Well the idea of this thread is to post the names of a few bands you like, in the region of 5 - 10, and for other members to recommend a band you would like judging from the bands you already like. I don't know if this will work but it seemed like a good idea, and I love discovering new music. I'll go first:
At The Gates
In Flames
Arch Enemy
Opeth
Diablo
(Note: I'm not keen on Dark Tranquillity, even though that seems like an obvious band to suggest).
What a wicked awsome idea Zara.
here is mine (with the type of style):
Dada (mellow rock)
Crowded House (New Zealand's best band)
The War Within (thrice sounding band from New Zealand)
Neil Young and Crazy Horse, for anyone who hasnt heard the awesomeness of neil and the horse heres a sample!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grok0EXtX5k
'When it comes to guitar solos, one note will do!!"
the energy neil has in this is crazy for a 50 year old man!
the crowd shots in this are so gay!!
No no no, she listed bands she likes. Now she wants recommendations of bands based on the ones she posted.

Haha.
I totally recommend American Head Charge, their a fucking great band, full of energy, aggressive, hard and fast. The band have really been through the shit over the last few years with getting dropped by American Records, band members leaving and the death of Brian (RIP) but they still stick together and trudge through all the shit to give some fucking amazing live shows. The had one rather big hit called 'Just So You Know' which is a beautiful crafted song, Cameron Martin Heacock who has the most beautiful smile also has an amazing set of lungs and could easily give Chino a run for his money.
hows about radiohead tool and pink floyd
oh yeah u dont like good music.
try muse
I would recommend Coheed & Cambria.
I know a lot of people really hate them (mainly due to Claudio's voice)...but the soundscapes they create (not to mention the story!!!) are breath taking.
Also, i have just learnt that Chris Pinote (Dillinger Escape Plan) is playing drums on their next album (and the first in the Coheed story)
C&C is great.

Haha. Actually I don't mind Floyd.
And Muse are great! I'm seeing them tonight as a matter of fact! ;D
As for Coheed & Cambria, I listened to a couple of their songs aaaaaaaages ago, was instantly put off by the vocals. I seem to remember thinking the music was alright though.
i know u like muse. thats why i said that, to be a dick
enjoy the show tonight!

The War Within (thrice sounding band from New Zealand)
Awesome, some New Zealand Bands. I'm going to go ahead and recommend my fave NZ bands.
Slipping Tongue - Awesome metal type band from Rotorua, New Zealand. They have downloadable songs on their myspace. They are also probably one of my fav bands right now.
New Way Home - another cool metal band, they have a myspace as well with songs (by the way, if anyone could rip these songs that would be awesome)
8 Foot Sativa - described as NZ's premier metal band, they have released 3 albums in three years and are soon to do a fourth (but due to legal problems they can't right now)
Cripple Mr Onion - cool industrial metal band, they also have a myspace.
That's about it for now, i'm sure i'll find some more. Tell me what you think as well.

God yeah, I love Slipping Tounge. We've played a few gigs when they're in Wellington. Such a nice sound (and Jennie's hot too)
Not a big fan of 8-foot Sativia.
new way home are brilliant as well. Glad to see the guys from sommerset didn't just die!
I gotta check out Cripple Mr Onion though.
Some other NZ bands Garmorragh - hardcore/grind/tech
Okasite - amazing puck rock
Nort - some brutal Pantera style metal
Cop Car - punk
Misconduct - OK Cali-style punk. Just a pity the drummers the biggest loser int he world

What's the optical zoom like?
You wont regret it! More bands you should check out - Converge, ISIS (fact you've probably already checked them out, you're more a metal lass than a hardcore chick eh?)
There's a 3x optical zoom. Havent really had the chance to test it out at a big show yet, and plus all the shows I've been to, I've always got to the front for. But I reckon it'll do a pretty damn good job!
Analena - scremo(I guess) with female vocalist...
http://myspace.com/analena
Father - some kind of metal, lol.... was at their gig last night, had a great time..:)
http://myspace.com/fatherband
..i recommend the song Cynosure

Yeah I'm definitely more into metal, not keen on Converge. Although I do like some stuff that I've read is metalcore/deathcore... Lamb Of God, Animosity, (which scared the crap out of me first time I heard it, haha), Chimaira... Don't think I like any straight up hardcore bands though. And I'm still yet to listen to anything by ISIS, I keep meaning to but haven't got round to it yet. Album(s)?
3x optical zoom eh? Hmmm that's alright... I was hoping it'd be higher than that... ah well I'll check it out in the Argos catalogue anyway! Thanks man.
EDIT: Just had a look on the Argos website, I'm assuming it's this:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5604717.htm
It says it's supplied with 2 AA batteries. Does that mean you can't charge it via mains? I guess you could get rechargeable batteries...
Here are my recommendations:
Day One Symphony
Unjust
Jacob's Stories
The Butterfly Effect
Sunk Loto
Burst
Devil Sold His Soul
Red Sparowes
Khoma
Breed 77
Sigur Ros
Liberty 37
Heavy Weight Champ
Open Hand
Fuck, I could go on for hours... If anyone wants anymore recommendations, let me know, my CD collection is fucking fuck off huge...

