THE SEXUAL TENSION BETWEEN MULDER AND SCULLY! HOT!!!
i'm not up to those episodes where doggett replaces mulder. i will be soon. i didn't start rewatching until last year. my mate lent me all the dvds. an amazing show.
one question: do you believe in aliens?
yes, I was always a fan.
And yes, one of the most memorable episodes are - a) the cocoon one; b) the mountain station one (where Mulder is stuck in this transmission station and teh ufo guys pay him a visit.
I had most of the series in my laptop, then it got deleted, and now I WISH I had them.

was that the one with the guys with their eyes sewn shut? i remember something like that on some mountain with Alex Krychek (that guy was awesome)

I don't remember really. I just remember this part where it's a mountainous (not snowy) place, a small station whatever, Mulder blocks the door with a cupboard or something and the ALIANZ still come in.
And yes, I do kinda believe in aliens. Well, point is - I will never say that "believing in extra-terrestrial life is nonsense", but the universe still did not provide me much proof.
By the way, kids, did you hear about the chinese village that disappeared overnight?

Weird shit, dude. Just looked it up after you mentioned it.
Yeah. well, the video provided is fake - I found that out (it's a 4 month old video from Beijing - youtube something like "UFO landing in Beijing" and it appears right there), but the fact that a village just disappeared - military is active there, and there is a nuclear thing there.. kinda scary.
wtf?!? so was it nuclear and a subsequent cover-up or what?
I have no idea. you have to read some articles etc to get your own opinion, cause mine is kinda fucked
when i googled the subject, the top hit was for naturalplane.blogspot and it's actually a pretty interesting site. you can never know how much information is legitimate, but i've been reading random articles on it for about an hour now, lol.
with the china subject, though, i'm smelling a hoax. also the video is from a completely unrelated event from 2009.
looks like mulder needs to get on the case!
i finished watching the doll episode in season five. it freaked me out. i fucking hate dolls. they're creepy as all hell. i'm dreading season seven because no mulder :/ i was also thinking what a good influence scully is as a female character. she's really great. i've never related so much to a female character. maybe not as smart though hahaha.
i believe in aliens too. i don't think they look like what everyone thinks they look like.

you're in good company because i think the three of us al have fucked up opinions.
have you tried watching V? it's 2nd season starts in january, and it's not necessarily like the x-files, but it does have aliens. an interesting idea that if lizard-like aliens have lived amongst us for hundreds of years.
and i'm sure Darius probably agrees that a truer "successor" to the x-files is the awesome show Fringe.
My roommates and I rewatched the entire series in college. We weren't to big on going to class.

V is.. OKAY. not TOO good, but it's watchable.
and yes.
FRINGE IS FUCKING AWESOME.
especially the newest season. if the show was REALLY good before, now it's just flawless..

i really dislike v. it was never interesting to me.
fringe was being shown for a bit on channel nine but i think they took it off. i remember watching the first episode. anna torv is aussie. that's all i know of it. i ought to check it out soon though although i think i need to start watching the wire dvd's my sister bought for me after i finish with the x-files.

holy shit enjoy! definitely not sci-fi haha, but still, the wire is my favorite show of ALL TIME.
i love idris elba. he's in this british crime show called luther. brilliant actor.
i've had the dvd's for a while. haven't started watching yet. i've seen a bit of season three though but i was lost as to who was who and what was essentially happening.
whoa whoa, i seriously just caught the premiere episode of Luther a couple days ago haha. i'm a fan of his mainly because of his work on The Wire, but Luther seems alright as a show to keep my out for when i have some free time.
i'm a complete slut for british drama. the bill ended, which makes me very sad. british crime shows just make death, gangs, corruption etc seem so much better with that accent.
it's sort of my parents fault. they used to leave me in front of mr bean videos for shitloads of hours when i was young. i grew attached to anything british. mr bean...legit brilliance.

