Don't know if anyone has made a thread to devoted this, but i searched and nothing came up. Anyway this movie is going to be amazing for the following reasons:
1.The Joker is based off the version in the first two appearances he made in the comics and The Killing Game, which potray him as a vicious sociopathic serial killer with a blood lust and who used to be an ordinary normal guy who just went a little insane because of some bad events in his life (kind of like bruce wayne, except he went off the other way).
2.Katie Holmes is not going to be in it. The Rachel Dawes charecter is now handed down to Maggie Gylenhaal. Thank god.
3.Morgan Freeman's Fox charecter will have a larger role.
4.This movie will focus on Bruce Wayne's mental unstability as he realizes Batman has created a few new problems for Gotham.
5.Aaron Eckhart is playing Harvey Dent/Two Face
6.Michael Caine is back, and he kicks ass.
7.Boss Maroni, the man who created Two Face, will be in it. He is rumored to either be played by Alan Dale or James Galdofini (of Sopranos fame)
8.The Scarecrow may or may not return, but if he does, cillian murphy is on standby.
9. I think Heath Ledger has what it takes to have a completely different role than most of his subdued, quiet roles.

yea.....that's cool.
I just checked that out on IMDb and I am stoked.
all i know is that this movie will rock my socks off.
can't wait !
booo
i'll stick with the tim burton one's for my batman fix. no one beats jack nicholson or michael keaton in my book.
i like christian bale, even as batman, but i guess i'm nostalgic in that sense. but, heath ledger as the joker...pfffft.
I'm looking forward to Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two Face
The problem with Tim Burton's original batman is that it had no plot...whatsoever. The storytelling was ghastly. Everything else was dead on though.
I thought "Returns" was much better because atleast he was trying to like...create his own little fucked up message.
Returns was great.
I want to see this movie. I can't wait till next year...damn :(
Same goes with Sin City 2.

i believe you mean 'The Killing Joke'. That story is not to be read literally though in terms of the origin. Nolan is also drawing inspiration from Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams "The Joker's Five Way Revenge" as well as "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" in terms of the story and obviously to some extent "Dark Knight Returns"

he's not being played by either, actually Eric Roberts nabbed the role. dosen't exactly sound like the best choice but he's been killin' it on 'Heroes' lately and he has churned out some great performances in his carreer so he should be fine
This is going to be cool, I like the way how it will resemble the comics more. Nolan has done a great job so far.
Scarecrow will also be in this movie!
He will not get as much screentime as in "Begins", but it's still pretty awesome that he's in it.
where did you hear that Scarecrow would be in it?
From an, apparently, reliable source on Bloody-Disgusting.com.
This is what it said:
"I'd say the Scarecrow's screen time is a little less than in Begins, although it will be more dramatic. Ever wanted to see the Joker through the eyes of someone under the influence of fear gas? The way the script reads, this scene will be incredibly fucked up. It's the scene I'm most looking forward to watching in the cinema"

Seems pretty difficult to do considering how awesome the first one was. But according to most fans and critics, comic book movie franchises tend to peak with the second film.
Two Face is probably my favorite Batman, if not overall comic book villain. So seeing the beginning of him will be great.

Everybody always rags on him but I always loved Scarecrow so it'd be great to see more of him. Actually now that I think of it, Batman pretty much had all awesome villains. Batman>>>>>>>Superman

I'm kinda with you on that. Batman was one of
the films of my childhood. It holds so many memories and is still a great fucking film. Returns also. Keaton
is Batman.
However, I was impressed with Batman Begins and Bale did a great job as I expected he would. I like Nolans vision of the batman world, but nobody will do Batman like Tim Burton did IMO.

