Title: The Fall of Troy
Post by: marty on May 22, 2007, 10:49 PM
I looked through 6 pages and couldn't find anything on these guys!??!?!?!

Someone here (can't remember who) recommended this band.

I can't get enough of them!

They're quite addictive.  The new album is phenomenal.  I've got all their old shit and eps and the albums.  They definitely stand out and they're touring with the 'tones, can't be it.

back to the topic.

I think new album is not something special. DOPELLGANGER and S/T are fuckin; awesome. GHOSTSHIP EP is a pure sweetness!

Title: Re: The Fall of Troy
Post by: yoda on mars on May 24, 2007, 07:38 AM
Like the universe! Lots of solos and heavy stuff. If you haven't heard them beginning with DOPPELGANGER, then SELF TITLED then GHOSTSHIP and the last MANIPULATOR.

I'm not disappointed by anything they've put out.  I fucking love the new album just as much as Doppleganger or their other eps and early stuff.

So it's metal, right? I'll check them out at some point for sure but I kinda lost interest in heavy music a while ago. I guess Deftones are the only remotely heavy band I have in regular rotation. The last Machine Head album impressed me too.

I saw them sunday night. They were alright, the guitar riffs were pretty much badass...but as soon as that dude opened his fucking face, I hated them.

He's so...wannabe emo.

i think they really suck.

who fucking has to catch his own spit to be cool, anyway?

and i had to see them four times, three as openers for deftones and once as an opener for poison the well.

and they are emo.  the only people paying attention to them during the concerts were the white boys with afros and tight jeans. and if they didn't have the afros, then they had that hair-flippy thing that my chemical romance has.

and just to further prove my point, they have a lot of merchandise down at Hot Topic. (emo/shitty emo-metal headquarters)

i think the guitar riffs are badass and the band is genuinely talented, i enjoyed seeing them live even though their sound set up was shit. and i dont really think they are emo, mainly because i heard a lot more screaming than whining.  but they definitely have an emo fanbase.  i guess i consider them one of the better bands deftones have toured with over the past few years

details?

they just played and it was damn fine. at the end he screamed a bit which was not that good but its the fall of troy so...

then he said which song from which band it was (i dont got the impression that many people already know it)

after that thaty startet to play digital bath for 5 secs or so and i thought they would go on with another tones song. but then they interrupted and went on with the intro of bored but stopped that after another 5 secs.

it seemed the singer was pretty proud claiming "they are friends of us" (the deftones) or something like that.

yeah and before change they also played a new very fast song that was awesome too. its not recorded yet and i guess there was no title for it.

whole show was in berlin

The Fall of Troy is in town on the 6th of this month, so in 2 days.... Umm, they're alright, I'm very impressed by some of their stuff but some just bore me. I've checked out some live stuff from Youtube, but there isn't that much good quality videos of them, if any. Are these guys good live? Will it be worth it to go see them or will I be severely disappointed? Haven't decided whether to go or not yet, it's either the concert or listening to Bonobo and eating chips for the entire evening.

when i saw them i thought they were great! the crowd was totally not into it but they acted like all their die hards were there at once, and that is pretty admirable. like someone else said, the sound setup was shit and the first nioght i saw them the bassist mic wouldnt work at all. but overall especially of Thom they put on a great show. ALOT of energy! and plus he is phenomenal on guitar, a regular old virtuoso.

I used to play the fuck out of the self-titled cd, I still don't think anything they've put out since is nearly as good. I hate the overproduced, auto-tuned sound of the "real" releases. Same thing with alot of bands, like I still listen to R. Borlax more than any other horse the band album.

I'm still extremely pissed I didn't get to catch the two shows they played back to back in N.O. with Deftones.

You emo bashers are idiots. Get over yourselves. Musical taste is subjective so quit being narrow minded. This is a really good band.

I personally love screaming though he's not the greatest screamer in the world. He's not the greatest singer in the world, but I like his style, and i like the fact that even though he sings like an emo bastard, he has no real connections with that scene at all, and doesn't claim to it either.

The music is superb. It always has been, and it always will be. I'm a huge fan of these guys. One of the few "Hardcore" bands i actually like anymore. And yes they are hardcore although not entirely.

I just decided to listen to Phantom on the Horizon today, and it's INCREDIBLE. I was moved. (Explaining my post in a old thread. but i couldn't resist seeing as how i love the fall of troy.)

Each to their own, bro. But I found the album amazing. The songs are alot more structured (IMO) and I think Thomas' vocals and lyrics are great.

Give it a chance! I always find an album is going to be good when it takes a few listens to find the grooves.

Dearest friends from all corners of the world,

I write to inform you that after nearly 9 years, 5 full-lengths, 2 bass players, hundreds of shows, and numerous other achievements and follies, Andrew, Frank, and I have decided to end our career as The Fall of Troy.

This band has been my life, my love, the air I breathe, the food I eat, and what helps me sleep (and sometimes keeps me up) at night.  I love and cherish the music we've made, the times we've had, and all the great friends we've met along the way.  Andrew, Frank, and of course Tim, will always and forever have a special place in my heart.  But it has come time for us to call it a day.  After everything's said and done, there is no drama, there is no blow out, it's simply the three members of this band are on three different paths in our lives.

I always hold true to the fact that it's better to go out in style, to ride off into the sunset, than go down in flames.  This tour coming up with Envy On The Coast and Twin Atlantic will be our last go round, and we really hope that all of you will come out and celebrate what has been so unreal and unbelievable – let's dance one last time!

We would really like to thank everyone that's ever been involved with the band, managed the band, booked a show for us, let us eat your canned food, sleep on your floor, asked us for a picture, caught me when I've almost been dropped, put out a record for us, driven us through a late night drive thru, or anything else any of you could possibly look back on and enjoy what this band was...Fun.

So make sure you come out to "The Marked-Men of 2010 Tour" as it will be our last hurrah! We love you, and will be giving as much love as you've given to us at these shows. So that's that! We love you with all our hearts, thank you from the very bottom of them, and goodbye comrades.

R.I.P.
TFOT
2002-2010

With A Heavy Heart,
Thomas Joseph Erak

PS. I have no intention to stop making music! Quite the opposite actually – but until then see you at the shows!

I saw them open for the deftones a couple times in 07.  Terrible opening act for the deftones.  The singer/guitarist was very talented but they didn't need to be touring with the deftones.  Styles of music just didn't go together.

I think they ended just before it got too ugly. Their last effort was good, but they were trying to hard to push that "progressive" envelope. Tons of talent with a definite lack of direction.
