great, great band. love all their albums (even the major label album has grown on me recently)
Opposite of December is my favorite probably

http://www.myspace.com/poisonthewell
is it good? i'm in class right now so i can't listen to it, but they're one of my favorite bands ever, i love like every one of their songs. versions is the tits, but my favorite will probably always be you come before you.
haha god they really are fuckin good. and yeah, the new is song awesome.
really good song. like it alot.
that was pretty tight. kinda remind me of beware cuz of the like slowness and the heavy part at the end. definitely gonna have to listen to it more to sorta get their new feel. seems like they're trying to change more and more between every release... i'm down!
i love the new song!
They haven't had a bad release imo.
Amazing act. Love all of their releases equally.
Btw, does anyone have a good version of their Smashing Pumpkins cover, "Today" ? Thanks a lot.
here the Purple Sabbath mp3

Isis? - I thought more something along the lines of Deftones, actually.
It's heavy and melodic, what's not to love?

haha yeah man passwords are such pains in the ass
Does it ask for a password when trying to download the file? - I've uploaded files many times and no one ever asked for a PW. :-S Sorry about that, though.
Hehe, yeah, i'm a lurker atm. There are only 3-4 threads on here I want to read or be a part of. :-) Oh, and love your sig.
And New Fast is nowhere near the level of Purple Sabbath, imho.
it asked for a pass when i tried to play it in itunes. :)
no worries though.

I love Poison The Well. I didn't like Versions at the first listen, though. Now it kinda rocks.

Versions "kinda" rocks??? - It totally rocks, man ! :-)
Yeah, it actually does. I don't know why, but I somehow compare it a bit to ''Adrenaline''. I think it's how the songs all sound the same the first times you hear them, and then you get to know them and their differences.
maybe, i should listen to it again, i was so disappointed the 1st times
Versions is one of my favorite albums of all time. It has everything a good record should.
However, these b-sides are mediocre at best.
II/III EP comes out the 20th.
supposedly they're all done with the entire new album as well. releases in May on Ferret.
is the new ep just another 2 tracks?

You know at first I didn't like how Poison the Well changed their sound, but if anything it made them more distinct and it's a truly unique style they're rocking. I love it.
still one of my favorite bands. i'm really looking forward to the new full-length.
Great band.
One of the thousands that are both under-rated and under-appreciated.
Regarding the new 7", I feel that the quality of "Shuffle" is below average PW material, but i really like "Bowie". I really hope that they re-recorded Oceanbreast for the third 7". That song is amazing.

They did re-record oceanbreast for the jap version of Versions. I really like Shuffle, but the sound quality is horrible... I think I have a bad rip, and just need to fork out 99 cents for the iTunes version. Bowie is good. Considering these are leftovers of Versions, I don't mind if they're slightly forgettable. Still good shit.

Yeah, but I only buy records; vinyl. I bought the 12" of Versions and on the back, it says that the bonus track is Oceanbreast, but when you play the record it's "Wreck itself taking you with me". So I hope it'll be on the last 7".
Anyone here think that PTW could do a very good Helmet cover?

