the anaheim live version is the best deftones song ever, i dont know how many times i've had it on repeat. i was devastated when i realized it wasnt going to show up on saturday night wrsit, i was like "maaan what the fuck is wrong with these people". the song is like being to theatre. but i dont know if putting it on eros is such a good idea when we're looking forward to new deftones... i would appreciate if it would be b-side to a single thou

Regardless of anyone else's opinions or inevitable shitty facts, IMO they should release all the shit on the Bob Ezrin Demo Sessions that didn't make SNW onto an EP.  Fuck sakes I already have the whole thing burnt onto disc so that I can listen to it any time, but I would still buy it if they released even only just 2/3 or half of it as a EP or something... maybe I'm just crazed  :D

The best stuff they wrote during SNW-era made it onto the album.  FOD wasn't that great of a song and neither were the rest of the demos.  Get over it.

i want to see the song as a b-side, in a single or anything else... it's goin' to be bad if they just release this as a new Eros track (OMG i started calling Eros the new album even when i don't like the name!)

yeah, i'm for this but as a b-side single or sth else..

Ezrin didn't  produce shit. he was there while it was recorded, but listening to those demos, nothing was produced. I think the point was that the song would be produced well by Date.

On another note, iceache is right. This song will never be released. Never. Don't expect to see some Ezrin's stuff on Eros, if Eros comes out somewhen.

if they can release teenager idiot pilot version and black moon on a disc anything is possible. but for them to put it on an actual full album is light years away, maybe a rarities collection. studio version or improved live version

Teenager and Black Moon were both finished songs. Completed, they didn't go back and record.

it's really simple, Chino doesn't give a shit about FOD. i don't think he could come up with anything he really liked for it. so if he's not into it it's not getting done. good luck getting him to finish vocals on tracks he likes, much less ones he doesn't. he won't touch it again. 99.9% sure

1) they could record it,make it a studio version, would take a day or two.. bonus track,b-side or rarities vol 2

2) they could make the anaheim live version better quality like "if only tonight we could sleep" and put on a rariets vol 2.
theyre not so picky with songs on those collections, thats what i meant about tennager idiot version and black moon

Deftones - Finger of Death (Buffalo) - MASTERED * better quality * (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rc3E4r1Jyw#ws)

Man i get tired of hearing about buffalo/finger of death. People act like that song cured cancer or something. That song is probablly never going to be officially released and in my opinion wasnt all that good. So lets leave it back in '04 or '05 when ever it came out.

well crenshaw was written for around the fur but didnt make it. then released it as a b-side to white pony years later.
dont see why they cant do it with this track, its way better than anything on snw and it wont take much of their time. its epic man.

and if u dont like hearing about it,then why do you write about it in the buffalo thread insted of letting the discussin die. you really should change your tactics dork
Title: Re: Buffalo/FInger of Death

but crenshaw was finished in 97, and most importantly Chino had ideas/melodies for it. FOD is fine how it is, it's there for whoever likes it

you sure bout that? cause..  crenshaw sounds much more produced to fit white pony than the massive production of atf. i always thought they touched crenshaw during white pony times to fit that era

Title: Re: Buffalo/FInger of Death

the song doesn't really call for lyrics and studio treatment IMHO. i like alot of those demos just how they are, i can see why some weren't used, they're better as just music. sometimes lyrics just don't fit certain songs even if they're good. just depends on the singer and if his mind can open up with melodies, or if he just likes the music, but can't force any ideas vocally

im sure you've heard the crenshaw live track called crenshaw's punch in around 98-99... its a little bit faster and is way more aggressive, chino screams his lungs out. i always concidered that version the atf version... but then with all this white pony "nu metal is so big now, we rather take left and slow down and be different"-times-,they re-recorded a more calm version because thats who they were at the time. the b-side single version of crenshaw put out in 2000 would be totally out of place at atf but would fit on wp.that cant be a coincidence

well mascara had no screams and was maybe more mellow than crenshaw. i'm pretty sure it was recorded and finished with ATF, it's the last song they wrote. according to what Abe said about it in the booklet for bsides

Post by: jesusinabowlofdirt on Mar 25, 2010, 11:24 AM
yeah but im talking about the production, mascara got a heavier sound, which all atf songs have.

i think they wrote it like an aggro song in 97, played it live aggro in 98-99 and then released it as a soft version so it would fit the white pony era.

you think they wrote it soft in 97, played it aggro live in 98-99 and then released the soft version again.. very flip floppish. but hey, who knows

Personally I like Finger Of Death as a title better. Buffalo is kind of a dumb name might as well call it Wombat. And i do like finger of death, i just like starting shit. its good entertainment for those boring days at work.