I hope it does, but that is fighting talk mate. What gives you that vibe?
BB for me was one of the best films I have seen in recent years. Seeing it at the cinema was fucking mindblowing; every bit of the film was spot on for me.
"The Dark Knight (2008)
Batman and Lt. Gordan work together to bring all the inmates and Crane back to justice. They soon find alliance with the new DA official, Harvey Dent who's Rachel Dawes' new partner. Out of all the escaped inmates, only one hasn't been captured. His name is Jack Napier, but refers to himself as the Joker. He becomes obsessed with Batman and uses his sick, twisted sense of humor to lure Batman out into the open by killing all that are close to him. Will Batman Bring him to Justice or has the Joker had the last laugh? "
Sick or what?
That is why I hope this is better. Two-Face and The Joker are just amazing villains.

that's not an official synopsis of The Dark Knight and the Joker won't be called Jack Napier. this is the offical synopsis from the WB
"In The Dark Knight, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker."
Apparently Nolan is a fan of Dead Presidents

The new Batsuit looks pretty cool. It'll never top the '89 suit for me, but as far as the direction the new franchise is going in I think it's great.
i think nolan's batman OWNS burton's by a long shot.
christian bale is just perfect for the role. i loved the character development in 'begins' and how it took it's time to tell the story of bruce wayne.
awesome movie, the best of 2005.
i have such high hopes for 'the dark knight' and it's definitely the movie i'm looking most forward to (along with sin city 2&3)
batman will now be able to look around as much as he can turn his head..

It's really starting to get on my nerves that all of the superhero movies have to be PG-13. While Dark Knight will still probably be awesome, I still feel that to properly tell the story of certain characters an R rating would be needed. Batman, Wolverine, Punisher, Daredevil, etc. all need R rated films.
Why would have to be rated R?
Batman movies don't rely on foul language, so that wouldn't push the limit. Batman doesn't kill people, so it's not like he'd be extremely violent. If the villains were to kill people, why would it have to be violent to the point where it makes it an R rating.
There are some movies that definitely should be rated R, but I don't feel like Batman is one of them. It wouldn't feel like Batman anymore if it was gory or bloody.

I disagree.
The comics have tons of gore and Batman has been one of the more violent and adult themed comics since the mid to late 80's.I agree other comic-themed films such as Spiderman, F4, Superman, etc, should keep it relatively clean for the kids but Batman is an exception imo.
I think a lot of people are still caught up on the earlier TV and movie interpretations which were more to the G rating standard when the relevant modern day interpretation of Batman, specifically started by "Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" series (which was one of the first mainstream comic book series from a major publisher to acknowledge the average age of comic book fans and purchasers of comics is actually 25 ) , has changed vastly and is far more mature in both nature and content.
Being true and, more importantly, relevant to both what the "hardcore" fans are actually reading now and giving the actual majority of Batman fans, e.g 25 year olds, want they want on screen makes sense to both the fans and the bank balance of the producers hence why Batman Returns did so well both at the bank and critically.
The movie is a direct reflection of the comic book scene and content that is popular today, not in the 70's.Comics don't even have a direct rating system, apart from the Comics Code Authority (CCA) which nobody uses, so you would actually be surprised to know that there is A LOT of adult content in comics so it makes sense to reflect that in the movie versions.
If anything it's actually the previous films that were untrue to the theme, philosophy and maturity of the Batman character and his fans and it's only now that the movie makers are starting to catch up to both the fact that the majority of comic and comic themed/inspired movie fans are not ten year old kids and that Batman is indeed a pretty pissed of guy that enjoys his blood baths.
The days of Batman running around in a quasi-musical G-Rated snore fest with Arnie one-liners are over and I for one am thankful.

I agree,Heath does look scarier, but I think that role came natural for Jack.
they were two different movies. The first batman was trying to be dark true to the comic. But still a bit cheezy, true to the TV show that most people associated batman with. The new batman movies are not trying to be cheezy at all. The two parts were just written differently
god i cant fucking wait till july 18

Batman '89 is just so inaccurate to the comics. Still an enjoyable film though.
The Dark Knight will be my Holy Grail.
Agreed. Heath Ledger, imo, will be a better joker. He was scary in the comics, hell, he beat robin to death with a fucking crowbar.
They should put Robin in this movie just so we could see the Joker do that.
That would be sweet!
Okay I gave in and watched the clip...fucking awesome!
"Dent! I thought you was dead!?"
"Half..."
Gave me goosebumps...so awesome.
aaron eckhart is equally awesome as heath ledger in my book.
this movie has the perfect casting, with the exception of maggie gyllenhaal.
whenever i have boner in public that i need to get rid of asap, i think of her.
She looks like a realllllly hot monkey.