The Tropic Poison - wookubus
(2:21 PM PST 03/24/2009)
Poison The Well have announced "The Tropic Rot" as the title to their new album which will see a June 16th release date via Ferret Music. In the meantime, the band will release the final installment in their three part vinyl series, "III/III", on May 19th. A CD version compiling all three of the releases dubbed "I/III / II/III / III/III" will precede it, arriving in stores on April 18th.
I think I'm going to buy that EP, and I cannot wait for the new cd
The Tropic Rot comes out in July. They are touring with Madball this summer...haha FUCKIN MADBALL GET SOME
so excited about everything PTW
Supporting Rise Against/Thursday on a UK tour in November.
soo yeeeah. The Tropic Rot is only like 5 weeks away. can't wait to hear ANYTHING from them. shouldn't we be hearing maybe 1 song by now?
finally a new song on their myspace "Cinema", after 3 listens, I REALLY like it http://www.myspace.com/poisonthewell sounds like a great continuation from Versions, which is sweet
here's the art and track list, i cant wait to get this
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/85/PoisonthewellTROPICROT.jpeg)
1. "Exist Underground"
2. "Sparks It Will Rain"
3. "Cinema"
4. "Pamplemousse"
5. "Who Doesn't Love a Good Dismemberment?"
6. "Antarctia Inside Me"
7. "When You Lose I Lose as Well"
8. "Celebrate The Pyre"
9. "Are You Anywhere?"
10. "Makeshift Clay You"
11. "Without You and One Other I Am Nothing"
I need to check out that song and I like the cd cover minus the font. I think they could have picked a better font
Sounds a lot more like You Come Before You which is a GOOD thing.
SUCH A GOOD SONG
Wow, his voice sounds pretty heavy on this song. At first it sounded like a 'Versions' b-side, but it soon became it's own and got better. Yet another cd I'm looking forward to.
Can't wait!!!
DAMNNNNNN! The Tropic Rot is soooooooooo gooooood! Downloaded it tonight and been listening to it for about 6 hours straight. Def. different than anything they have EVER done. Some of the vocals are really, really catchy. Strangely enough some of the instrumentation reminds me of Neurosis which is weird in itself. Ill be buying this for sure.
yeah I haven't listened to anything since I downloaded it either. Fell asleep listening to it last night too. Amazing album, for me, the best album I've heard this year since the new dredg.

Karnivool?
this was probably just tagged wrong, but how come my track numbers say 1/12, 2/12,...,11/12? hmmmmm...
that would be awesome if there was some secret/bonus track somewhere, but as far as i know that was a mistake.
i saw them in 2003 when they open for deftones.... they are pretty good. I like them alot.
WOW just heard the brand new Album by PTW and well.. This may be my fav record released in a long time. I cant stop listening to Antarctica inside me. I have fallen in love with them again. I highly reccomend you go listen to it on there myspace page and go buy it when it comes out in 2 days :))))
www.myspace.com/poisonthewell
Antarctica Inside Me is of my faves too. And what makes the album so much better for me at least, is the fact that upon first listen, Pamplemousse was probably my least favorite track. But after hearing it multiple times, it really is a simple song, but so catchy, I really like it now.
I've literally had this album on repeat for the entire week. It's perfect. From the first to last track.

The entire album just sounds flawless.I've been listening to it since I got home from Roskilde Festival, and it's easily one of their best records.
def! its soooo awesome. nothing else i can say
Flawless is the perfect word for this album
Shitballs ! I gotta go check on the interwebz for that then.....
I can't stop listening to The Tropic Rot. The melodic pieces, the raw energy, the experimental bits, it all just flow so goddamn well together. Everything's so coherent.
And not only has it made my love for PTW even greater (didn't think it was possible), but it also made me appreciate Versions so much more. I really love that album, don't get me wrong, but now it's like everything falls into place. This is their new and improved sound. And this is what makes them so amazing.
Sorry, just had to get this praise out, guys.
I just picked this up yesterday and I'm on my second listen, first one with headphones. Someone said earlier that it's a great headphone album and I can't agree. It was enjoyable enough listening to it in the car but holy shit there's a lot going on you don't pick up without headphones. Jeff's screams are ridiculously throaty in a great way. He seems to be screaming his lungs out all the time. It all sounds great.
Anyone else think that "When You Lose I Lose As Well" is one of the best off the new album? I can't stop listening to it. This is such good music. I don't even know what kind of genre of music you could call it.
it is one of the highlights. great lyrics. i really like the acoustic beginning, the chorus is very good, and the buildup is amazing.

