The Empyrean
November 15th, 2008

The Empyrean is my new record and will be released worldwide via Record Collection on January 20th 2009. It was recorded on and off between December 2006 and March 2008.  It is a concept record that tells a single story both musically and lyrically. The story takes place within one person, and there are two characters. It contains a version of Tim Buckley's, 'Song To The Siren' and the rest of the songs are written by me. My friend Josh plays on it, as does Flea. It also features Sonus Quartet, Johnny Marr and The New Dimension Singers. I'm really happy with it and I've listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides. It should be played as loud as possible and it is suited to dark living rooms late at night.

- John Frusciante, November 3rd, 2008

The Empyrean Track listing:
1. Before The Beginning
2. Song To The Siren
3. Unreachable
4. God
5. Dark/Light
6. Heaven
7. Enough Of Me
8. Central
9. One More Of Me
10. After The Ending

So apparently he quit the Chili Peppers again.

bummed about this, but he should do what makes him happy.  It'll be interesting to see who they get to replace him.

I think it's a good thing that he's qutting the band. He's much better on his own.

it's good he quit the chili peppers because they aren't a very good band.

i also think it was insanely brave of him to cover 'song to the siren' seeing as elizabeth frasier pretty much owns that song. his cover version is second only to hers.

If you'd heard the original Tim Buckley version, you wouldn't be saying that ;)

That is definitely my favorite. Frusciante's a close second.

i've been listening to tim buckley since i was 12 years old. i discovered jeff buckley through tim.

i said 'cover version', not original. have you heard frasier's version? look it up on youtube. this mortal coil - song to the siren.

Yeah i've heard it. Used great in Lost Highway.

Still, it's my least favorite version.

are you saying...i can't believe i'm saying this, but are you saying you don't like elizabeth frasier's version? i just expect everyone who has heard that song to absolutely love it. i know that sounds really fucking stupid, expecting you to like it and all.

john's version is pretty good, but elizabeth - wow, it has me in tears all the time. jeff barely spoke of his father but he even said how much he loved elizabeth's version. also he was completely tapping that for a while hahaha.

I never said I didn't like it. I just like the other versions more.