Hahahahaha. She's a good actress though...and from the clips we've seen of her in TDK, she doesn't look that bad. Kind of pretty if you ask me.
I dont like his voice as much as Jacks. :(

for those worried about the PG-13 rating:
taken directly from some of the early reviews...
QuoteMeanwhile, the violence is quite possibly the most intense I have ever seen in a PG-13 film, leaving myself and others wondering how The Dark Knight avoided an R. But what is more disturbing is the unrelenting menace that hovers over every scene like a dark cloud.
QuoteThis movie pushed the PG-13 to the breaking point, and I'm not sure how Warner Bros. pulled it off. Harvey Dent's face post-accident should have pushed them out of the PG-13 all by itself, but it's saying something when that graphic image is actually one of the least upsetting things in the film.
fuckin' a!

i try (not too hard) to stay away from all the glitter and glee wrapped around these things. you may just be let down, hard.
i guess it helps since i never really watch tv either, or go practically anywhere on the internet.
i just listen to you guys ;)
Just saw it on IMAX at the Universal Citywalk. My friend was part of the viral marketing and last week they gave him a free ticket plus 1. Went right after work, got off the subway and up that stupid hill on a tram. My friends were waiting there since 12 earlier today so they were second in line. HOLLA.. Waited for a bit, a lot of people dressed up as Joker. You could feel the excitement.
They let us into the theatre like at 8, they couldn't play the movie yet because they were waiting for the movie to come to the screen. So I took a nap while everyone is all crazy. Woke up and then 5 mins later, it starts. THIS SHIT IS AMAZING ON IMAX. The move is so crisp and just feels really...special. Lots of sweeping city views that add drama, lots of great acting this time around. The first one was great, but this one gets the ball rolling in the first minute. The movie is pretty long, but I didn't care. Lots of action, lots of twists and turns. Just what I expected and more.
I have to say, Heath' performance was amazing. I'm not just channeling what the reviews have said, I'm stating my opinion and it was....so good. Like..it blows my mind how good he was. There was always a smile on my face when he was on the screen. Maggie Gyllenhal's acting is SO much better than Katies. I actually felt like I cared for her.
So all in al, I thought it was a great movie that is sure to please.
you lucky sob! glad to hear it's great ;)
awesome dude. great review. i can't wait!

Same here.
3 hours! got tix for a 12:06 showing!!
words cannot describe this movie's greatness, it was everything it was hyped to be and so much more.
the insane twists, the creepy sound playing whenever the joker was on, the ACTING of Heath Ledger, the classic good vs. evil story, EVERYTHING about this movie was pure brilliance
I have never left the theater feeling so satisfied....everyone go see this movie. it was near perfection
my pants are getting moist.
Hahahah ewwwww.......
my son and i are dying to see this. the only problem is he is only 6. anyone seen the movie think that its to much for kids. i heard its pretty violent, how much cursing and nudity is there?
good.
but not that good. didnt live up to the sum of its own measure. still good though. this is what happens when "mediating -forces" control proclamation.
dont get me wrong it was really good and entertaining.
but far from "brilliant". or "near perfect".
-brilliant films change lives.
-and blockbuster-smash-hits make dicks hard and kids want to climb up the roof role-playing.
bless Heath.
i didnt find any flaws with film, i've been thinking about the ending and ledger's performance ALL day today
by the way it might be little much for a 6 year old, in my opinion. there is some violence, but also just the overall theme and tone are probably better understood by someone closer to 13 or so

