Title: Meshuggah
Post by: theis on Apr 24, 2008, 01:51 PM
(http://www.transformonline.com/music/articles/images/meshuggah1.jpg)

This band needs their own thread.

Crushing and downright awesome, Meshuggah is probably the heaviest band I've listened to (and liked).

Brain melting technicality, scarring vocals and clever lyrics is what make this band awesome.

Can I get a woop woop?

woop woop!

More heavy bands should be this talented, then they might actually be worth listening to. I loves me some "rhythmic illusions".

Yes, this band is just fucking good, dunno how else to put it.

Didn't enjoy the last few albums 'I' and 'Catch 33' that much, but then the track Bleed leaked and I prolly listened to it nonstop for like 10 times in a row... That was fucking it, Meshuggah is back.

'obZen' is an amazing album. 'Chaosphere' is my fav tho.

i can see you not liking Catch 33 that much (its great imo) but I?? That song is a fucking BEAST, it's so beautiful. Just non-stop crushing riffs.

Yeah, it's not bad, but not meshuggah at their best.. 'I' I mean and c33 had drums made by machine not Tomas "god" Haake.. Crap.

Straws Pulled At Random.

i've seen that clip at least 100 times, but it seems to get better each time i watch it.

i'd have to say Haake ranks right up there with Portnoy as one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Yeah, that clip is so fucking good.. Lövgren doesn't look at his bass once.. pro.

NOTHING has been playing in my stereo pretty often lately, love Stengah, Rational Gaze and Straws Pulled At Random, prolly my fav album from them when I think of it..

I am literally counting down the days...

I just hope they don't cancel AGAIN :| I had tickets to their co-headline show with TDEP last November at Academy 2 but they cancelled cos they wanted to finish obZen completely or something. I almost cried hahah :P

Though I'm quite glad they did cancel in a way, cos I got to see TDEP headline in February at Academy 3 [which is half the size of 2, you stand at the stage and it's my favourite venue] and now I get to see these bastards play there too :D My boss is letting me out of work early to go queue up and he's meeting me there when he finishes I think  ;D

Favourite CDs are Chaosphere, I and Nothing, and obZen is an incredible CD aswell - I listened to Combustion like 12 times when I first heard it. Favourite songs are probably... Straws Pulled At Random, Corridor Of Chameleons, Combustion, I, Future Breed Machine and New Millenium Cyanide Christ.

You lucky piece of shit! I could see them live this year in Finland, but my work comes first.. I have a work day when they play (sucks?.. YES!).
ps. your fav songs are mostly my fav 'shuggah songs.
Title: Re: Meshuggah
Post by: Battle-Axe on Jun 23, 2008, 12:48 AM
Why thank you  ;D

That's bollocks you didn't get to see em though - luckily the latest I ever have to til is 6PM and I work in the city centre so the longest it ever takes me to get to a venue is like 10 minutes.

I also heard rumours Textures are gonna be playing support which would be soooo awesome. Saw them live last year and they were sweet as hell - plus they're doing a UK headline tour in December so it would be pretty good promo for them.

 :P

I'm soooo excited it's unreal but I'm half expecting them to cancel you know :[

I heard they cancelled a few of their European dates already not so long ago cos apparantly they don't like playing live that much because of the amount of pressure they're under. I love how on their tour dates page on meshuggah.net it says "Here are all planned gig dates. Please notice that dates can be changed/cancelled in the last minute, so it's a good idea to check with the local arrangers or ticket vendors." Too fucking right!

^__^ thanks

Only 11 weeks left to wait :p In a weird way it still hasn't sunk in properly that I'm actually gonna get to see them live in a 500 capacity venue when on like, Meshuggah The Movie there's clips of them playing to like 5-10,000 people  :o I can tell that me and my best friend are gonna be like the only 2 girls there or something as well haha :P

went to see these fuckers with Ministry, and they got caught at the canadian border with their bongs out, and were held up, not being able to make it.... the pain was equivalent to getting raped by a black pornstar with no lube. i was/still am very choked
Title: Re: Meshuggah
Post by: Battle-Axe on Sep 08, 2008, 12:56 AM
I'm actually listening to it now :]

It was the album that got me into them cos a friend at college sold it to me.

