Title: The Electronic Dance Music Thread
Post by: ToneDef on Jul 14, 2007, 06:29 AM
It's discussed every now and again on here and I know there are some fans, Europeans mainly. My man Gaz is a trance fan I know.  I understand it's a lot more underground in the US, but if given a chance I know some people can learn to love it rather than pass it off as some bullshit people dance to in clubs whilst outrageously high. There's actually some really great House and Techno coming from the US and has been for a long time.

When I get time I'm gonna pack this shit out with information and various mixes/individual tracks as It's a type of music I've been in love with for quite some time since I was in school and the whole late 90's Ibiza sound was essentially going global. This is no doubt gonna be a sleeper topic but I'll update it every now and again when I remember incase someone happens to drop in and feels like taking an interest.

EDIT: Over time I'll update this first post with any songs/albums etc organised by genre or artist. Anything posted in the thread I'll link to here also.

Trance

A state Of Trance Yearmix 2006 - Armin Van Buuren - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OX1AOPEY

^^ The idea behind these two albums is evey year the listeners of Armins radio show ASOT  will vote for their favourite tracks of the year. The best tracks are then mixed into a compilation by Armin. He only uses the main cut of each track though so they're pretty relentless and fast paced. I love the fuck out of both albums. The mixing is fucking perfect.

I do like Trance and Techno, despite being pretty much a n00b when it comes to quote any artist. I'm familiar with Carl Cox, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Underworld and...that's pretty much it. And Portuguese-native I sometimes club to Dj Vibe and Pete da Zouk. Open to any suggestions though.

I'm digging it and I'll dance to it. Too bad in clubs nowadays, they play mainly hiphop and radio hits and I can't understand what is there to dance to. People just stand and sway. I always go request some Prodigy when I'm in clubs to show some mad movez yo!

Just yesterday I was listening to Tiesto's "In Search Of Sunrise(s) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Search_of_Sunrise_%28Series%29)". Some good stuff there.

It's fucking ridiculous.

Speaking of ridiculous, find the song "Gantz Graf" by Autechre.

Absolutely, not a fan either, I usually just get wasted until some proper music is played. And speaking of Tiesto, he did an entire set live in my hometown, in a place near the river. Entrance was free so the place was packed, it was pretty cool :)

No problem man, I'm real glad you like it.

I'm ripping A CD called Resonate 2 as I type. It's a double album of Hard Trance. More hardcore than what I've posted already but a fantastic album.

Title: Re: The Electronic Dance Music Thread
Post by: ToneDef on Jul 23, 2007, 08:32 AM
I admire the more leftfield shit for it's technicality. The Aphex Twin is very respected among producers for the sounds the guy creates and his detailed knowledge on synths and how they work. He's a very very talented guy. Some of that shit doesn't fit into the category of EDM though as it's not technically 'dance' music, i.e 4/4 kick, steady rhythm, ups and downs etc. It's more Electronica stroke Ambient stroke Fucking Crazy.

You ever tried dancing to Autechre's Gantz Graf? It's fun.

I got a hard house box set, but it's unmixed. Just like Track 1 - Track 2 rather than each tune flowing into the next. It's a 4 CD jobby though so it'll take time. I'll slap some other tracks up though.

Some big names man. Upload some shit, I'm tryin to get this thread bumpin' (which'll never happen).

I got a new mixmag CD mixed by Digitalism to upload soon.. It's mainly fucking Nu-Rave though which is gay, but still a decent mix. I bought a shitload of music off Trackitdown again too so I'll prob get those up too.

I like alot of Electronica/Dance Music.

My Recomendations:

Royksopp - (Very down tempo/mellow) - Have 2 albums out, Melody A.M. and The Understanding, both are very good.
The Knife - (electronica/synthpop, got some great vocals)
Shapeshifte -  (Very soft Drum and Bass/dub/soul, also an New Zealand group)
Concord Dawn - (Huge on the New Zealand Drum and Bass scene, first 3 albums are very heavy DnB, the 4th features alot more vocals, but awesome none the less)

Can't upload anything, I've got Dialup, but check 'em out.

Just up whatever you want man and I'll link it in the right sections and shit.

I picked up Delierium by Dave Pearce yesterday. It's just come out and got some great reviews. It's a decent double album of fresh underground trance. I'll rip it soon.

I've also got a ton of beatport downloads to put up at some point.

Who you think's gonna top the DJ Mag Top 100?

My main two votes were John 00 Fleming and Sean Tyas, although neither will be up there.

Hey guys, i recommend you guys try  both of these albums out, you cant go wrong with these two albums by Royksopp. This is a very unique Techno/Trance/Electronica band.

Melody AM
(http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a386/noeling/Albums%20I%20Own/MelodyA.jpg)
http://www.mediafire.com/?emcvnnndptx

^This album is just more chill music than dance really, but it has quality hits. They even made the song "Remind Me" for the Caveman Commercial.

The Understanding
(http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x55/veronchi/album.jpg)

http://www.mediafire.com/?1ryztud9jym

^This album has a bunch of hits in this one, and it 's very fun to listen to also just like Melody AM. On The Understanding the song "What Else Is There" features the girl from the band The Knife.