Damn..
You know, people keep talking about this movie and how the violence may scare children and I don't get it. I was never afraid of violence when I was a kid. I grew up watching R-rated movies. In fact, I remember being obsessed with the American Ninja films which had plenty of people dying in them. There's even the famous incident of a babysitter allowing me, my older brothers, and my younger sister to watch The Exorcist. My sister did end up having nightmares but we blame that on her being a girl. The only movie that I can remember really scaring me was Labyrinth. I really had to work up the nerve to get past the part where David Bowie first appears in the kid's room.
Frankly, I'm more disturbed by violent images now. I think when I was a kid I really understood that movies weren't real and so someone dying on screen wasn't any different than blowing up an E-frame on ExoSquad. But now that I've gotten older and had people in my life die and seen tragedy and gore in real life, the things depicted in fantasy have more of an effect.

saw it too, great great great movie... Enjoyed every minute of it...
And Heath was great indeed... No cocksucking there, just stating the truth...
I went to a midnight showing and saw it again later that night. Great movie. I feel like every line of dialouge in that movie is quotable. Especially whatever the Joker has to say. Speaking of the Joker, he has by far one of the best musical themes ever. I plan on going out and buying this cd.
SPOILERS
Ending was kind of a disappointment though. Assuming Harvey Dent/Two-Face is dead, Two Face was not fleshed out enough. Also, final battle so to speak between the Joker and Batman was kind of a letdown. The attack/defense of Harvey Dent felt a lot more like a good action scene to close it on.
Also, Aaron Eckhart is not getting enough credit for his job as Harvey Dent. Two-Face is probably my favorite villain of all Batman villains but I absolutely did not want him to show up. I liked Eckhart's portrayal of Harvey Dent so much that I hated the scene where he became Two-Face. Overall, well done to everyone involved.
Just got back from watching it. It was good...I'll give it that. And Heath DID do a great job of playing the Joker. But I dunno...I just feel kind of let down. Dunno why.
*spoiler*
And LOfuckingL @ Joker at the hospital and the "trick" at the beginning.
I saw it Saturday night, I enjoyed it very much. :) Heath was incredible, too bad he's not here to see how good the movie did.
great movie, a lil long tho. they could definitely cut it down some. who said harvey died? i didnt see a coffin ;)
Good flick, first movie was overall better, but Heath was a great joker.
when simple lines like "why so serious?" and "and here we go" are made so badass and sinister, you know it's a great movie
12 hours.
the movie made like 198 million and broke 9 records this weekend.
spoiler:
i was disappointed with 2 face too. i thought they were going to show him steadily going crazy and have him snap at the end and be the next movies villian. it seems to rushed with his character. he definitly looked dead, all laying there not breathing and all. and they didn't show a coffin but they did show a memorial service. and why would batman and the commish go through all the trouble of covering up what he did if he wasn't dead.
i wanna know how they are going to tie up the loose end of the joker. heath unforunatly aint coming back to reprise the role. and at the end of the dark knight he was a live and kicking, just going back to jail. i guess they will just have to say he died in jail or something. they cannot bring in another actor, that would be an insult to heath's performance.
Excellent flick and Ledger was awesome. Yeah, I didn't like that they killed a major villain at all. And they don't have to kill off The Joker since the villains always just rot away in the Asylum until they escape.
remeber that they "killed" gordon to play a trick. could have easily said the same about harvey and locked him up in arkham. also, remember from the first one, scarecrow never died and we never saw ras a ghul die...
if they have a joker in the next one it should be leonardo decaprio. i think he could nail this part
fuck that
incredible, amazing, mesmerizing, disturbing, sad, thrilling, intelligent...and then some.
what an experience.
i think the next joker should be freddie muniz
no they cannot possibly continue the joker storyline...but i would like to see Liam Neeson back...
I bought the soundtrack today. First time I saw the movie I didn't even realize that I was listening to the Joker's theme, just some background noise. But it's such a great, creepy theme. The whole cd, just like the movie, is great. I'll probably be seeing this movie again (third time) sometime this week
nice dude, i'm hoping to see it on IMAX on thursday. should be greatness.
the "joker's theme" was so damn menacing and creeping. it made the hairs on my arms stand up.
That's not related though, it's just because you're a pussy... ;)

