the guy is fucking awesome. most of his movies are probably universally loved, at least around here. truly the master of the R-rated comedy.
he was a part of 5 movies in '08:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (hilarious)
Drillbit Taylor (kind of a turd honestly)
Zohan (made Sandler funny again)
Step Brothers (had some good moments)
Pineapple Express (mega sweet)
i agree, he's great.
also created two of the best shows ever; Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared.
Knocked Up is in my top 5 favorite comedies ever.
also, cant wait for his new flick:

weird, i created an Apatow thread about 6 months ago... somehow it just disappeard. hehe.
did it really? wtf
but yeah Funny People looks good. and Seth Rogen's Observe and Report looks hilarious. Apatow's got his hands in another 4 or 5 movies in 09
forgetting sarah marshall and step brothers were the only two i liked from him this year.

Those were great!
Don't forget Heavyweights.
he did Heavyweights? oh man, that shit is classic.
judd apatow rankings (directed/produced):
knocked up
pineapple express
the 40 year old virgin
anchorman
walk hard: the dewey cox story
talladega nights: the ballad of ricky bobby
the cable guy
superbad
forgetting sarah marshall
...
kicking & screaming
let me point out that all of those movies are great (except kicking & screaming). i just love some more than others.
waiting for 'step brothers' to arrive in the mail.
'walk hard' is so underrated. i loved that flick.
i would put the cable gut higher and exclude sarah marshall, i was so bored by that flick. it had its moments, but mostly fell flat for me
anchorman, the cable guy, and step brothers are good all the others are utterly mediocre. i just think its raunch comedy with a bunch of profanity, which does not register as genius to me.. but still some goood moments
Zohan was fucking hilarious. maybe it was because i was drinking, but it was so stupid I laughed my ass off.

Ehh I don't know. There are many raunchy movies with a bunch of profanity. It takes a lot to make said movie really enjoyable and even fleshed out characters.
watched Step Brothers yesterday. hilarious!
Ferrell and Reilly is a such a great team.
"I'm going to take a pillowcase and fill it full of bars of soap and beat the shit out of you!"
The liked I LOVE CRYSTAL METH t-shirt
haha yeah that was great.
also, the scenes where they sleepwalk...oh my god, i was in tears. especially when they dragged the christmas tree into the bedroom. hahaha!
here's the mall cop movie we've been waiting for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DQ_5K59S2k
damn, this wasn't what i expected. looks surprisingly dark and serious.
like "Taxi Driver" with a comedy twist, haha.
the world needs a fucking hero
awesome, cant wait.
Definitely not a Judd Apatow movie. Apatow is not the same as Rogen, FYI.
Funny People trailer!!!

Wow, this looks fantastic. A lot more serious than '40 Year Old Virgin' and 'Knocked Up'.
Can't wait.

well the good thing about the ones he actually directs is that we know they will be amazing. definitely cannot wait for it
for sure!
and dayum, Rogen lost some weight.
yeah he even looks pretty skinny for the Observe & Report movie
yeah, i read that he's losing weight for his role as the Green Hornet. haha, that's going to be awesome.
http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/03/02/judd-apatow-producing-ghostbusters-3/
QuoteProduction Weekly is reporting that Ghostbusters 3 is now officially being produced by Judd Apatow Productions. No big shock here, considering the initial rumors had most of the Apatow players cast as the film's new Ghostbusters.Last we heard, Dan Aykroyd said that Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky started working on the script this Summer and that they were aiming for a Fall 2009 production start. However, we've gotten no official word if the screenplay drafts that have been handed in thus far are worthy of a greenlight from the studio.
Hahahahahahaha!

