QuoteTOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan told The Pulse of Radio last week that he and guitarist Billy Howerdel have been working on some fresh material for A PERFECT CIRCLE, the group they formed in 2000 while Keenan had time off from TOOL, but which has been inactive since 2004. However, Keenan revealed that the band might just post a couple of new songs online instead of doing an entire album. "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."

I can't believe it :___)
(couldn't find any APC thread :S)
sweet. but i'd rather Maynard concentrate on TOOL.
Maynard concentrates far too much on TooL imo...he becomes overly "abstract" at times..
this makes me pretty excited actually, ...shit yeah , apc....love this band!

QuoteWhy I'm leaving Nine Inch Nails
So, I've been wanting to write something for a while now explaining why I am leaving Nine Inch Nails at the end of the year. Not that it's THAT big of a deal or important compared to other real shit going on out there in the world but I figured I'd take a minute out to explain anyhow. I know a few people are aware that I'm having my 3rd child in January and basically....that about SUMS IT UP!
I've just been gone too damn much lately and if I hadn't spent so much time on the road in recent years (between NIN, A Perfect Circle, Devo, Sting, The Vandals) coupled with having 3 kids (come January) then I'd still be out on the road in the new year. It's just that the rate that NIN has been touring (and will continue to tour in 2009) is something that I can't keep up with right now. My kids need their Dad around and I want to be around for them. I am definitely not retiring or "done touring" by any means though. I just need to be home a bit more next year.
I am not leaving because I got a better offer from another band or because I don't enjoy it.....it's one of my favorite situations I've ever been involved with and I already miss it (though we still have 5 more shows to play).
If you saw a NIN show in the past 3 years then you'll know that to say I LIKE playing up there is an understatement and that I give it my all every night. It's much more than a "job" or a "gig" for me. I'm a big believer in Trent and his music and feel fortunate and privileged to have had the chance to work along side of him and be a part of what he does for the past three years. It is something I am truly proud of and he makes most the other ones out there feel pretty small time. I have faith in the notion that we'll work together again at some point, in some fashion. But for now I need to go teach my 7 year old boy how to ride a bike.....nothing can really compare to that (except maybe an all night hotel coke session with some hookers.)
Josh
well that's awesome for josh, good guy right there.
that's indeed good news. I can't wait to hear some new songs by apc.
it's nice to know APC isn't completely dead. I'd be a lot more excited if they were actually going to release a new album, but hopefully this will eventually lead to that.
I would much rather him work on A Perfect Circle. Fuck Tool haha
Tool's really good, but they disappointed me with 10K days. Laterlus is a definite album.
lateralus is a perfect album, it will go down as a classic of our time.
Every album of them, for me, is very very very good. And favourite.
and for APC, 13th Step is amazing, through Mer De Noms is quite, ehm, unfinished.
I think all albums from both Tool and APC are perfect in their own way and I don't prefer one band over the other. it would be awesome to get new APC now though. on the other hand, I consider Ashes Divide as the new APC.
I don't get why people say MJK is wasting time with Tool. their albums are like 5 years apart and they don't tour that much. right now he's wasting time with Pucsifer though.
uhm, I do not like Ashes Divide.
just not my kind of music.
and yes, MJK should stop making pussies burn on fire.
Ashes Divide wasn't nearly as interesting as APC but I find the songs well written and a lot of it, including Billy's vocals, remind me of certain parts of APC.
ashes divide wasn't bad, but i found it boring. there was that made it stand out for me. i love all of maynard's projects, even puscifer which doesn't seem to be too much love here, but TOOL is definitly my favorite. and i love 10,000 days. how was it dissapointing? jambi, rosetta stoned, right in two, vicarious, and 10,000 Days (Wings Part 2) are some of TOOL's best songs.
of course 10,000 Days was absolutely awesome.
i agree, but i constantly hear people go on and on about lateralus and say that 10,000 days wasn't as good. i think its better. lateralus was more ground breaking as far as their sound from one album to the next. but i think 10k days was a great progression and an all around better album. that being said both albums have too much filler.
i dont think there was any progression on 10k days, it just seemed like recycled bsides off of lateralus. and the pot sounds like it could have been written during the undertow era. and Bored, mer de norm unfinished? how so man, that album is waaay better than 13th step!
Well, I discovered 13th Step before Mer De Noms, and it just seemed more completed, or even formed the way APC sounds in my head now. And Mer De Noms was different, though, I'm not saying it's bad - it has really really good songs. It's just that I will always prefer 13th to MdN
i bought mer de norm the day it came out!! i remember watching the video for judith and thinking it was the best thing ever. it was the first time, at least for me, i got to see maynards more sensitive side. songs like orestes, thomas, magdalena, the hollow and brena are fucking amazing man. the lyrical content is far superior to that of 13th step. and if anything 13th step is unfinished not mer de norm. imho.