mine did the same thing. my old man and I watched a lot of bean and fawlty towers when i was young. those were classics. one show i'm into now is Wallander, which i got into because it's a dark, Swedish detective series that an uncle of mine recommended because it's kind of in the same vein as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.
i want to read those books.
have you seen 'the killing'? it's a dutch drama. my lecturer is a big fan of it. it was on half an hour before lost started so i always watched the first half hour when i could and then watched lost. i love it's filmed. it's my type of aesthetic. i find most dutch shows have an aesthetic i tend to always love.
never heard of it, but i searched it and came up with a danish tv series that is being re-made for the u.s. is it by any chance, this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killing_%28TV_series%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killing_%28TV_series%29)
sounds like my cup of tea. just like the girl/dragon tattoo series, which i strongly recommend. i actually recently saw the first movie of the Swedish-language trilogy, it was still very good, even after reading the books (normally i dislike the movies based on books i enjoy). the 2nd film just came out on dvd, and the 3rd is in theaters this week i believe. interesting fact, if you haven't heard those movies are being redone in English by Fincher, so we have that to look forward to.
what's with american's and remaking everything?!?
it's just very frustrating. it feeds into most people's presumption that americans don't like anything that isn't american.
haha, hey i know. we are definitely ignorant and elitist when it comes to other cultures, especially films. i normally hate remakes just as much as you, but lately i'm realizing the only way some people are ever going to see some of these movies is if their language is in English. sad, i know, but whatever, we're morons.
maybe if the rest of the world would start using expensive, fancy gimmicks like 3-D, maybe more people will see them...
AMURRRICA! FUCK YEAH!
yeah, i agree, but there's something inherently wrong in the fact that our society feeds people's ignorance. i watched let me in, which was ok, but they completely overlooked the essential plot of the film that is eli's androgyny and her sexuality. they didn't even address the key scene in the original film. it was just...uncomfortably safe. that's how i feel about most american remakes. i'm not being a hater. there are some amazing american writers and directors. sometimes there are things that don't translate well into the english language and the original story line gets compromised so that it would fit into another thing.
i'm big on subtitles. heck, i even put on the subtitles when i'm watching english films.
fuck, now i feel like watching let the right one in. i should go to bed.
totally planning on watching the ORIGINAL tomorrow night as part of our annual halloween movie marathon.
it's my favourite vampire film.
eli is what my daughter is going to look like if i ever have kids.
ha, i just saw this now (only about a week later, not bad). a pale, androgynous daughter? interesting.
are you interested in providing the sperm? artificial insemination of course because i'm not going to let an american touch me hahaha.
david duchovny said that there's a third x-files movie in the talks and that he and gillian are in. omg, happiness!

well, iIm half greek so i'm not that pale. but then again my dad is norwegian and danish, so who knows maybe some offspring can get some awesome Scandinavian paleness. but why do you have to be so prejudicial against Americans?
oh, and about the x-files that sounds great. it'll never happen, but how cool would it be if the Lone Gunmen were a part of one of their movies?
i was j-o-k-i-n-g. when i was in america it was only black guys who showed any interest in me. plus i wanted to jump every jewish guy in skokie. babes, the lot of them.
or krycek. or both the lone gunmen and krycek. i only started liking krycek in season six. he was such an arsehole before that. so sexy when he spoke in russian though.
yeah krycek is badass. wait, skokie? you were in fucking skokie?
yes, in 2007. my aunt lives in skokie. there's good indian restaurants in chicago. i loved it there. all the colour:
i like how the bench says "no frat boy clone wear here". THAT'S a lie.
i spent hours driving around with my cousin trying to buy grog. no one would sell it to me because i wasn't 21 at the time. arseholes.
sooo that means now you're coming back for it?
if i do come back i'll definitely pop into illinois to see family. i so very badly want to go to boston and philly. oh, and texas too! i have to be careful not to get depressed this time. i didn't really have a good time on my last trip.
where's your family at over here? are they originally from down under?
my mum's sister lives in illinois with her family. she was living in malta before that for several years because her husband worked on a boat. she came to australia for a holiday several years ago. it must have made an impression on her because she wants to move here. i also have two uncles that live in california. my entire family has a history of moving around a lot.
