Title: Depeche Mode
Post by: devilinside on Sep 10, 2008, 02:51 AM
I'm really shocked they don't have a thread here. They're such an influential band to soo many...so show them some love!

:)

What's your favorite albums, songs and artwork?

"Clean" is their best song.  Classic band, "Playing the Angel" proved they're just as relevant today as they were in the '80s.

As far as favorite songs...I think I'd have to choose Behind The Wheel. But I love all their music.

AND!!!

Rumors that are noteworthy:

- It is expected that tour dates will be announced October 6th. At present time we don't know if the band will hold a press conference.

- Tickets are expected to go on sale in October as well. This was hinted on Marek Lieberberg's website (the German tour promoter). Last time tickets for some shows went on sale on the same day they were announced.

- Tour is expected to start in May of 2009. According to DM.de, Marek Lieberberg has said that it will start in Israel.

- According to people familiar with the process, it is expected that the initial leg(s) of the tour will be open air shows, with an indoor tour following later in the year.

-September 9th the band are gathering at an undisclosed location as work continues on their new album, to be released in April/May of next year! This will be the third recording session so far!

Martin wrote all the lyrics until the last album. Then, dave started contributing with 3 songs for playing the angel. From what I have been reading in intervirews, I guess this will be a dave lyrics friendly record. Which I don't think that's necessarily good, since martin's write style is so unique.

Fav album: Ultra. It's just a perfect album. I can listen to it when I'm happy, when i'm frustrated, in every situacion imaginable and It just NEVER gets boring or out of place.

Fav song: Waiting for the night before. The lyrics are purely genious, and the climax that song has is the most relaxing thing I've ever heard, which is strange considering it's a really dark song, would compare it with If only tonight we could sleep for this. The Bare version that has been released a few years ago is lovely, too.

Have you listened to Hourglass?? Dave did an AMAZING job on it. And while I completely adore Martin and everything about him,I think it's good for Dave to finally get his turn to write instead of being "the sexy singer" of the band. (tho he's still cute at his age)

And are you talking about "Waiting For The Night" from Violator? I like that song, but i listened to it after a friends funeral in 97 and it kind of depresses me now.

And i'm sooo glad to see Ultra love! It's such a great album. Useless,Barrel of a Gun and Home are my faves.  Lately i've been listening to Black Celebration and Exciter.

And someone gave me this,it's pretty good.

"here is that track from the "Rare, Deleted & Promo Only Remixes" folder from The Complete Depeche Mode. It's also located on the Remixes 81-04 bonus "Rare Tracks Bundle," but listed as Behind The Wheel/Route 66 rather than the other way around. "

DM is the only band I would ever pay more than 100 dollars to see live at this point in my life. One of the best bands of all time...

I'm a Music for the Masses kind of guy.

I went rollerskating the other day and Kingdome by Dave Gahan went on the loud speakers. I got so excited.

Actually Hourglass was like my fav. record of 2007, I was walking through a store, and heard dave's voicce. Then In the 4th track I thought, "goddamm!! how it is I dno't know this depeche mode record? mkicks ass!", and then I asked the seller and told me it was dave's. And Despite the record being reallyu really good musically, there's some lyrics that I didn't feel that much. But I have to give him credits for lyrics such as Saw something, Miracles & 21 days.
Congrats for the violator picture!!! another cute disc. Sorry for you to have Waiting for the night spoiled, that's really sad. It's one of the few songs I really "trust".

What has been said about depeche's new record's sound?

that song and video are about his heroin abuse.. actually the whole album ultra is about his heroin use

ultra might be one of the best cd's ive ever heard

So Martin wrote about Dave's heroin problem? Hmm...... I can see where you can get that from the video.  I agree,it's one of the top albums..but it cant beat Violator.
Title: Re: Depeche Mode
Post by: Deftones-argentina on Oct 08, 2008, 09:48 PM
In my book, it can. I never enjoyed personal jesus to be honest. and Enjoy the silence is a good track, but I think they could have used other synths to make it a bit more agresive, or something like this (just my opinion deviLady, don't take it as absolute truth). Really liked the bare version of clean, though. made me like the original more, too.
Title: Re: Depeche Mode
Post by: devilinside on Oct 08, 2008, 10:25 PM
You have to keep in mind, that there was 7 years between albums. Violator was from 90,and it sounds like it was from then. And for the time,it was good for what it was. It just happens that I like the sound of that album, and it's the first album I ever heard by them. I'm not offended you prefer Ultra over Violator,we each have our own taste.

I see we Deftoners have pretty much the same taste about DM albums. I fucking love exciter so much, sweet sounding depeche is unbeatable. You can't go wrong with a song like Shine.

but personally I Never Liked Songs of faith and devotion, haven't heard it deep enough but It's really strange the fact that the only songs I really liked where the singles (opposed to many of the other depeche albums).