The Tropic Rot finally clicked with me. Fucking mindbowing.
My favorite song from that album isn't even actually on the album. I think "D10 D11" (the b-side from the album) is the best. I really don't know why it wasn't put on the album.

haha that's true. i mean it is jersey shore. anyone who watches 5 minutes of the show wants to do the same these people.
anyways, saying exactly what theis said in the DEP thread, PTW is exactly the same: they only get better with age. I've loved them since The Opposite of December, when that came out it was easily my favorite "metalcore" album. And with each release since that, they've only gotten better. Even after all the slurping I did of them after Versions, Tropic Rot is simply a bigger, better classic album.
Lovely sig and av!
Your av and sig offends me as an adolescent schizophrenic vampire.
yeah well, that's just like your opinion, man.

Poison The Well have further clarified their recent decision to go on hiatus. A newly posted series of tweets from the band on their official Twitter account offered the following insight:
"Just to be clear..PTW is NOT completely done. We just want to take a break for a while. I know we will create again, that's not an issue. we just have to be in the right head space and want to do it. Let some time pass and I think we will be good to do a tour or a record. We are just a bit burnt out on everything."
well this news blows for me, hopefully the wait won't be too long. i adore a lot of bands, but i consider PTW my actual FAVORITE band amongst them all.
So I've been a big PTW fan for awhile but I never got around to picking up Opposite of December, Tear From The Red and You Come Before You. I finally picked up Tear From The Red and You Come Before You recently and they are both amazing albums. You Come Before You might be my new favorite PTW album.
It's so frustrating that this band doesn't get more credit. It's almost cliche to say it now but they are a big part of the popularity of lots of heavy music today and instead of releasing album after album sounding the same they did their own thing. Love love love.
yes yes yes! I've said it a million times before, but I'll say it again: PTW is my favorite band. No question. Go and get "The Opposite of December", though. That was THE album that got me into the melodic hardcore/metalcore/awesomecore genre, and will always be held in high regard for me, even if Versions and Tropic Rot were better overall. Nerdy was on repeat for me in high school.
Yeah Nerdy's a good song. I don't know what happened but for some reason PTW albums are near impossible to find. I feel like I have a collectors item now. So sad that this band's work is so hard to find.

Fuck yeah, dude. They were definitely my first hardcore/idon'tgiveafuckaboutgenresrightnow band, too. Nerdy was definitely my jam freshman year as well. Fucking thrice and thursday being on my part of the deftones tour instead of ptw.
I think I'm gonna have to go with You Come Before You, though. That album's never gonna lose it's feel for me, if for nothing else, that fucking riff in Zombies Are Good For Your Health and the buildup in Apathy is a Cold Body. That tune is just plain gorgeous.
inherit myyy shoooooes, they were to hard to fill anyyywayyyyyyyyys
gonna listen to that album now then. I remember that tour. Got stuck with that same line-up. I'm a fan of Thrice and I used to really dig Thursday, but PTW would've been titties instead of either of those bands.
Yeah, wasn't denali on the ptw leg, too? if so, god, did we get the shaft. I didn't check out thrice until after the show either, i was still a 16-year-old noob at that point. but yeah, for sho one of the most consistently awesome bands evarrrr. are they working on new shit? i'm lazy.
i honestly don't remember if denali was part of it, but the sad news from PTW is that they're on hiatus. so yeah, shit blows for the foreseeable future on that front.
Oh wowie, i s'pose i could've scrolled up like two posts.
That fuckin sucks, but hey, cave in got back together faster than i thought they would so hopefully that's the case with ptw. *crosses fingers*
I'm not too worried, hiatus basically means they got tired of the tour then record cycle and they probably just want a break from it. It must be exhausting not having a home base for 10 months out of the year. Do that for ten years and I'd want to take a break as well.
and now for something completely different... at least we have Sleigh Bells which has their old guitarist Derek Miller doing the music. Granted, it's not heavy at all but it's some damn good noise pop, which will definitely make my best of 2010 list.
it might seem odd, but maybe this hiatus/break up is what they needed. maybe the fans needed to be jolted. this band has never had good support from labels or fans, they always let the band down. maybe this will prove to the labels and fans how important they are and how badly they need support.
PTW cant sell out a 200 capacity venues, while sleigh bells can sell out 1k+ on their first tour. see what i mean? no respect lol