good to see we're not all caught up in the hoopla.
i liked it, it was good, but best movie ever, or even one of the best is just a stretch too far fuckers.
i mean i can point out some obvious reasons why its FAR from a perfect score.
for instance (batman's little onry scowl he does whenever he's trying to confuse his true identity) im sorry but its just plain dumb; bad direction, acting, and writing all in that horrid little sequence, trite at its most truest fashion and it UNDERMINES the rest of the movie because its like a scratch on a cd. its there forever and will never play perfect all the way through.
The movie is awesome. I'm going to see it again in Chicago.

exactly
and also the catching a fucking PLANE IN FULL MOTION with some kind of bommerang ( timing it exactly )while holding someone or having that person strapped onto him and not to mention the Joker getting fucked up by the batman in that interrogation room , but not bleeding one bit afterwards.
this shit was the most overrated peice of media along with the new grand theft auto video game.

because it's #1 on IMDB doesn't mean it's the best movie ever. lolz.
there's been a lot of hype around this. everybody are talking about it, thousands of people around the world are gonna see it. it's been a while since a movie have been this hyped and it's hyped for a good reason. it's a great fucking movie.
lots of people are voting on imdb, lots of people are giving it 8/10, 9/10, 10/10... hence the #1 spot.
it has nothing to do with "jumping on the band wagon". you either like a movie or you don't. the majority loves the dark knight.
just look at it as it is...a highly, HIGHLY anticipated movie that managed to deliver the goods. no wonder people are giving it a high score.
and yes, it's a definite 10/10 from me as well.

for instance (batman's little onry scowl he does whenever he's trying to confuse his true identity)

by the way 2 sampson... who did that beatiful painting in your sig?
So I saw The Dark Knight yesterday and I liked it. Liked it very much. I can't really point out bad things about it but to earn full 10 points it should've gotten my pants wet when walking out the theatre. I don't know why it didn't, maybe the ending lacked something, just didn't leave that amazement like for example Se7en's ending did.
But it was entertaining and had no dull moments for the entire 152 minutes. Heath portrayed Joker very well and he was kinda menacing. Not that anyone else did bad work though. Also, the dark atmosphere and the mood with the music were fitting for the movie's overall tone. Definitely the movie of the year so far.
9½ out of 10
I watched The Dark Knight last night after work and I thought it was a pretty cool film. I did get a little confused in some parts but maybe that was because I was extremely tired from drinking about 6 gallons of vodka and Red Bull the night before haha.
Heath Ledger's performance was pretty awesome.

wha? where did that come from
anyways i saw this movie a second time with this girl im dating because her boss rented out the movie theatre and everyone brought beer and toked, so i was pumped to see it again!-but i must admit it was worse on the second viewing. the only thing that went better than the first viewing was the jokr's roll. the rest was ok. the beginning (after the bank robbery) was retarded and batman (christian bale) sucked so hard everybody (even to my suprise) in the theatre was laughing at most of the film. quite sad actually.
the gripe i've heard about him is that his batman voice is too gruff and deep.
but yeah, F that. I disagree, i liked it even more the 2nd time...and christian bale is fucking awesome and was great in it

yup
I wish I had a batman voice. But like my own. that way people could be like " no way man, your Trey voice was way off." " dude you need to add more M A N to that Trey voice!".......
christian bale is awesome dont get me wrong but its hard to recover from a roll like this.
like colin farrel with alexander... wait he always sucked :( not so much him but his moviess.. ok sidetracked.
christian bale is great in most of his films but its hard not to notice he only plays that "static meandering" sort of role, with a lathargic, though honest-to-self perserverance (in character).
anyways terminator 3 better not suck too bad cause im watching for the full circle effect of things...
hummm brah
Saw it a week or so ago.
Awesome. Truly fucking great.
But yeah, his voice kinda irritated.

batman begins or dark knight?
tough question.
they're so different. the dark knight is probably the most epic of the two.
but i also loved the way "begins" thoroughly explained the origins of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
as an overall best movie? The Dark Knight.