And its nice when some cocky asshole thinks they know everything, and then oh no you dont.
So Mister Dick taint of reason. you have failed now delete your account and start over. Maybe no one will know who you are.  But im sure your superior Deftones intelect will shine through and once again you will have to restart.  Good luck at failing at life for another 20 years  ;)

to me "Buffalo" reminds me of like early America, like the early settlers. Im sure i read in some interview that Chino felt Saturday Night Wrist had a historical part to it. In the booklet for the album there's that painting of a woman with a hooded figure by a lake. That's the vibe i get of the album.

i think you got nearly beatin to death with snw as the background music. no other reason to hate a good album. it's your opinion though, no big deal

and the ezrin demos represent snw too, like lovers does ST. they left the best song of the ST sessions imo, lovers

I completely agree, lovers is a great track... sums up mid/new era deftones perfectly.

I rock the fuck out when I play this song and then the track after it from the Ezrin demo sessions, I call #8 "Finger of Death", and #9 "Buffalo" just because it fuckin feels right.

This is no exaggeration, but I think the verse riff for Finger of Death is my all time favourite riff. I just can't describe the feeling I get when I hear it. It's awesome. Plus it's fuckin' fun to play..

finally, some lovin. which the song deserves!

Indeed, it's one of their best and they know it.

you better put that shit on youtube man, you're killing me!

What FOD? if you'd like to see it, I could do it man. My good friend is giving me his 7-string for my birthday man, I can't fuckin wait to bring it home. Gonna fire up some Rocket Skates, Royal and possibly You've Seen The Butcher covers.

will be waiting for that shit. bring it.

no matter how much time passes by, it always comes back...this song is that good. it is probably part of the cult to, pretty much like with melanie.

anyways, after years of not listening to it this gibberish is what i get from the live version:

...they'll
fear
gold...

dance on the park
crowned
with stars
i feel so fresh
...of all
with stars
i'll...

reign... reign

i
respect
the world
of fools
...in you

at list the...
friendly
fools

im free
im free
...free

(screams)

out
we choose
wich chance
the perfect night

an early
pause

now!
stay
...please stay
...please stay
only you.

The heavy part of that song with the screams is the definition of brutal awesomeness. The fact they never worked more on that song is a damn loss.

well, that's all there is...  :)

Still, some people are getting crazy about it !  oh, well...

There should be a version that Slacker created by mixing the crappy live recording, and the SNW demo from Bob Ezrin...
Not sure who has it and can upload it, and it doesn't really come from the Tones, but as fake as it is, it's the closest thing you'll ever get from the real deal...

There is one that the demo was restructed to match the live recording. For example, the ending of the demo was put in the beginning and the claps were added using a program

I have both versions, the one from the Bob Ezrin sessions and another that's called 2004 cut, but it is NOT the version that has those claps used in the live version. Can't remember exactly what is the origin of this version I'm talking, but has the structure of the version played live and has better sound than the demo sessions. Wasn't it released via MySpace or something like that?
EDIT:

Here  (http://adf.ly/1H1M7f)is it, dudes. Enjoy  :D

2004 cut is a remix from the ezrin and 2004 live version, I have another 2004 version that has the same structure but has vocals and is a bit shorter, should I recall I'd say it's deftones argentina's mix.

It's Teknoman's mix actually.

I've always appreciated the instrumental version of this song. I actually have it as the 13th track in my SNW folder. It puts a nice heavy end on the album. I wouldn't mind hearing the live version instrumental structure one though somehow I missed it.
