Of course!  If anyone's into heavier music of any kind and they don't know the Melvins it's a shame.  They actually got me into heavier doom and drone, I think from them I went into Burning Witch and Electric Wizard.  I love the Lustmord album, dark ambience with the Melvins touch.

I saw the Melvins a couple years ago. It was crazy. The Melvins and then right after that was Jello Biafra and the Melvins.

One of the best shows I've ever been to.

I say that alot though. I just like going to shows.

Also, if you're into the Melvins, you will probably dig Boris, a Japanese stoner/drone/doom band that takes their name from a Melvins song.

the biafra stuff was good.

my favorite melvins show was when they payed with helmet at the middle east down in boston. buzzo implored the audience to break out the whiskey and ax handles because the other band (helmet) were assholes. all in good fun though :)

The only other Japanese band that I really dig is Melt-Banana. They're this crazy Lightning Bolt-esque noise rock band that sings in Engrish.

i like the fact that most japanese bands would be looked upon as novelties or fluff here but are taken completely seriously over there. its kinda like hihi puffy ami yumi, rock stars there but would get laughed out of the building here
Title: Re: melvins
Post by: Necrocetaceanbeastiality on Oct 24, 2007, 08:02 PM
Yeah, Melt-Banana toured with Tool and now like 90% ( pulled that number out of my ass) of Americans that actually know who Melt-Banana are hate them...because they're Tool fans and Tool fans are for the most part, fucking stupid.

Post by: goldpony on Oct 24, 2007, 08:08 PM
kinda like dir en grey and the deftones. for all the people that talked shit about them on the tour, i felt they were the superior opening act compared to fall of troy.
Title: Re: melvins
Post by: Necrocetaceanbeastiality on Oct 24, 2007, 08:10 PM
I thought they were utter shit.
Title: Re: melvins
Post by: goldpony on Oct 24, 2007, 08:13 PM
i didn't mind them at all, they were loud and noisy and the set i saw was pretty good. i'm not saying i'll buy their albums but i did feel they were better than most people thought. i just didn't care for the marilyn manson esque look and stage show they put on
Title: Re: melvins
Post by: Necrocetaceanbeastiality on Oct 24, 2007, 08:15 PM
Honestly I wasn't even listening. I saw the singer and then tuned out.

I thought Fall of Troy were alright though. They're from here and I had heard good things. Musically they were pretty impressive, but the vocals ruined it for me.

I wasn't even all that impressed with the 'tones. I just don't like big venue shows in general.
Title: Re: melvins
Post by: goldpony on Oct 24, 2007, 08:49 PM
where did you see them at? most of the venues weren't that big. when i saw them, they played at local club, it had pretty good capacity but was really intimate too. i was even on the balcony for the whole show and felt like i was right on top of the stage

I know, right? I had a small collection of a few songs I dug up on Limewire a long time ago, but they disappeared and now my harddrive is so full that I really can't download any of the albums that I want. I think I have a Melvins album lying around somewhere...but I have no clue where.

bullhead is good, but its more of a hardcore melvins fan album (they make a lot of noise albums, including this one). I would start with houdini, stoner witch, the maggot, crybaby, a senile animla or nude with boots before you delve into bullhead. just a suggestion
