I've been debating joining here for a long time, but I elected to finally do it today. There are people on here who no doubt know a lot more about Deftones than I do so I am interested in hearing everyone's opinions. I have been a Deftones fan for the last several years. I was wondering what you know about Chino's personality. From just a couple of interviews I've read, people have said he's either an ass or that he talks a bunch of shit. Have you guys had any interactions with him via concerts or anything that would disprove that? I am not trying to start any shit or arguing. I am just genuinely curious.
He seems timid and quiet in interviews usually. Though during his alcoholic years, he was clearly quite the doucher.
It just depends on his mood like anyone else... Some times i've seen him in a rush signing shit, taking pictures, whatever, sometimes he's cool and talkative... i was on the bus once and we were smokin and he was pretty quiet but he was still cool. he's really down to earth, though, like the rest of the guys.
He seems pretty normal to me, by which I mean that he's generally a kwl guy, but will sometimes be tired or pissed off or whatever, which will lead to ppl having bad experiences with him, and thinking he must be an asshole all the time. But most of the time he seems pretty laidback and friendly.

Met him once before after a show, I was on the phone with my girlfriend waiting in line...shook his hand, asked him why they don't play Prince covers anymore and he's like "Ah man...we haven't done that in a long time." Then I'm like "Aw..okay, well good to meet you." Then I walked over to meet the other band members...shook Chi's hand, said what's up to Abe and then Chino's like, "Man, who you on the phone with?" "My girl, wanna talk to her?" "Yeah....sup girl?" All the while people are standing in line waiting for him. Hahahah. I'm laughing my ass off typing this...Chino's such a pimp.
When i met him he was in a hurry and really quiet. I asked if I could take a picture but he said he had to go. All the other guys were really cool and talkative even Frank.
oh and then one time he even threw some shit away for me because i couldn't find a trash can anywhere, he didn't have a problem with it haha... on the bus later i was like oh i'm sorry i gave you my trash and shit, he didn't care haha
kinda funny cuz everyone's always asking for autographs and shit and i do that instead haha
Well I guess he's human like the rest of us. He does seem like a guy who would just shut the world out and go to his own place. But that's why we love him isn't it? You can't write the lyrics he does without some introversion.
From my own personal experiences, he's a genuinely nice guy. Unpretentious - took time out to talk to me and take photos on both occasions, and even autographed my WP tattoo.