Now I wanna read some playing the angel love, I can't believe that the have done like 11 albums and the latast is one of their strongest efforts. My favourite tracks from there are The darkest star and sinner in me. By the way, anyone else percieving beatles influence on Damaged people?

Songs of Faith and Devotion is my least favorite. I just cant get into songs like Condemnation....uuhg.

and as for me Violator is hands down. Songs of Faith and Devotion takes time to grow on you which is amazing when it does, but it's a complicated album during dave's major era on drugs.

Fav. song would have to be "Clean" and "Waiting for the Night".

I like "Wrong"

It doesn't really have a chorus, which is sad, but I don't care. I love that DM can still remain relevant while bands like U2 and The Cure fall short of their own glory.

Depeche Mode are pleased to announce they will restart their interrupted Tour Of The Universe in Leipzig, Germany on June 8th. On May 12th, lead singer Dave Gahan suffered a severe bout of gastroenteritis, leading to his hospitalization and the cancellation of the Athens concert. While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed. At doctors' orders Dave Gahan must take a break until June 8th, to ensure that he makes a full recovery. The Leipzig show on June 8th will be the first concert following Dave's recovery.

Jeez, am i the only one that thinks Depeche mode sucks?

i mean, it seems their music is designed for sentimental , old drunks. who feel that DM somehow captured a "spirit" of some kind in their music.

not even a bottle of whiskey could get me to like them

you ever see Orgazmo? just a great movie you need to see, if you haven't.
but there's a scene where Matt Stone's character says "I don't want to sound like a queer or nothing, but Depeche Mode kicks ass!"
hilarious, but yeah for some reason that reminded me of that.

i like DM.

I think you are one of the rare few that I've heard say they don't like them. DM are HUGE influences for many bands,INCLUDING your beloved Deftones.  But whatevs....if you don't like them why even bother posting in here?

Ah maybe they have one or two good songs but...on the whole im not that into them.

like when i watch their music videos i just see some slimy old men who still seem to think they've got the moves..

i even read in Q magazine thats their singer said "You have to be either drunk or high to get a kick out of DM"...i think he's right

i see.. i cant understand why a tv station would have a band do that. unless its a band that would totally butcher their own songs live, lol. cough deftones. cough

Another case of "don't care for the album, but after seeing it live, love it!" I didn't care for SOTU at all,but have grown to LOVE it now...the song Corrupt is very good.

On another note,Songs of Faith and Devotion is slowly creeping up on Violator as my favorite album. I used to hate SOFAD,but have had it playing over and over in my car and I just adore it.

Bringing back that thread from the dead...

Delta Machine, thoughts ?

After one whole listen I'm surprised by the really intimate and slow atmosphere that's built throughout the album. In that sense it reminds me of older albums like Ultra or Exciter, but keeping the same sound from their last two releases (Playing the Angel and Sounds of the Universe).

You can also hear that Gahan has had a growing influence in the songwriting, sometimes Delta Machine feels like one of his works in solo.

Stand out tracks so far : Angel, Heaven, Secret To The End, Soothe My Soul, Goodbye (excellent closer).

Maybe one or two bad tracks to me so far, the opener (Welcome To My World) and The Child Inside, the one sung by Martin Gore (the guy just can't stop showing off with his annoying vibrato).

Post by: N0S3BLEED976 on Mar 26, 2013, 04:10 PM
I like the new album. Definitely superior to SOTU.
My current favourites are Angel, Heaven, My Little Universe and Alone.

Oh, and Martin is a great singer. "Macro" from Playing The Angel for example, which is sung entirely by Martin, is probably my favourite from the record. It's so dope!
Title: Re: Depeche Mode
Post by: devilinside on Mar 28, 2013, 03:22 AM
I'm trying to like it. Been listening to it for a week, and a few are catchy. And yes,Martin is not only an amazing writer/composer but singer as well.
Title: Re: Depeche Mode
Post by: Gee on Mar 28, 2013, 10:02 AM
Of course Martin has a great singing technique and in that aspect he's much better than Dave. But he's just overdoing it to me. The only songs that I really like from him are The Things You Said (Music For The Masses) and to a lesser extent Home (Ultra).

And yes it's true that this album has much less catchy tunes than on the last two albums. Although Heaven or Soothe My Soul (next single ?) get quickly into your head.
Title: Re: Depeche Mode
Post by: Fireal1222 on Apr 04, 2013, 08:41 PM
Home, and Macro are my favorite songs sung my martin.

i heard the new depeche mode single on the radio today at work. but i havent heard the new album yet. although i saw the video of them playing "should be higher" live on letterman, and it was amazing.

Completely in love with this album. Didn't think I would get into it,but there is a lot of heavy bass thats drawn me in.