APC actually led me to Tool so they're pretty special for me, not just a side project. but I remember thinking almost right away that it was cool how Maynard could take a step away from his Tool self and become something different in APC - something a lot more real and vulnerable.

same here. at least we can agree on APC :)
I LOVE Mer de Noms.
I'm gonna hit all of you in your faces!
Ok but before you do, listen to mer de noms again.
hahhaahahahahahahahahah.
love magdalena. But my fav songs from apc are rose and The noose.
To me, 13th Step sounds rushed and uncomplete. 'We're putting out another album for the sake of it' kind of thing. Mer De Norm is an incredible album. Very personal. The songs on Mer De Norm sound like they were taken apart and reworked over and over again to get that perfect sound. But The Noose is a great song, yes.
I'm actually surprised APC are back. I kinda felt like they commited commercial suicide on purpose and I was guessing that Maynard just didn't want to do it anymore. I mean, first with the silly video for The Outsider. then the whole cover album which kinda sucked and a remix of Pet etc. their original image went away and everything just felt like no one really cared anymore.

that being said both albums have too much filler.
To me, 10,000days has a bit mORE filler than Lateralus..i think lateralus had a 'darker' vibe to it too, it sometimes became sinister even. it goes into recesses of the mind that 10,000 days stays away from..subliminally anyway.
Maynards voice is a bit more ..friendly? on 10 k i thought..its more pleasant even, its by far his best singing performance i think, but LATERALUS is an epic album..i dont think it has been beaten yet in the "best TooL album" category...yet. just my opinion but, maybe the next album..which should be due in....5 years maybe?

This is how I feel when listening to 13th Step. There is something half-arsed about that album.
regardless of what you say :

and, uh, okay, I will agree that on musical scale Mer de Noms could be a bit above 13th Step, but when I listened to 13th Step, maybe I was in good mood or something, cause when after a while I watched the video of Judith, I was like - what the fuck is this shit? Then after a while again, downloaded the whole album, listened through. It had it's pros and cons, but still, it was never better that 13th. Just because I have absolute sympathy for 13th Step and songs like The Noose, The Package or Vanishing and Gravity. Cause they're just bloody amazing. Yes, maybe songs like Blue are a bit less 'amazing', but still, on the whole he album it's atmosphere, which is beautifully maintained by nice guitar play, emotional side of MJK (even though yes, Mer de Noms was more intimate from the side of MJK).

i totally agree with this. emotive and amotion were complete crap.
Mer De Noms and 13th Step both sound like completed works of art to me. Both amazing, beautiful albums. Very different too.

A Perfect Circle have officially announced their return via the following press release:
"LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 – A Perfect Circle have returned from their self-imposed hiatus. The band, led by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) and Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), will embark on a five-city tour this fall (dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced shortly).
Shows in Phoenix (Marquee Theatre), Los Angeles (Avalon), Seattle (Showbox at The Market) and San Francisco (The Fillmore) will be three-night stops with each night featuring one of A Perfect Circle's three albums in its entirety (Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe). Las Vegas (The Pearl) will be a two-night outing (Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step).
The band will perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 27.
A Perfect Circle have sold four million records in the U.S. After the band announced their hiatus in 2005, Keenan focused on Tool , launched the multimedia project Puscifer and worked on his burgeoning Arizona vineyards. Howerdel went on to form Ashes Divide who released their debut album, Keep Telling Myself It's Alright, in 2008."
Fuck. Yes.
Nice
great news
personally i think thirteenth step is by far the bands best work. it takes me back to my high school days and everytime i hear that album it reminds me of this time of year(autumn).. i actually hold that album very dear. its so beautiful in every way. and i listened to it alot while doing alot of changing
as far as lateralus and 10000days goes.. lateralus is by far a superior album, 10000days does sound like an album of lateralus bsides as someone else previously stated

Fuck. Yes.
Why would they waste their time playing anything from eMOTIVE. Such a piece of dog shit. Other than that, this is awesome news. It would be nice to hear some new material as long as it doesn't sound a goddamn bit like eMOTIVE. And if they were going to play "Passive" at all I would hope they would play "Vacant" instead. This mini-tour will probably be the extent of activity by APC.
Yeah, why play eMOTIVE. That album is terrible. I like 13th Step but Mer de Noms is by far their best work to date... Hopefully some UK tour dates will be announced for next year
Aw, hell yes! I've been waiting forever for new material from them.
Cannot wait to see them, being a fan for so long and not getting the chance to see them is infuriating, so this will be great.
And this is pure joy:
A Perfect Circle - The Noose (Live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8kLmU0DUUc#)
Does anyone have a download link for Just Me?
God Maynard recently posted on his Instagram confirming he is working on new material for Tool and also new material from A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. It appears Tool will have their new album out in 2014. He posted:
"For my 666th IG photo, I'd just like to say... Music is happening on ALL fronts. Always. #lightenupfrancis #shitupandletmework #tool2014 @aperfectcircle @tool @puscifer"
Alright! That sounds awesome! Been waiting for a new APC album!
Meh, just read that the releases from APC are a live box set and a greatest hits album. Only new material coming any time soon seems to be a studio version of that new song they played live.
And the interview ended with something that could be interpeted as Maynard saying APC is dead, but I don't know. Never really trust something he says 100%.
