I mainly listen to hip hop and when i hear Chino rap it kinda sucks imo like the lyrics from back to school. It sounds cool on some songs but I think he should stick to moaning and screaming.

Mixing hip-hop with metal or rock doesn't seem so demonic as it did back in '99 '00 '01. As long as it's done well, in a tasteful and meaningful way... They had one demo for SNW, mostly beats, and I though 'twas quite good... if they did that I wouldn't mind.

4-5 years ago I would. not now. it'd just feel silly. I like their new aggressive edge better. and the mellow stuff is as good as they get imo.
yeah i think a song with some rapping would be okay on a new album. the rapping on engine no. 9 kills. they should try and do something like that.
but yeah I also think that those days of the deftones are over. chino hasn't rapped in a song since around the fur, really.

I think rapping would be great on the new album, if its done right. Chino sounds great when he raps, would love to hear another song or two lke that.
Like I said people into rock and rock bands would not have touched rapped vocals or hip-hop in the post-nu metal era (ie 2001/2002+) because of the connotations it brings - limpbizkit, Linkin Park, Rapcore,etc.. It seems, with the dust settled, more acceptable now, if it's done in a meaningful, perhaps intelligent way. I'm not talking about about Engine #9 or BTS-type rapping but more staccato vocals and hip-hop-esque beats (particularly pre-gangsta) wouldn't seem as bad as before.

I brought this idea up before and I said that for the most part their music just doesn't fit rapping into it very well anymore. Maybe more trip-hop type stuff (Lucky You, PCP, King Diamond, etc.) but that's it.
I think live is fine, just not on the album... ;)

someone told me, i don't remember maybe it was like 6 years ago, that when artists scream in their music for example chino (except he used chester from LP) they spray some liquid down their throat or drink something that helps them from messing up their vocals chords. is this really out there, if it is then maybe chino should use it so that he can prolong vocal damage.
I do believe there is a drink or something that coats the vocal chords to prevent strain on them. Not sure what the stuff is though.

I think if there should be any rapping...it should be sometype of spoken word (Though I haven't heard CHI's work so I don't know if he might be able to contribute) But in the likes of Saul Williams, Tom Waits, and Cedric Bixler Zavala (when he does a distorted voice in eng. or span. similarly sounding like TomW8sish type cryptic stanzas) As Stef and Chi pull some distored-drone type sounds, and Abe busts a more downtempo staggered broken almost dub type drums. Oh and of course Franko spinnin his wax cause he doesn't really cut them up much..but he does a lil sum'n.
Or if working with a rapper...some that Chino should consider are El-P and Aesop Rock, for a more experimental type style. But he's Chicano and from Cal so call up Soul Asassins get The HIll, hell tell Muggs to grab Sick Jackyn n it'll be a fogged up stoner type joint.....WITH Muggs or someone Producing so it'll come out BETTER THAN Black Moon or whatever the title of the track of b-sides is...BReal can mosdefinately come with better shit than that, and CHINO..I guess he wasn't too fukt up that night..or when he wrote the track....give dude his drinks, spliffs,pills, whatever his poison is to get him in that mindstate to bring a FUKEN BEAST OUT N LEAVE DeFUKENstruction!!