I semi feel your pain though when they cancelled the tour last year but I'm finally getting to see em and it's not sunk in properly yet haha. They've played 2 dates so far of this tour and from what I read on last.fm, their sets were pretty short cos of Tomas's shoulder or something. There's only one support band as well so I was hoping for at least 90 minutes :(

Have you seen them live before? I saw them for the first time on tuesday and I'm still excited about it ;D

Setlist was:

Perpetual Black Second
Bleed
Stengah
The Mouth Licking What You've Bled
Electric Red
Suffer In Truth
Rational Gaze
Pravus
STRAWS PULLED AT RANDOM! <3

Then Jens is like... "we're gonna play an old one now that we haven't played for a very long time cos we got bored of it. This is Soul Burn!"

Then they finished with Future Breed Machine.

I have videos of SPAR and Soul Burn that I'll try and upload tomorrow. I was pretty annoyed that they only played for an hour though, but they more than made up for it. Absolutely amazing band - I almost got a setlist as well but security wouldn't give it to me cos they were laminated and they're using the same ones for the rest of the tour.

But yea, it was mint.

I couldn't resist but get my hands on the Dvdrip, and to say the least, it is terrific. My flat mates already complained because of all the noise, but obviously I had to watch the whole thing.

Interesting interviews as well in-between songs. A guy asks Tomas whether they'd ever play "I" live in concert, and he answers something like "We probably never will. That track is totally random, and nobody knows how it goes".

Meshuggah Discuss New Album in 2011 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3JT7ivNIvM&feature=player_embedded#ws)

Tomas talks about the writing process, that they wanted a different approach this time.
Jens on the other hand, he's just a fun dude. Hardly says a word, but stares into the camere like he's completely nuts. Really nice guys these two and the rest of the band.

I'm so looking forward to their new album!!

Yeah same here more or less.  I never get bored of them.  Its like 15 years ago I still got into them, and still I listen to all their albums on a regular basis.  I really love the technical direction Meshuggah and other bands of the era opened up, but theres noone whos topped them.  In the spirit of the live album, heres my fave from it:

Meshuggah - Perpetual Black Second live (Alive dvd 2010) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUoHLOdMHig#)

04/14 Nottingham, UK – Rock City
04/15 Glasgow, UK – Garage
04/17 Manchester, UK – Academy
04/18 Norwich, UK – Waterfront
04/19 Brighton, UK – Concorde 2

What about a London show on 420 ? ( which is also a Friday)?
I need to find a way to make it to either Brighton or London.

Phenomenal. Every step of the way. This blew my mind for ah hour. I smiled the ENTIRE time, and headbanged quite a few times.....and I don't ever do that.....like ever.

This is lost book of the bible good. Meshuggah being the forbidden fruit good. 9th noble truth good. This album will change things.
Well said. It's just balls to the wall awesome.

Oh wow, guess I need to look into a Chicago date for that tour. That lineup is fantastic.

That b-side is kind of 'meh' though. I could see why it was left off Catch 33 or whatever.

Looks like there is a show in Chicago, if I was you I'd be so going.
My friends and I are thinking about going to one of the Eastern European or Scandinavian shows in April. We'll see what happens with that, but I sincerely hope they don't bail on me.

Yeah thanks man for the heads up. This weekend I'm seeing BTBAM, Russian Circles, and Coheed, then a week later this tour comes to town. Definitely have to hit both since I've still never seen BTBAM or Meshuggah live.

BTBAM, Coheed & Cambria AND Russian Circles the same night? fucking sw33t!!! Remember when I said you Americans always get these sweet tours, this one is definitely up there, just like the Meshuggah one of course.

Have fun man, wished I could go to these as well. My concert season will begin in March with Kvelertak, then hopefully Meshuggah in either April / early May, followed by Cult Of Luna + The Secret in May. Only went to very few concerts last year, so I realized that definitely needs to change ;)

I hear that. I've only been to one in the last 8 months or so. And hey you got The Secret - i'm under the impression that they've never been to the American Midwest. Been looking out for them for like 8 years since 'Luce'.