This is a great site. It's the website of Adam Sandler's character from Funny People
Anyone seen Funny People yet? How is it?
It was another very good movie. Kind of the typical Apatow fare, but with more drama. It was a pretty long movie, though, especially for a comedy. Once again, Jonah Hill was a scene-stealer, and I also thought that it was easily the best thing Sandler's been in since maybe Punch-Drunk Love.
I recommend seeing it, but I'm still undecided as to whether Funny People is better than Knocked Up.
cool. i'm really looking forward to seeing it. gotta wait a month before it's released here though. sucks!
apatow has made some hilarious movies (Anchorman, knocked up, superbad, virgin, cable guy (didn't know he was a part of this one, def his best work if so), but some stinkers as well (Pineapple Express (I dont care what anyone else says, this movie SUCKED, it was horrible, i was smoking pot the whole time i watched it and never so much as raised a grin, hated it), walk hard wasnt very good, zohan is possibly the worst, unfunniest movies ive ever seen, about 20 min into a deleted it and considered suicide bombing the studio where it was produced, and the rest are just alright
although i do give him alot of credit for working so hard and pushing out a continuous flow of material
Zohan is terrible, but Pineapple Express and Walk Hard are fucking hilarious.
Theis is right. Plus, I would even put Cable Guy (even though it's one of the best Carrey movies) in the lower echelon of Apatow movies, honestly.
Pineapple Express is a weird one though. Must be a love it or hate it thing. Personally, I laughed my ass off and I wasn't under the influence of anything. A lot of my friends enjoyed it too, but some other people I know, and seemingly a fair amount of people on this board, absolutely hated it and thought it was way too long.
he came into my work last week. he's a cock
QuoteUniversal Pictures has signed Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann to star in the Untitled Judd Apatow Project.
The film will feature an original story with characters created by Rudd and Mann in Knocked Up.
Apatow is writing, directing and producing the June 1, 2012 release, produced by Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend. Universal's Vice President of Production, Erik Baiers, will oversee the project for the studio.
Filming is scheduled for this summer in Los Angeles.
AWESOME. Paul Rudd's character was easily my favorite in Knocked Up.
YES, that's good news. sort of on topic, today I heard that a sequel to Pineapple Express is being written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Sequel? YES! That's fantastic.
I love 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Pineapple Express and Forgetting Sarah Marshall but found some of the other Apatow-related films very disappointing. Knocked Up is overrated (there are great jokes in the film but the drama just felt very forced to me) and Funny People was an overlong, self-indulgent retread of Knocked Up. Get Him to the Greek was boring besides Puffy's performance/character (there's a sentence I thought I'd never write.) I like Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann but making a pseudo-sequel to Knocked Up just seems like Apatow going back to the same well too many times now.
Funny People, I'll give you, even though I still enjoyed it. At times, it dragged a little bit. However, Greek was easily one of the best comedies last year (granted, it was a bad year for comedies, but still).
Also, I got my dad the entire box set of the Larry Sanders Show for Christmas. He already finished it and now I'm starting to watch it. Fucking genius comedy, Rip Torn is great and Jeffrey Tambor is just absolutely hilarious as usual. I believe the show was Apatow's first writing gig, way before he did Freaks and Geeks.
I remember getting all excited as I waited for Freaks and Geeks to flop onto my mat. It was pretty good sure, but people talk about that show like it was made by Jesus. Turns out its just plain ol' Judd Apatow.
Check out Undeclared. The other show he created. Personally, I like it better than Freaks and Geeks.
Yep, I got that added to my Lovefilm list - although the review I read for it was a touch lukewarm. Seths a bit more prominent aint he? That kinda bummed me out about freaks, he was barely there at all.
Yeah, he has a lot more screentime in Undeclared.
I wouldn't call Apatow a genius. Bergman was a genius, but Apatow? He makes entertaining films and has discovered some great and interesting actors but that's the only credit you can really give him. I heard about Apatow's reaction after the whole Golden Globes/Ricky Gervais debacle and it was uncalled for. I know I should separate the artist and the art but I think he overreacted to a comedian's routine, which you think he would have understood especially after making Funny People. It was aggravating and he rode Gervais way too hard for Gervais being...well, Gervais.
I haven't heard anything about him talking about the gloden globes. Not Judd! He's my boy!
But yeah, i gotta side with Ricky Gervais with that whole award show debacle. Negative points, Apatow.