Have you tried Poison The Well? They're a fucking awesome band that would go under metalcore (I think). Norma Jean, you might like them too, especially the early 'Bless The Martyr...' stuff. Bleeding Through? The more I think of ISIS and what you say you like, the more I think you wont like them, but hey if you want to check them out, 'Panopticon' and 'Oceanic' are their masterpieces! Of course the earlier you go, the heavier it gets too, but the newer stuff for me is stronger.
Yeah that's the one. Trust me, you're not going to need the optical zoom that much with this bad boy heh! Yeah, the only downpoint is that it doesnt come with a plug for rechargeable batteries, but then none of the cameras I've had up to now have had that advantage. Plus, I only really use the camera for gigs and shows, where it works best, so I'm not forking out too much for batteries (it does get dead pretty quick though heh).

I'd call them a metal-core-ish band but with melody as well. Highly recommended. They released one full length cd titled "Untitled". Check it out.

Can't really think of anything else and I dunno if you'll like any of these bands, but hey, it's all a process of trial and error.
I checked out The Haunted's new album today and I suggest that all the metalheads here do the same! I dunno if it's been talked about earlier in this thread. but they are what became of At The Gates when they split up. and if you like that type of metal, then you'll definitely like The Haunted.

I've been listening to Radiohead alot lately. Anyone have any similar bands they would recommend? Also, there haven't been any metal bands that have really struck me in quite awhile. Any good new metal I should be listening to? and not some kind of emo atreyu bullshit.
this mexican band called Zurdok, i think it's the best mexican band ever, this is not a band with the same corny lyrics and the old lack of creativity in their music, as other bands in this country have tried and failed, these guys were different, i think EVERYONE should give a try to this band at least once in their long lives

^ most of their songs are a kinda Radiohead-ish but i'd wish you'd be the judge (weird effects all over, piano, acoustic guitars, violins, even some orchestra going on there)

Actually my everytime favourite album ;) Yes, expect it at the weekend. Maybe with some luck on the friday. Have you heard Eclipse (sol) from them? It's very good, too.
no i haven't, i listened some of their songs on the radio and that one you posted, and all of them are from that album, and i can't find it anywhere around here, i even searched through Soulseek, Kazaa, Ares, Limeware and nothing, but i'll be waiting for it man, thanks!!

wud bands would u say are close to deftones in there early years?
I'd recommend Abolution Project, I.R.A.T.E, Kings of Leon and the Mad Capsule Markets

Kid Koala if you don't already know
I recommend Talk Talk's two last albums, "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock". it's NOT 80's pop like their earlier stuff. seriously, it's hard to believe it's the same band. this later stuff is really experimental, mixing jazz with rock and all kinds of other stuff. it's probably the most emotional and moving music I've ever heard.
heya,
looking for some music like from the following bands:
A Perfect Circle
Deftones (especially the newer stuff SNW and ST....mellow side)
Thrice (like vhiessu..mellow stuff)
Pelican
im guessing the server had some kinda hiccup or something but i know someone replied with porcupine tree as something similar to my above post...
porcupine tree is a bit upbeat or happy for me
im really liking APC right now, dont know why exactly 13th step is constantly on repeat as well as Live Version of Noose
Ok im Finnish so I though i could recommend some local bands i like:
Echo is Your Love - http://www.myspace.com/echoisyourlove (http://www.myspace.com/echoisyourlove)
EIYL is something in the vain of sonic youth i guess. noiserock with a cute female vocalist :)
22-pistepirkko - http://www.myspace.com/22pistepirkko (http://www.myspace.com/22pistepirkko)
22-pistepirkko´s music is pretty hard to put into category. they have been around from the middle of 80´s i thinks they just actually had their 25th anniversary. oh yeah and 22-pistepirkko means 22-spotted ladybird in english. check em out :)
Callisto - http://www.myspace.com/callistochaos (http://www.myspace.com/callistochaos)
some of you must have heard from this band. very atmospheric music. give it a try if your into Cult Of Luna, ISIS, Neurosis etc etc..
Manifesto Jukebox - http://www.myspace.com/mjfinland (http://www.myspace.com/mjfinland)
punk/hardcore/emo with very intelligent yet emotional lyrics. they list the following influences on their myspace: Rites Of Spring, Husker Du, Leatherface, Planes Mistaken For Stars....

Also if you're into The Mars Volta have a look at at The Fall of Troy particularly songs Act One, Scene One and FCPREMIX. The singer/guitarist is amazing and uses a loop pedal live.

I would recomend Blue October- but their early stuff. They have especially a song called Black Orchid, Weight of the World and For My Brother. Any song from their cds called Consent to Treatment and the other called History For Sale.

Atooishinjuu. If you can stand the chaotic, noisy rawness of bands like Today is the Day, these guys are phenomenal. Basically, all the music is about losing a lover. The name of the band means to commit suicide following your lover's death, so it's dark shit. Really raw.

We must have a high concentration of hardcore kids here because I knew of them in high school. They do stand above their peers.

the year after i dropped out of high school, every girl in my former edjamacation station was wearing shai hulud hoodies. i remember reading about some chick in the midwest or texas or something who got kidnapped and raped and murdered or some shit like that and she had a shai hulud tattoo. when i was still in high school, every loser in a band who was and wasn't wearing tight, pressed polyester pants and playing emo was trying their damnedest to sound like shai hulud. i think plenty of people listen to shai hulud.

YES! This is the way bands should be recommended. I really enjoy this topic but it makes me mad when people just type in the name of the band without any description. It helps to have even a small clue what the bands are about so you can check the ones out that intrest you and not give a rats ass about the once you know you will dislike anyway.

I'd say go with Godspeed You! Black Emperor if you haven't tried that already. and I can give you many bands like This Will Destroy You (post-rock mainly).. so just ask me if you need it.