I also heard there coming out with a new album by this fall. Also watch some videos on youtube. You will be amazed at how creative this band is. Tell me what you guys think of them.

Been listening to the new Tiesto & Paul Van Dyk ablums latley, absolute class. I've also just got back from a mad holiday in Newquay and seen Marco V at Baracuda, fucking ace.

sweet. i used to dj ragga-jungle which sounds more like stuff from older Shy FX. a lot of "DnB" releases that come out today all sound the same to me... so i've kinda been avoiding collecting newer stuff.

if you like trancey sounding stuff - i reccomend looking into my current favorite producer called Klute. his latest CD has a lot of ambient/trancey influenced drum n bass.
good stuff!

I don't mind either at all. Drum n Bass production blows my mind on occasion. I'm not into either of them enough to be clued up on what's new at the minute though or who's who.

yeah... like i said in my other post, everything that's comming out currently all sounds the same to me.

some all time favorites of mine are

LTJ Bukem
EZ Rollers
Aphrodite
DJ Hype
DJ Zinc
(old) Panacea
Aquasky
Dom & Roland
Datcycde
Klute

i have a ragga mix i put together on my other computer that i've been meaning to upload. i'll post a link here if anyone's interested

Title: ELECTRO/TRASH/ NEW RAVE
Post by: cEvin Key on Nov 15, 2008, 03:18 AM
I just realized that sharinglungs even got topics about emo, but there isn't none about the new trend, Electro.
Actually I'm a fan of Electro! some acts like Crystal Castles, MSTRKFT, Abstract Keal Agram, Boys Noize, Lcd Soundsystem, Simian Mobile Disco, The Presests, and so on, caught my atention, i'm comparing this with emo because of the trendy side but probaly electro is totaly the oposite.
So what you guys think of this genre and are you guys fans of it??post about some bands you like and give opinions, etc...

We've had multiple EDM threads. All those bands wouldn't fit under this genre. How is electro a "new trend" when it's been going strong for the past 40 years. Depeche Mode? Kraftwerk?

but yes, I'm loving this new "electro" that s seems to be inspired by rave music like acid, drum N bass, jungle, and new wave etc.One of my favorites is The Presets. They're the new Faint to me.

In my perspective there is Electronic music wich englobes all the types and genres of electronic music, from idm to dance to drum'n bass, industrial, dubstep, break beat and so on( you know what i mean) and i think Electro kinda of fits in those subgenres.
you wont say acts like "does it ofend you?yeah" are the new kraftwerk, they're bot electronic music but they are very very distinct.
so yeas what I mean by calling "Electro" are all those bands inspired by new rave, trash,etc... it's like for example Slayer and my chemical romance they're both "metal" or lets say "heavy rock" but very distinct.(thou I think when it comes to electronic music the diferences between genres and bands are even bigger)
I hope I made any sense to you.

The new wave of electro music is shit. Music for people who don't have a clue about music. Crystal Castles? Just a load of samples they've taken form their favourite artists. Nothing new there.

I think Burial could change your life if you don't know who he is already...

I have more clues about music than you might think yet I like electro. in fact I know lots of people that basically music is they way of living and are into electro.
I don't think one thing has something to do with anoter. some people don't have clues about music and are into mathematical and prog music...
It's a matter of taste I guess. but you are entitled to your opinion.
Some electro stuff are kinda of waky. but there are some pretty cool acts out there.

He sounds like...like he met an 8 year old that made electronic music and played shows for other 8 year olds and then completely ripped him off and played shows for old people. They're like dancable songs that sound like children's songs not directed towards children. http://www.myspace.com/dandeacon

I'm digging it...not my favorite dance album, but some good ones on here. I love how aggressive and violent their songs are. It's pretty goth sounding haha.

goth?  I don't hear anything goth on it.  Its either banging electro or Italio disco on there.  The album was a bit of a let down for me.  half the songs are old before the album came out, and all the new ones are the weird previously mentioned "Italio disco"

only new one on there that's crazy in your face is Analectus.

these guys created the song for a generation though, in WARP.  amazing.  I've seen them 4 times this year.  They're crazy live.

HOT CHIP- One Life Stand

I think this has to be my favorite Hot Chip album. Their previous records have been very innovative and fun, yet this album feels like AN ALBUM. The sound is darker, the music is dancier, the music is more soulful [not that they weren't soulful, but still..], house-influened! Already, I think this can be one of the best records of 2010! What do you guys think?

Standout tracks:
*Hand Me Down Your Love
*One Life Stand
*We Have Love
*Take It In

CRYSTAL CASTLES-new songs!

Tracks "Celestica" and "Mother Knows Best": I like Celestica's dream-poppiness with ambient electronics. I was hoping they would expand on the sound of the last song, "Tell Me What To Swallow", from their self-titled.

Then the song "Doe Deer"...this song is intense

Fucking sweet! What's that song called? II first heard of him through that Prince remix and assumed he was just another throw away dubstep dj.
I'll definitely  have to check some more of his stuff out.

Anyway back to what I came here to post... anyone ever heard of RESO? It's weird how pretty much all dubstep sounds like diarrhoea to me except him. I gave him a listen after Frank said he was good. He's pretty diverve