It's a movie that you sit and watch... There really is nothing special about this movie. It was good but not incredible and should not be number 1 on imdb's 250.
I saw it a third time recently. Still good.

You're telling me you wouldn't want to be Heath Ledger, to go out right when you play your best characater in the best movie of the decade not even leaving people with a sequel goin out at the same age as all the rest of the greats.

do you think he has a legit chance? i sure hope so.
i genuinly thinks he deserves it. dead or alive, his performance was mindblowing. and yeah, i think he has a chance of winning it. the support behind him is pretty huge.
he will remain as one of the most memorable villiains ever.
definitely. i can't wait till the dvd comes out.

I have it :D on my computer. ;)
Meh, im over the Dark Knight ..i watched it once with my gf, then once on my own..and honestly it IS a phenomenal movie, but i just cant watch it all the time like i watch "The Big Lebowski" or "Mallrats" or something. its too intense for every day viewing..maybe ill get high and watch it again one day though.
Tbh on repeated views it's pretty boring for me personally.
The ending sucks, I always enjoy Heaths scenes, but that's about it and again...the ending sucks.
It's an epically cool film yet I wonder how it will stand the test of time.Take out the exceptional acting and impact of the Joker and it's pretty thin fare.
First watch I was blown away...second I was underwhelmed....now I'd rather watch 70's horror or Aliens for the millionth time.

there once was a time in college where my roommate and I would watch Mallrats literally once per week.
That's either sad or totally awesome.

LOL. you could say that about any movie really (not the joker part :)). without good acting and H.R. Giger's kick ass designs Aliens would have sucked.

yeah its a bit of both...my copy of Mallrats re-starts itself when its finished, so you dont need to press play again to start it..
also in college, i literally had that same movie in the dvd player, playing over and over again for a week..eventually i needed a personality readjustment coz i was becoming like a combination of Brodie , and Jay mixed together..totally disgusting, and a pothead.

I pre ordered my Blu ray with the bat-pod last week and I cant wait for it.
There was no way I was going to get it on best buy.
Well I finally got to watch it. I'm not a big Batman fan but I can say this is a great movie. Ledger's performance blew me away, it was so well done. The cinephotography is great, the FX's, the direction, everything. So very nice to watch.
Watched it again tonight on DVD. That is definitely a movie best seen in the theatres. Maybe because I saw it three times in theatres, but it was just sort of odd seeing everything so small. It made it less epic.
i saw it again last night too, on dvd.
for me, this movie just gets better with each viewing. such a fantastic flick.

There's never too much of Aliens.
Which reminds me I haven't seen that movie this year and the year is almost over. I need my at least annual fix.
Though The Dark Knight became one of my favorite movies instantly, it left me a bit disappointed at times. Hopefully it'll get even better with a little more inspection.
will anybody pay to see it again in theaters in january?
I'm thinking about it. Maybe in IMAX. I have yet to see it there.

yeah, i think it was because they were gonna close the mall to renovate it because it was a piece of shit mall. It's legit now after the renovations, but it doesn't look anything like the movie. I remember pieces of it from going there awhile ago, but i was like 10 years old when they did the renovations. i go to college with the sailboat kid, which is pretty funny.

http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/murphy%20and%20labeouf%20for%20batman_1089796
hhhhmmmm....not sure how i feel about this. i heard a while ago that chris nolan was totally against having a robin. and that he wanted to stay away from villians used in previous movies, which both cat woman and riddler were. so i'm not really believing this until i see some other evidence. although eddie murphy would probably be good at the role if it turns out to be true.
Fake rumor. Not happening.
No one has approached for anything related to the next Batman film but Christopher Nolan, and he's probably directing The Prisoner first.
There's no script, and hence no new characters to attach actors to.
