before which i went to the edge of a cliff overlooking a valley 3 hours away from my city to watch the full moon ie 30%birghter, closest in 15 years and brightest in 2009 over the weekend....where me and 3 friends had an amazing mushie trip, made a bonfire, bathed in the lake and ate village food : )

I want to tell you guys what I've been doing and this seems like an appropriate place..
Last thursday i took photographs of a muslim festival called 'muharram' and covered the 'matam' part of it.

I walked down a street for 3 hours with a procession barefoot in the sun and came home with blood on my feet arms and face that wasn't mine. It was an intense experience and something I've never done before.
I saw kids doing this which was shocking and decided to cover kids doing matam and make whoever sees this aware of whats happening around the world..

okay dude chill, this isnt a personal attack against islam, nor is it a generalization.
It is a fact though that a certain part of the shia muslims community does do matam in this manner and some just via a fast or prayers and matam is only done during muharram, which is infact a muslim mourning thing.
this practice has been going on in certain countries for aeons and there are countless photographs, accounts and a valid history of the battle of karbala to back up its base. It's unfortunate that you've had to come across this via the internet but do talk to some shia muslims online or in person to get a better perspective.
I apologise for this argument but my photographs are here for awareness/proof of the practice of matam in my country, in my city and not any kind of religious statement.
